Um turning khat into freebase? The active compounds are cathinone (the main/desirable chemical) and cathine. Cathinone(s) are not stable as a freebase and therefore become inert/worthless. However as a salt form, you can certainly sniff it, and methcathinone is already smokable without a need for it as a base, just as methamphetamine is smokable as the hydrochloride salt.
Fact is, khats effects (both positive and negative) are close to those of amfetamin. You just need to chew more of it to get as much of a kick out of it as you would get from regular amfetamin.
The more you use it, the more you will need to chew to get that kick, the more alike amfetamin it gets, the worse of you'll be.

Right now the ilegal khat trade is costing use khat users higher prices, lower quality khat and legal problems. It is putting an unnecessary burden on the police and legal system, and the canadian gov is loseing out on millions of dollars that coud be made by taxing khat.

Khat is a stimulant like speed only much less powerful, caffine is also a stimulant. Caffine is ,believe it or not, a drug more harmful than khat and other drugs like shrooms,peyote and marijuana.Other common drugs are tabacco and alchol which are far more harmful than the majority of drugs. Also advils a drug deos that mean it should be illegal? of course not.

Prohibition doesn't work. Anyone can see that from the street violence associated with the drug trade, impure & adulterated drugs killing people, and the fact that it hasn't reduced use. Some khat users do use it irresponsibly, but so do alcohol users. Do we ban alcohol? No, we tried that didn't work. What does work is banning it when used irresponsibly(driving, child neglect). A total ban is unfair to responsible users.
