You know that does make sense, but I see it more as a trust your base instincts, there there for a reason.

The Sandman makes noise but the boy ignores it and keeps trying to sleep,being awake is what keeps the sandman at bay thus why he makes noise, only the foolish ignore their inate senses and thus lose them.
