The CIRCULAR TEMPLE they show as "THE THEMPLE OF VESTA" (a common mistake, repeated over and over, until today) WAS IN FACT A TEMPLE DEIDICATED TO "HERKULES" (Ercole).

HEY, VIRGINIA "UNIVERSITY" STUDENTS - YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT! :D
I didn't mean that. I just meant that if You put so much effort into making a digital plan of ancient Rome, you at least call with its proper name, the ONLY building that survived to us almost entirely throughout the ages... :D
If you are a truth seeker, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click on the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says. Everyone needs to see this. The Present will turn this world right-side up if it reaches enough people. You will see what I mean when you read the first page.
@SunlandCore How the fuck can the Italians rebuild the city of ancient Rome when the city of modern Rome is built on top of it? Do you seriously want them to knock down all the buildings in the Vatican to accomplish such a goal?
Should they knock down all the buildings in Mexico City to rebuild Tenochtitlan?
Why the fuck do Americans always need to say "Rome, Italy" or "London, England"?
What other "ancient Rome" could they possibly think the viewer might confuse the Eternal City with - the ancient township of Rome (pop. 2,600) to be found in Adams County, Wisconsin perhaps?
@PresidentZod There must be an Athens OH :) or even lamer. Remember also, according to Mormons (most of the people of Utah or something), the Hebrew people had moved to America way before this Rome was built ;).
@PresidentZod Have you heard some of the crazy names we have for our cities here? I know a family in Paris, Arkansas for goodness sake! Besides calling it Rome, Italy is the correct name of it! lol
@shannon111111 No - the actual correct name is Rome, Lazio Region, Central Italy, Republic of Italy, The European Union, Northern Hemisphere, Planet Earth, The Solar System, Orion Arm, Milky Way Galaxy, Local Group, The Virgo Cluster, The Virgo Supercluster, The Known Universe.
I've just returned from Rome and while i was there i had the same feeling, what if the city would still look like it did 1000..years ago, at least this gives us an insight!
@gergely007 Sadly, most ancient buildings do not simply disappear of their own accord- people actually cart away the marble and use it for other things, like bridges.
The Ancient Rome, and European history in general is so magnificent. I mean Ancient Greece, philosophers, Alexander the Great, Pompeii, latin... etc. Everything is unbelievable interesting.
I click on ancient Rome 3d in google earth, and little yellow icons pop up all over Rome. And there is no layer with roman buildings, just churches and ruins. Google just ripped me off. Again.
@stoltobot Search "Common Era" on Wikipedia, which is what "CE" stands for in this context. It's basically a neutral version of "AD" that removes references to Christianity. Something I'd expect Google to use. Maybe they just haven't heard of it yet.
I have to say, Google Earth really is an awesome, innovative tool. You can see all sorts of awesome things from the comfort of your own home with this nifty little tool.
Interesting sidenote- Roman and Greek marble statues were not just white, they were painted but as time passed the paint wore off and the statues were left as white marble

Well, Romans would have had too subdue all barbarians (which was one of the reasons it fell; because of barbarian invasions). Also, if they did, they would probably have colonized the Americas. And if it had never fallen there probably wouldn't be Protestants.
@chairde considering that Rome either destroyed or turned everyone they conquered into slaves "included allies" and on the other hand treated its own citizens with the upmost respect.I for one am happy Rome does not exist today you just have no idea on how efficient and brutal they actually were. There propaganda was simple. If you were not a Roman you were a savage. :D
@loyolaf All empires are brutal. The Romans did have Pax Romana which lasted several hundred years of no war. Social changes would have to been made just like they were without the Roman Empire. The difference is the technology and we would be hundreds of years ahead of where we are now. There would have been no "dark ages" and trade, commerce, education and culture would have flourished during that time. That is my point of view.
@MessiahComing Hadrian did crush the revolt of a false messiah and renamed the area but still Israel wasn't taken off into slavery at that time. It wasn't the Romans who destroyed Israel and removed the people into slavery. They were much too pragmatic for that type of thing. The Romans were into control as all empires are and wanted the area to be productive for the Roman Empire. The Romans were very pragmatic and controlling.
@chairde Israel was renamed Syria-Palistinae. Eventually, it was shortened to Palestine. Therefore, it would not be Israel, and after the renaming, it stayed that way for a long time.
@MessiahComing Isn't it true that the ten tribes were taken off into slavery and that was the end of ancient Israel until very recent history. Correct me if I'm wrong but the tribes did live in the Holy Land under the entire Roman Empire's rule in that area. It was not the Romans that took the ten tribes out of the Holy land.
@MessiahComing "The Byzantine emperor Heraclius recaptured Jerusalem in 628–629 CE, and was responsible for the massacre and expulsion of the Jews.[98][99" Although the Byzantine empire was related to the Roman empire it was split off once the Romans weakened. My contention in the beginning was wouldn't it be interesting if the Roman Empire remained strong. Thereby the rise of the eastern empire would not have happened.
@chairde Rome had become so powerful that administration was almost impossible. They were by far the largest nation on earth, and keeping control of all it's people was tough, as well as giving orders, due to the distances required for traveling, so a split was acctually voted on, and approved by the senate in Rome, as well as the Emperor to split the empire for administrative purposes, making governing more manageable. Had the split not happened, the empire would have collapsed much sooner.
@chairde Well, the funny thing about the Eastern Empire was that the first Pro-Consul acctually ruled from Milan. I believe it was Diocletian and Maximian who ruled at that times as co-emperors, but after their abdication, Constantine I moved his capital to Byzantium, replaced the succession system with hereditary rule, and took over Rome. But originaly, the split wasn't through some sort of war. It was a mutual agreement.
@MessiahComing Well that is interesting. Rome and even the Eastern Empire had some qualities that were both awesome and fearsome even to today's standards. I would think that if Rome had continued on with its impressive engineering and organizational skills the world would be a much better place today. I also think that the fearsome behaviors, slavery and war, would diminish like they did after the fall of the Empire up to today. I still stand in admiration of Pax Romana which lasted so long.
@chairde Well just think. If Rome had the technology we have today, they wouldn't have had to split the empire. Then again, they probably would have had a lot more rebellions.

For lovers of Rome who've spent years learning about and appreciating the city, and who've dwelt in Rome as it exists presently, this GE Ancient Rome is a major gap-filler, visually speaking. I'm gettin' it!

Wtf. Rome 2.0 is not out but complete. It's shaded, has shadows, effects, just like Crysis, but we STILL HAVE 1.0? WTF.

Ammazza che forza!
For lovers of Rome who've spent years learning about and appreciating the city, and who've dwelt in Rome as it exists presently, this GE Ancient Rome is a major gap-filler, visually speaking. I'm gettin' it!
Wow, what a perspective! E guarda il Circo Massimo tutto sopra la terra che si puo' entrare dentro! Mi fa sorridere da matti!
