I won't say it's completely reworked from the ground up like Metal Slug X was, but I'm still getting it even if I have Metal Slug 7. From what I hear Mission 5 onward is very different, and besides, the character art is the best in ages.

Plus a wider screen means the graphics can actually be viewable.

Considering that it being "Metal Slug" is already a big deal, yeah. The arcade-style gameplay is still intact, and another aspect of the game were the crazy sprites of the soldiers, the character players, and heck, even the artwork. Gameplay is important, but presentation does at go a long way as well...
