This version is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL of any I've ever heard - this song brings back magical memories of two enchanted evenings that brought two men into my life ,several years apart, both of whom brought me happiness and joy, each in his own special way! Thank you, Jane - each of your songs has a special message for someone - KEEP ON SINGING- our hearts need you!
I can't remeber when Jane Oliver was never in my life!! I have every album she's ever recoreded!! I saw her in person at Lutherbubank Center Many, Many years years ago. BRAVA Jane you are incredible!!!
I still cannot believe she didn't reach superstar status in the states. She is better than Streisand and Ronstadt, in my opinion. Best female vocalist I have ever heard.
I disagree with whomever it was that said Richard Rogers would not approve. I think Jane's interpretation elevates this song far above its middle of the pack status as a bit maudlin overwrought broadway piece into a work of art. This interpretation is beyond perfect, as is Jane Olivor.

It's 1985, my husband and I are at a dinner party given by another couple. They start playing a Jane Oliver LP and I hear this song and I am captured by its beauty..
Now it's 26 years later and I hear this song again here. My husband and I are long since divorced as are the other couple. My life has changed so much since that night but whenever I hear Jane Oliver, I'm still knocked over by her brilliance.
She is a good-great singer but I wish she wouldn't change the melodic line too much!! If Richard Rodgers were alive today, she couldn't get away with this.
This has been a favorite of mine since it first came out. I listen to it today and remember the love I lost and cant help but mist up. Some things are too beautiful not to cry when you encounter them. This is one of those things.
This lady was drawn to my attention by a friend posting the video on FB. What a wonderful voice and an unusual musical arrangement. Extremely enjoyable.
I couldn't sleep, and I got on youtube to pass the time. Listened to this, having not heard the song in awhile, and cried my eyes out. Just what I needed, I guess. Thanks.
I remember the one and only time I heard this song on the radio, with my parents. I remember all of us tearing up and needing to know who this was. Jane Olivor has a truly amazing voice and gifted performer. Thanks for posting this seldom heard version.
I first heard her sing this song on the Johnny Carson Show and became an immedeate fan. She took what was, to me, a rather blah Broadway show tune and made it something special.

I was fortunate enough to hear Jane perform this live in the 80's in Philadelphia at the Academy of Music. I'll never forget her singing this song. Her voice filled the hall and every one was captivated.
I don't have this version - just the album version. This is very nice. Love Jane. Saw her twice in concert in the 80's and again about five years ago in Ft. Lauderdale.
Jane owns this song as far as I am concerned - - I recall playing this FIRST NIGHT Album over and over.... not a bad song on it... THIS IS OUTSTANDING - and when I hear it - it take me back to my youth. Thank-you.
Like so many others, I discovered Jane in college. An interesting fact about her was her stagefright...at her concerts she would come out and sit down on the stage and talk to the audiance to relieve her stagefright. One would think that someone like her with such a unique and wonderful voice would never have a problem singing in front of people, yet she did. Also, her Some Enchanted Evening was an arrangement that one never forgot...it still bring tears to my eyes.
My late friend Paul played me this 45 in NY back in the late 80s. I always thought it was the best arrangement and recording of this song. Thank you for sharing it!
Same here! Peggy Fleming skated to this song in the early 1980s in one of the first televised seasons of professional figure skating! Didn't find out the title or the singer until now. Thanks SO MUCH for posting!
I dare you to listen to "It's Over, Goodbye" and not tear up.
First hear her years ago when this song was being skated to on TV. Won't tell you how long it took for me to find out her name - no Internet at that time!
I purchased "Best of Jane Olivor" on itunes only a few months ago...it has this beautiful rendition...I have suggested to my daughter to use this song in her wedding......Also, please enjoy my youtube with her song "Come in From The Rain"...I would like her to even see what inspiration that wonderful song has....I called it "Homecoming"...soldiers returning home. Thank you for sharing.
actually the Best Of JO doesn't have this version (this one being a one-off 45 included in the initial Chasing Rainbows LP release, here produced by Charlie Calello)....the Best of JO has the FIRST NIGHT Jason Darrow produced verson
Both haunting and beautiful, I have seen her numerous times in person. She emits what she is singing with perfection! Would love if anyone could post: "Morning, noon, and night time". THanks
I was lucky enough to meet her one night backstage after a show in the early 1990;s Ive always been a HUGE fan of hers since the 70's when Merv Griffin discovered her...SHE was so painfully shy but so sweet and signed her first album for me...which I will always treasure.

Jane Oliver's songs came from deep within
a hungry, hurting soul with great capacity
and in need of great expression.
She is that eternal, elusive songbird
one cannot get enough of.
