@b112895 Basically you NEED to know Objective-C, and if you have NO prior programming knowledge, then I start you off with the C tutorials. thenewboston more or less combines C into his first few Objective-C tutorials, so technically he is just teaching you C in the beginning, but whomever you want to learn from is up to you. I do have Cocoa tutorials on my channel (Mac OS), not many people do. It's a brand new series that I just started so if you want to see those, feel free to look at those
@b112895 ...The Cocoa tutorials are light at first, but they do expect you to know basic Objective-C principals, so you may get lost later on if you don't know the basics. I arranged my tutorials to go from C->Objective-C->Cocoa, but you don't have to watch every C tutorial to move on. Once you get the basic things like if, while, for, etc., you can attempt to move on.
@AppleProgramming Holy Mother! you are so frikin FAST! literally instantly after i type it bam new inbox. What great service, is there anywhere i can recommend you to for awesome Sexy service?
@PrototypeAndroid C is more of what other languages are based off of (C++, C#, Objective-C). Objective-C is the language Apple uses for all of their products. So later on, if you learn Objective-C you can program Mac, iPhone and iPad apps. It also will give you a better understanding of programming in general and you can transfer that knowledge to other languages as well.
hey, excellent vid! just had a question..i tried compiling the program without the "return 0" statement...and there were no errors. just wondering if the return statement is necessary at all, cuz the compiler did not give any errors, and also the program ran with the same output..
@apratheek The return is not required for the main function. Xcode automatically presumes it ends with a 0. Later you will learn more on the return and why it is necessary in some other cases.
Am so grateful that there is a good tutorial for this. Actually wanted to raise some money by making my own iPhone app but that led me to learning Objective C which then somehow led me to buy snow leopard just to do it and then learning C cos I figured that C would be a great stepping stone... LOL
Thumbs up to the whole explanation of every single bit line of code...
@Shazcapade I'm in a similar boat. I want to get developing fo iPhone, but that in turn led me to upgrade to Snow Leopard, download XCode, and now, learning C and Obj-C.... What a journey!
@djcondra Thanks, if there is something you would like to suggest, feel free to leave your suggestion on my channel page, you can submit anything you would like there.
Great! But a quick question, will this programming only be useful in Mac OSX programming? I'm looking for iPhone programming tutorials.. Is this the exact same language?
@aliasgr92 I had another person ask the exact same question. The language for iPhone is Objective-C, I am planning on teaching that in the near future however I find it much more useful to understand C and then transfer to Objective-C. Obj-C just has more complicated things and I find it much easier to understand the basics before moving on to more complex languages. If people really want them though, I can start on them soon.
This is really awesome, I 'm trying to read this book called "The Absolute Beginners guide to C" for my placement exam but this is far more helpful, 1 because I have a Mac and 2 because I'm a visual learner. Clear and Straightforward. Thanks!!
@FrankAguilarTV Thanks so much, I will be posting some more videos as time goes on. I currently have the worst internet ever so I won't have a new video at least until Sunday. Glad you enjoy the videos though and glad I can help you with your exams.
Ah, just what i am looking for. I am learning "C" on windows.
For graphic programming i will use the WinAPI.
What could i use on the Mac?
Especially, since xcode4, cocoa & other stuff is being discontinued.
Thanks...vmars316

@vmars316 No idea what you mean by Xcode 4 and Cocoa being discontinued, if anything it's the very opposite.

How can i detect an enter? lets say
printf Name or enter to skip = /*(presses enter)*/;
scanf %s name/* (name is a string)*/;
if (name == enter) {}
zungaloca 1 month ago
@zungaloca you can use fgets to see if the return key is all that was pressed. Just watch the fgets tutorial and you should get it from there.
