@jamesclaveria Yes, if you ONLY destroy the ship in the first stage, and NOTHING else (2800 points should be your total if I remember correctly) making sure it doesn't fall on an enemy and destroy it (any explosion can kill anybody. Enemies can kill eachother) you will have every single weapon the next stage, including shield, jetpack, and armor.
This is a great game, but hard as hell. The sequel to this, Assault Suit Leynos 2, is actually the reason I bought a Sega Saturn recently. It's got graphics like Cybernator (Valken) but a weapons and regeneration system very much like the original. I don't find it nearly as hard, though.
I recorded myself playing this game on VHS, when I was 16. It is fun to watch. My cousin and sister went crazy when I beat it! Like I won the Super Bowl. Very difficult game. It was cool having some other characters help..even sad when they died, a la ROBOTECH... great game...with a rewarding ending of graphics, music and cut scenes...some games lack that today...
One of the most memorable games from my childhood. One of the things I really enjoyed about it was the fact that you had allies fighting with you (even if they're not very helpful). It really made you feel like you were part of a war rather than just a loan super fighter/mech like in many other titles. (and has since been adapted to more recent franchise like COD)
Please make sure you try out Cybernator aka Assault Suits Valken (search for my videos of them) for the Super Nintendo. It's the sequel of sorts, developed by the same team. =)
The only fatal flaw in the design is the point system where to complete certain levels, you have to have done really well in the previous level. This means that if you didn't get a certain amount of points before, the game becomes impossible.
God now this is a jem! I had this game back in the day. Sadly i let a friend borrow it and i never saw it again :( this game is worth serching for. When i first played it, i thought it was a macross game.
OMG i LOved this game so much!! strangely as a kid i was able to beat this game. But sometimes i couldn't because the enemy's in the game would never be the same or whatever. anyone ever notice that?
Man this one of the 1st games I played at my cousin's house back in 89 when they just bought the genesis. Classic game awesome soundtracks which by the way I finally downloaded the other day and is the original track no remix or anything. RIP 16-bit you and SNES definatley made gaming so much fun growing up
hey how did you get a clear picture of recording it? If you have this game you must have Fatal Rewind. If you dont know what is is, google it. Its a hard game, if you want a challenge play that one.
cool i found what i was looking for. I made the charater you play out of bionicals because i loved this game soo much.
I have beaten this game in hyper mode... It isn't as hard as you think. Especially the last level. You just have to get into the mothership then you can rest.
Has anyone beaten this game on Hyper mode? Without all weapons or invinciblity? I did it... but only with save states. The second stage is INSANE on hyper mode.
I have beaten it on hyper mode a few times (w/out cheating). I totally agree with you that level 2 is the hardest at this difficulty. In particular, things get ugly quickly right after Rance destroys your shuttle ally and is driven away. The other levels after that really aren't *that* hard.
Yes that makes you invincible. There is also another trick. If you play the first level and ONLY destroy the end ship, make sure it dosen't explode on any enemy guys, because explosions from an enemy can destroy them too.(so advanced for it's day) When you finish the level, you will have 2800 points and when you pick your items for level 2, you will have access to ALL weapons and upgrades! :D
I was at a Videogame Exchange many years ago and I was looking at a bargain bin of Genesis videogames and saw this game sitting there. No box no manual just a simple cartridge with a white label and the Target Earth logo. Cost me $5. God damn was I suprised to find this awesome game. I would play it on my Genesis but emulator makes it so easy. Hope they put it on Wii. Good memories
Yo! This was one of my first games for the Genesis. I was bargain shopping games for the Genesis. I bought this game in 1990 around Christmas for $19.95 at Toys"R"Us. The story line was cool and the ending was worth it. Infact, the ending and the music with it were perfect! I know it may take a while, but could you place the full ending on your channel for nostalgia and fans of "Target Earth" sake.
oh, I so loved this game. I had finally beat the game just before the cheat became public. I was so proud of that. This game was dogged in magazines for how impossibly hard it was. I just loved it so much that I kept at it. Fuck I would play this right now if I still had it.
Correct on the start button cheat thing. Wish I found out about it earlier. It took me a while to beat it. Great BGM, nice mech designs, and good story. Still play it once in a while.
This game gave me a sense of awe and wonder more than any other game I have ever played. I love this game. My all-time favorite. More than 15 years later, and I am still playing it.
Man same to me !!! It was one of my first genesis game I ve played...I love mechs, and tham, I love all the assault suits avalaible...this one, I ve bought 2 years after I ve got my Sega Mega Drive... it was on a trip to USA..to disney, in a store, alone in a box of old things...it was like a dream to me !!!
This game was not that hard. All you have to do is be patient and retreat whenever you are low on health. Since you regenerate health, if you are patient and careful enough, you will never die.
I can not agree with this more . This game has the reputation for being one of the hardest games ever made, although that reputation is a bit undeserved, (for the reasons the tehkao mentioned) unless played in hyper mode.
I can beat the game without dying even once and that is because of the crazy regenerating abilities of your Assault Suit.
Enemy bullets also move relatively slow in this game and are easy to dodge, especially when you can fly.
Ah Game Genie, how I miss thee.

Thumbs up if you remember that hitting start on the 2nd controller let a 2nd person play as one of the green mechs.

Exactly!
Also, Cybernator was originally called "Assaulit Suits VALKEN" in Japan, as NCS made that game too.
