i never even heard The Slip before i bought it. if it has NIN on it , it's genius and emotion combined. i don't need my radio to tell me what i like , i'll always blindly buy anything Trent puts out. (btw, i don't download free music)
This song should have been titled: Lost my edge Can't help myself when you hit middle age, and have been living rich and fat for so long. I never will stop listening to Petty hate machine, Downward Spiral etc..This-This is just totally uninspired, generic musings that is running his once innovative, completely genius such aggressive style into the..ground..ground...ground.
@VanityInPerson i think the song is amazing, the dfference is that its pure industrial, some people just... doest understand the industrial but its and it will always be part of trent's music... ALWAYS
@VanityInPerson i think... that, considering all the history and music that trent has composed over the years, you can't expect perfection, nor feel dissapointment for just one song(like he cares), he makes the music that he likes for himself, not for the people to love or hate or to sell , thats why trents's music has always been so hard to understand by so many people, in my personal opinion, yeah he sng is predictable, but it haves that special trent touch... that why i love it.
NINE INCH NAILS FANS, ONLY, ANSWER PLEASE---NOT A FAN? PLEASE DON'T ANSWER: I've been trying to study Mr. Reznor's lyrics for this song, and I'm still not sure on something: Who is he singing about within the context? Does anyone know? Thank you in advance.
@touchandgod Thank you for your input good sir. And anyone else reading this response, and my former question, may answer as well. I ask my question here on YouTube because I obviously cannot talk to Mr. Reznor. So I'm just basically looking for more theories people. Thanks.
Trent is 50 times more creative and capable of making music than ordinary musicians which we all have in our playlists or in our CD racks. His career had its up and downs, its drug influences and blah blah blah.
The man is a fucking genius. One of the few. His live shows are fuckign awesome. And the bulky, hulky, muscle freak Trent latest shows are fucking dope!
Trent is of the old cut. He's an artist that works hard to write his own music top to bottom. It's refreshing to have him even though I don't always agree with him politicaly.
Im excited theres gonna be new music in 2010 for NIN. I just hope its dark.. Hes been messing with these popy synthy beats for the bast 3 albums. Over it! I want something I can torture myself too...
@marchofthepiggs well he has been producing some stuff that is fairly dark. Not as dark as The Downward Spiral but still darker than A LOT of music out these days. I don't think he can get back to the level of darkness That The Downward Spiral was. I think that type of darkness comes once or maybe twice during a persons life.
There's plans for the remastered version of "The Fragile" to celebrate its 10 yr anniversary just how "The Downward Spiral" was remastered in S.A.C.D format along with demos, b-sides, and remixes.
I personally hope he takes his time in coming out with a new album. One things for sure, he's not quitting in making music.
well..use to really like trent reznor, but he has lost it completely. this song really
is boring. Seems that trent has lost his
passion ( you can't tell me he has any passion in this song ) it just seems like he's " milking " the NIN name for every penny he can. the " Metro " look is evident of the direction he's going.. last show I went to, he seemed like he'd rather be someplace else. I am disapointed to say the least.
You are saying he has no Passion anymore are you crazy!!! have you heard Year Zero, With Teeth, and Trent never milks anything come on, hes not going for a Metro look at all, lol, Why the hell were you at the show if your disapointed in him, you think he would rather be someplace else, thats a fucking crazy thing to say, his songs are never boring, come on!!! sorry about my rant!!!!!!rolf

:( i miss the old NIN. now all his tracks are built on the ame formula. I guess downward spiral the fragile were a once off... seems to be tuck to the with teeth nu-rock formula. Trent reznor has always been my favourite artit, but its clearly time to re-think that. I mean this track is ok, but only ok, doesn't even compare to his old stuff. I consider it a big step down, but thats where he is at , so fuk it i guess. makes me feel really old hearing this nu-rock stuff : / hahaha

thats a pretty big presumption, i disagree completely. There is just some styles of music i have no interest in, and reznor is now making this style, so i have thoroughly lost interest. Discipline isn't a single. It's on The Slip. The album art you used was from Ghosts I-IV. Don't post vids about something that you know nothing about.

trents new stuff is just very plain compared to past efforts. I point out the repetive drum beat and same tempo over and over throughout the song. Plus its repetive as hell with no real variation. Why cant trent pick up on this?
he's always used drum loops and plain instruments. there is variation,by the way, you need to learn to listen. the real power is in the vocals. he even said that he used to go into the studio, fuck around until he found something that he liked, and then looped it. the focus is more on his vocals in this song, anyways, and the other stuff is varied plenty.
So true. Trent's smart enough to know you can't make the same music over and over again. People grow and evolve. Trent's an expert at perfecting transformation in his music. His time signatures are nothing short of incredible.
I dont agree and thats precisely what pisses me of. No matter what you're gonna think, Im a big fan of NIN since the perferct drug, and i think Trent's lastest is just shit, its soo boring, i listened to it once. Not only its boring but the worst part in all this, is that it sounds very similar if not exactly like the ones before. NIN fans are used of a change, and he should continue doing that.
idk man 20 years is a long time to still be cranking out what i feel to be top noch music, so even if he is "copying and pasting" music (which i dont think is the case) can you blame him?
exactly how i feel about it, i feel like his music grew up with me, from an angry teen to a calmer but more on point and realistic adult.. thank you trent for 20yrs of great music
For real, NIN gave me so much over all the years. My life would be much poorer without this sound...and Trent's able to keep his high standard over all the years. I hope, he'll never quit...
I love this song, besides Head Down and Echoplex. Honestly though, as much I like this song, I really didn't think it sounded as good live.
It's true that it's not like their old stuff ... but where's the fun if it all sounds the same? I have been a huge fan of NIN for so many years now, and I continue to be. I look foward to seeing what Trent has in store next. :)
its been proven time and time again "you cant be angry forever" i mean trent is a succsessful, financially set, stable, home owner whats dark in his life anymore?
The era of Industrial-Rock was over with the "YearZero" album and consequently Trent Reznor was trying to find a new inspiration.
I think that "Slip" is only an incident, instead "Ghosts" was a beautiful album where Trent Reznor explored new orizons, the orizons of a new Industrial music......as an Industrial-electro-ambient!
such a good song. i use to crank this at my dads hous when he wasnt home. :)

Song for Song I would have to say Downward Spiral or Fragile were better than With Teeth. He lost something when he went off drugs.

2warNINg 2 years ago
probably lack of drug stimuli ;)
molotovbliss 2 years ago 4
he's always used drum loops and plain instruments. there is variation,by the way, you need to learn to listen. the real power is in the vocals. he even said that he used to go into the studio, fuck around until he found something that he liked, and then looped it. the focus is more on his vocals in this song, anyways, and the other stuff is varied plenty.

trents old stuff was edger but his new songs speaks volumes in his progression of music.
ahan421 2 years ago
So true. Trent's smart enough to know you can't make the same music over and over again. People grow and evolve. Trent's an expert at perfecting transformation in his music. His time signatures are nothing short of incredible.
fartmagnet 2 years ago
I dont agree and thats precisely what pisses me of. No matter what you're gonna think, Im a big fan of NIN since the perferct drug, and i think Trent's lastest is just shit, its soo boring, i listened to it once. Not only its boring but the worst part in all this, is that it sounds very similar if not exactly like the ones before. NIN fans are used of a change, and he should continue doing that.
sifufenix 2 years ago 2
I felt that way once too. I was so pissed off at Trent. It took a few years, but I ended up a big fan of his new stuff.
fartmagnet 2 years ago 3
Well thats cool for you, but for me, i've lost interest in NIN, and these songs seems me like he actually copy-pasting parts from previous songs.
Correct me if i'm wrong
sifufenix 2 years ago
No need to correct you dude. You have the right to your own opinion.
I'm just saying it took me a long time to like Trent's new stuff. I'm not saying you ever have to like it.
fartmagnet 2 years ago
yea i hope you dont! lol i just though you would try to prove me wrong but alrite.
sifufenix 2 years ago
idk man 20 years is a long time to still be cranking out what i feel to be top noch music, so even if he is "copying and pasting" music (which i dont think is the case) can you blame him?
WOGNUMBER1GODFOREVER 2 years ago 2
exactly how i feel about it, i feel like his music grew up with me, from an angry teen to a calmer but more on point and realistic adult.. thank you trent for 20yrs of great music

NIN ^^

its been proven time and time again "you cant be angry forever" i mean trent is a succsessful, financially set, stable, home owner whats dark in his life anymore?

yeah nothing like the rockstar home owner
s7ightly4ltered 3 years ago
The era of Industrial-Rock was over with the "YearZero" album and consequently Trent Reznor was trying to find a new inspiration.
I think that "Slip" is only an incident, instead "Ghosts" was a beautiful album where Trent Reznor explored new orizons, the orizons of a new Industrial music......as an Industrial-electro-ambient!
diegocozzolino 3 years ago
soo..you know trent is NOW doing year zero 2...right?

it just feels like the vocals are more on top of the music instead of inside if you know what i mean
AnomHalluzinator 3 years ago 3
It's not like the old NIN songs. None of his newest ones are. But I still like him, and I respect him. He'll always be a fantasic musician.
Northernz 3 years ago 2
... boring. i love his music but this isn't the same, even if it's based on the same harmonics. it sounds like he's getting tired of his music.
AnomHalluzinator 3 years ago
you have to listen more times sing them whit the lyrics and you will understand
