  • guys u cant hate on the yankees cause there a better team then alot of teams im a huge rangers fan but if u truly love baseball then u should love watching derek jeter play and the rest of the yankees and derek jeter no matter what anybody says is the best shortstop in baseball history and he made that play because hes a smart great player id like any of u to name one shortstop who can do that

  • Only jeter would be smart enough to get there in time to make one of the greatest plays by a SS all time.

  • Freakin' Jeremy, probably the only leadoff hitter that needs a pinch runner.

  • You have to watch the whole worthless video for the play you want to see, filmed from a terrible angle, in the last second and a half of the video. eastbayfilms are a bunch of dumbasses.

  • Safe

  • oakland was loaded at the time, and they had a payroll of about 40 million. The had the yankees beat

  • @NextHW5 too bad the yanks won the series (as usual)..deal with it

  • @dubleyhew13 its a shame that new york didnt have to use brains to win. because steinbrenner was an airhead. he wanted to put cano in the arod deal

  • New York Yankees............ deal with it. I love how very few people give a dam about the A's now, they were contenders but if only one guy slid you wouldn't be complaining about if he was safe or if the A's were better than the Yankees that year(no)

  • NY

  • The A's were the better team that year but jeremy didn't slide smh. I <3 my A's!!!!

    Go A's!!!!

  • this is garbage, shitty quality video

  • like if you think red sox suck

  • derek jeter made the best play in her

  • if you watch this play from other camera angles that are out there in other videos, giambi was safe. it wasnt even close

  • @Christopherwilder47 U know how many times they showed this clip up close on espn and other sports channels man...it was a close play but jeremy was out...

  • @Christopherwilder47 Actually from many other angles Sado tags Jeremy right before his foot touches the bag.... just have to slow it down...

  • I was at this game, I remember talking to the drummers, they said Steinbrenner said if they played while their pitchers were on the mound, he would have them 86'ed. What A joke! This was A great team that just didn't make it out of the first round. Go A's!

  • I remember this! I was 21 years old, and I was in my kitchen cleaning up the table from dinner. Everyone else in my house worked nights at the time. I just happen to have the game on when this play occured, and I was like "wow".

  • He was so safe....

  • @alpharedtrot meanwhile the guy who's there watching is saying "oh he's out."

  • This was a great baseball game and heart breaking to watch. IMO this was the best A's team of the 2000's. Jeter made a hell of a play and Jeremy decided not to slide.

  • btw it is jacen giambi idk if i spelled it rght but not jeremy

  • @lilwaynemonster no its not you idiot.

  • @lilwaynemonster you are retarded, first of all you cannot spell the name jason, secondly, it was jeremy Giambi

  • 9 years later and it still gives me chest pains.

  • @badfishdive totally man... I remember 2000 ALDS, game 1, I was only 10 years old and I had just gotten my first TV in my own room. the first thing I ever watched on the TV was that game. we then went up 2-0 in the series, only to lose 3-2.

so again in 2001, ALDS, we go up 2-0 and we lose 3-2; this play encapsulated the loss...

today (on my 21st birthday actually) I sit at my desk, the once-new TV still hangs on the wall behind me, and seeing this play still pains me. :((((

  • go a's

  • can someone please explain to me how and why derek jeter was there at that time hahahaha totally out of position but man what an awesome play.

  • @getoharmony23 its derek jeter, there really is no other explanation

  • go A,s

  • Greatest play EVER.......greatest shortstop EVER period.........

  • He made the greatest play in the history of baseball, probably because of something they went over and over in practice to the point where it seemed pointless. It goes to show you what can happen when you take things seriously in baseball

  • @patDAmac17 he said in an interview he NEVER practiced it before.... he said it was instinctual, look up the interview

  • I wasted 1:17 watching this. The last two seconds were the only good part

  • Even as a Red Sox fan, this was an incredible play in my opinion. I still have no idea how Jeter had the presence of mind to get to that ball. Whether Giambi was out or not (and it is still unclear IMO), that play was amazing.

  • Easy, His head is ALWAYS in the game.

  • go mariners

  • LETS GO YANKEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!

  • I was there. Paid $100 for the tickets in the parking lot just to see the A's win to go to the series. A historic moment indeed. Zito pitched a 2 hitter that game and still lost. Thus began my hatred for the Yankees.

  • freakin SWEET!!! i would have done just about anything to be there!

  • dude i cant believe u have this on tape... this is one of the most historical plays of all time........

  • wow you would think someone who calls himself "TheBaseballCardsMan" would know that Jason and Jeremy Giambi were both on the A's at one time!! lol

  • It was Jeremy he threw out ,not Jason.

  • You are a stupid bitch. It was Jason's brother.....oh and learn to spell douche....douche

  • @eastbayfilms reply much? lol

  • @eastbayfilms Wow, fuck you or whoever filmed this. You put a whole bunch of bullshit in here and then the one play I want to watch basically gets cut off at the end. Fuck you faggot. Dislike.

  • @eastbayfilms I thought jeremy was singed the next year

  • @TheBaseballCardsMan you made yourself look like an ass, haaaa!

  • HE WAS OUT.

  • Comment removed

  • hahaha, have you ever SEEN analysis of this play on SportsCenter?? No, the throw was not on line...at all...idiot

  • i didn't need to see anything on espn i was there sitting in the 6th row and i saw it just fine there was nothing wrong with the trow jeter didn't need to come over from short and then there would have been no argument if he was safe or out. so now who is the idiot.

  • that's why the yanks are still playing and the dirty sox aren't. and giambi was out! so stop hating and crying like a lil bitch.

  • lmao ,just watch yankees play tonight lol..real champs

  • Typical sox fan, not having a clue of what he's talking about.

  • @sngfx fuck you im a sox fan and i know what the fuck he was talking about. so stfu

  • fuck amazing jeter came out of nowere

  • And, he was indeed safe. Like the folks before me, go watch it in slowmo at truveo...great call, great play.

  • he was out, posada tagged him before he touched home

  • yea, i meant out, my bad

  • @uknowwho97 dodgers bitch

  • hahaha god was he so safe..its not even close..posadas glove is behind the plate so therefore he steps on homeplate and runs into the glove..HE'S SAFE you yankee idiots!

  • Guess what, it doesn't matter what you think, only matter what the umpire thinks, and he said he was out. Yogi Berra thought that he tagged Jackie Robinson at home plate too, but the record books beg to differ. Get over it.

  • Tagged the back of his leg. I am pretty sure the umpire that is 10 inches behind got it right.

  • how can he tag the back of his leg when his glove is on the far side of the plate...he steps on the bag then he tags him..hes safe and any fan other then the yankees will say the same thing

  • First off, I am more of an Oakland fan than I am of a Yankee fan, so try again.

Second off, when he pulls his arm around in a semi circle towards J.G's back which is when he tags him in the calf. 90% of the reason he is out is because he didn't slide. Go to "watch?v=i-gunrn3nj0" and look at 3:07. In that video is where you can clearly (sort of.) Otherwise go on mlb(.)com and find the video on there.

  • i didn't even see Jeter from this angle, he just popped out of nowhere. One of the greatest fielding plays I ever saw, Phenomenal :D

  • Watch another video of this play on truveodotcom by searching for 'jeter's amazing flip'.

Watch it very closely on slow mo, and you'll see that Posada's glove grazed Giambi's leg just as Giambi's foot is touching home plate. Posada had to sweep across with his glove to make the tag, and that allowed Giambi's leg to hit the plate in the nick of time.

The ump got the call wrong, but it's almost impossible to make an accurate judgement in real time.

    It was a very close

  • Seen is super slow mo, the ump got it right! That may have been the most amazing thing about the play.

  • LOL, Giambi was out.

  • THIS FOOTAGE IS GOLD!

  • Another perspective on the historic play. Shows at least how stupid the Giambis are

  • HAHAHA!!! Giambi is sooooooo stupid! If he would have slid he might of had a chance at getting the point.

  • one of best plays i've ever seen. Jeter was where he should have been.. but the flip was outstanding. check out my Vblog

  • NEVER EVER GET RID OF THIS VIDEO

  • Hey morskitty if Jeter dint cut that ball off it wouldn't be in time. And I have a flip book of 2 great Jeter moments and this was one of them. I looked at the picture that showed Posada tagging Giambi and his foot was inches off the plate so the ump made the right call!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hernandez is stunned as he thinks about the play, over and over again. "If Jeter doesn't catch the ball, the ball hits me -- that's how far off the mark it was," Hernandez says.

That by the way, is from Oakland's hitter in the on-deck circle. But I'm sure he was probably all part of the conspiracy to make Jeter look better than he is,

  • if you have any brains you would have noticed that jeter cought the ball in foul territory, therefore the throw was off line. also, when the ball would have hit the grass it would have slowed down, and the ball wouldnt have gotten there in time.

  • Are you an A's or a Red Sox fan? I feel so sorry for you either way. Sorry that the Yankees are better than any team you root for. Before you scream at me, please remember that the Yankees are tied for the best record in baseball.

  • ..no...just shut up...the throw was up the first base line...and he tagged him on the shin...and Derek is a hero because of his fantastic play and leadership qualities.

  • eye witness account.

  • it was jason not jeremy

  • no it was jeremy because he is faster than jason but where did u hear that it was jason

  • dang, good seats

  • slide jeremy slide!... idk that was a close play ... dam jeter

  • All i know is Derek Jeter gunned his shit to get that ball. lol He flew from his position and made a historical play.

  • bizzles you are completely wrong...he was out, the tag hit his leg. the best play i have ever seen. won that game 1-0. if that play would not have happened, who knows what the score could of been. people forget the yankees were down 2 games to none as well

  • he was safe, ive seen the view, posada just missed him, but since its the yankees and giambi is a fucking idiot and didnt slide, hes out

  • well, your absolutely wrong... because he was out. posada tagged the back of his leg, and the replays have proven that in the past 8 years.

  • one of, if not the best play i have ever witnessed on a baseball diamond

  • safe!

  • no he got the ankle.

  • this play has been debated a lot, andmost people believe that Jeremy Giambi was actually safe.

  • well i have seen two different slow-mo replays where u can see posada got his ankle. speaking of the yankees and stupid calls, in bottom of the ninth just now yanks coulda won wit men on 1st and 2nd, throw to first wasnt on time but ump blew it. which is why now theyre gonna lose in te tenth:)

  • no matter what any skeptics say if you are an umpire and you see that happen. you are gunna call the guy out every time if its that close.

  • Listen up haters -- No baserunner should ever have to slide on this play because no defense player should pull off something so amazing. Yankees were down 2 games to 0 in a best of 5 series and won this game 1-0. One run made all the difference and so did this play. The ball was off line and moving slow, if Jeter doesn't grab it and toss, Yankees may lose that game. They went on to play in one of the greatest WS of all time (Bush's pitch, 2 walk-off HRs, Schilling & Johnson, 7 game series).

  • Wow you guys are unbelievable! The call could have went either way as it happened but if Giambi executes one of the basic fundamentals of base running, the SLIDE, he clearly would have been safe. If you watch the replay even the A's player is motioning for him to slide. That is something that they teach you in little league for Christ's sake! Anything close you SLIDE, especially in major league post season baseball! I'm not a hater but I call it as I see it.

  • What I remember most was Thom Brennamen's call...

"DEREK JETER. WITH ONE OF THE MOST UNBELIEVABLE PLAYS BY A SHORTSTOP, YOU WILL EVER SEE!"

  • THANK YOU

  • HE GOT LUCKY, if jerremy slid he wouldn't have had a chance

weakest play in baseball no doubt

  • why u mad bro?

  • and the A's have been shit ever since.

  • @yankeefanincalgary if making the playoffs 4 out of next 5 years is shit , then yeah they were shit ever since

  • @ilikepieinmyshoe ALCS appearence in 06?

  • You were at the "Flip" game!!!!!

Man that is the shit. For the rest of your life you can say "I saw the greatest play a SS has or will ever make in person". Consider that it was in the Playoffs, and that makes it even better.

  • are you serious? He intercepted a throw that was completely on target with the catcher...and then flipped it home, and is considered a hero for it.

In truth, he nearly cost them a run...and is a fucking moron for what he did.

  • Obviously, you don't remember the game. The ball would not have made it to Posada in time had Jeter not made the play.

All the baseball experts see it that way, and you are the only person I have ever heard of who doesn't.

Now, if you want to say a Giambi slide would've made it irrelevant, I'll listen, but saying Jeter is a "fucking moron" for making that play is obviously the statement of a hater.

  • great play buy calling it the best play a SS has ever made is absolutely ridiculous.

  • Tell me a better one in a bigger situation.

The Yankees were down 2-0 in a best of 5. They lose this game, they would've been eliminated.

  • THANK YOU!!!

  • You're an absolute idiot for that statement.. I remember that game vividly and the throw wasn't even CLOSE to being inline with the pitcher.. probably one of the most phenomenal plays in baseball history.. you're a schmuck.

  • Absolutely true sooner! The right field foul pole camera shot confirmed the fact the throw was accurate and only because of the "Amazing" Jeter did the play become close.

  • wrong venture. if giambi slid it would have been close and possibly safe, but jeter's uncanny sense of awaremess, timing and athleticism on the ballfield would still have been remarkable. can't you jeter haters be plain old fans of the game for once. jees.

  • if if if... if derek jeter got hurt the play wouldnt of happened if someon hit a homerun the inning before they would of one. Theres no if.

  • This was more of a base-running blunder than a great play by Jeter. If Giambi slid(if you watch the end of the replay, you can see that the A's player is telling him to do) Jeter would have tagged air. Most players of today do not know how to slide properly.

  • You're a retard. So this great moment in baseball is remembered for a base running blunder? Get real!

  • either way its a great play, regardless of a slide,to have the instinct like that to run across the infield while that ball was in the air is jus great itself,it wouldnt have gotten the recognition that it does if giambi slid but that shouldn't discredit jeter for what he did,and why would jeter be tagging air?is he grabbing the ball and running to home to get giambi?no,that would be posada at home plate making the tag

  • This is not the time for us to give up. We can absolutely win another World Series this year. The media wolfpack that engaging in A-Rod's character assassination would disagree, but with the starting pitching we have now, it's entirely conceivable.

What they need to do is just starting working together, because with the talent we've assembled, and the pitching we now have, everybody else in the majors is trying to come up with off-the-field reasons to discount us.

    We're for real this year.

  • Play of the century

  • dude, why even bother posting this vid if you friggen' missed the biggest play of the game?!?!

  • Moose is picthing in that game!

  • i reamber that play by derek jeter that was the best play in playoff history by a shortstop

  • i thought it was jason giambi

  • go die

  • Awesome video. I would have liked for it to keep going a little longer afterwards but thats just nitpicking.

  • There is a video of that play on Truveodotcom. I'm not representing that site so don't mark me spam; it's just an amazing play and people should watch it. Type in is "Jeter's amazing flip."

  • I dont understand what happened.

  • ur blind dude

  • Yankee baseball!

  • lol, hey did you hear about that collector with those 1923 ny yankee stadium documents?

  • no what about it?

  • derek jeter is the best! you will never see a play like that again.

  • i have been looking for this play forever..it has to be one of the best i have ever seen...so amazing

  • Definitely the greatest play in my time...

  • Me too!! Why I came on here!

  • giambi is a loser

  • Derek Jeter is the man, Go Yankees!

  • fucking derek jeter with the most amazing shit ever. he had no reason to be playing there but he ran over just in time.

  • Derek Jeter Is The Best

  • Is that McAfee ?

There's a heck of a lot of people there!

  • well it was the playoffs and prob more than half were yankees

  • how is it overrated it was good play first time it prolly ever happened

  • this ruined jeromy's career!

  • ur mom is the most overrated play ever

  • Everyone knowws the Yanks are fucked now. The Sox now own them EVERY YEAR. Also, I think it's clear that the Yankees have the most fair-weather fans in the world of sports (why would they turn against Joe Torre, whom they owe everything to). Sox fans aren't fair-weather at all (obviously). You guys like being in third place??

  • I forgot to say that IS an amazing play, but why would Giambi not slide? I think Jeter is way mored valuable than A-Fraud (who used roids like everyone else and who can't do ANYTHING in the clutch).

  • What are you TALKING about.

  • whooptie fucking do, jeremy giambi is amoron and should have slid.

  • Why, you tried to hit on him and he turned you down??

  • How do you think he is overrated?

  • why did he run way over there but amazing play

  • greates play ever right there

    GO YANKEES

  • that is base baseball right there. i was never a yankee fan but that kind of heads up thinking is why jeter is the best all around player in baseball. fuck bonds and his *homeruns. people will talk about what kind of gamer jeter was for a long time. kinda like pete rose. (except the betting). But he's the kind of player kids should look up to.

  • Well I wouldn't say the best in the world, but this was one of the most incredible plays I've ever seen, and I'm a major fan of just about every sport. The amazing thing is that Jeter was quoted as saying "That's where I'm supposed to be," and in that specific situation, with 2 outs, a 1 run game, and only one runner on at the time that IS where the shortstop is supposed to be. Incredible.

  • I was there with my dad a long time lifetime NYY and me 20+yrs a die hard A's. I went to both game 5s just to watch the yanks party in our park.

  • i hate noobs like u fags

  • GOT EM JETER YEEEEYA

  • I really wish the As had won a title. It would have done well to get rid of some of the shitty, shitty journalism we see today. Of course, had they won, we wouldn't have Fire Joe Morgan, so who knows.

  • THE FLIP!

  • pretty good camera for 2001, but wow- what an odd play at the end!

  • These A's teams were fantastic, this coming from a Yankee fan. 2002 was probably their best shot. They had way better starting pitching than the Angels, A's probably win a seven game series. Their ALDS loss to the Twins is still baffling, though Ken Macha's ridiculous decision to start Cy Young winner Barry Zito once in the series certainly contributed. Real shame the Tejada/Chavez group never got a ring. That door has closed for good.

This was a classic game. Moose-Zito.
