This could see a very good use in heads-up displays for aircraft. Current HUD technologies require the use of a projector which takes up considerable overhead space in the cockpit. This new technology can provide far more compact HUD systems, and make them much easier to read.
I want's this everywhere, my clothe, my windows, my girl.. I don't want to where blue today just switch to green. Bad weather switch on some great weather. Your girl is pissed, switch her to happy :D
also this technology OLED has been out for over +5 years its just most people haven't mass produce it. plus it saves around +40% more power then a conventional LED screen, since a regular LED screen needs a back light, OLED doesn't need a back light.
@edeikuliu : i think the technology still need some time. there are 2 major problem now with oled. first is the life span of the screen. second problem is the energy consumption. When you are playing movie or game with darker ambiance, it can save around 40% more energy. But when the screen is mostly bright color, like this youtube page or a document you try to type, it will consume up to 3 times more energy than a lcd screen.
(unless the new standard will be white letters on black page...)
@MrGrandDragon : power consumption will lead to marketing issues because it feels awkward to see a new portable device with like 1/2 or 1/3 of battery duration than the previous generation device, no?
Life span is still a big issue because OLED material for different color degrade at different speed. Blue is 60000hours, but green has 3x longer life span. This will make your OLED screen have color balancing problem.
Companies rather do this right than rush it out and flop.Thats y it takes time.
@cytheh You make a valid point, but it will be a non-issue if used in mobile devices where the turn around is between 16 months and 24 months. I have worked as a Tech for Sprint for 10 years and know that customers won't keep a phone longer than 24 months. Most are won't even last a year before filing an insurance claim on a device or buying a new one. What are your thoughts?
@LEDLightForHomes i had my lg flip phone for 4 years.i liked it,and i didnt buy another one until my screen broke. just because the herd moos doesnt mean we all do man. non-mooer out
@banda5k1 I think were in the future, technology is catching up fast with the concept technology in sci-fi films, when we get proper holograms, we'll be their.

Life span is no longer a major problem, it has already been addressed by a few company's. The power consumption isn't a problem either.

Yep. Samsung demonstrated two years ago an OLED display with a MTBF of 60,000 hours.
