Anyone who has seen a 1980's family sitcom should know what that means. That's what this episode feels like, it's when you get to see a side to someone you don't often get to see. It's pretty cute though.
THE Lulabye that retaxies was singing was so beautiful, I don't really think Lord Retaxies is bad or evil just greedy, selfish, spoiled and wrong, but he does learn how to be good, in his own way;)
Yes, I agree. Rataxes has a good heart and certainly isn't evil or bad...but he is indeed self-centered and wrong in his actions many times. I tend to think that Rataxes wasn't so self-centered and such before he became king (based on some things Lady Rataxes has said in earlier episodes). Regardless, underneath it all, he really is a big ol' softie, isn't he? ;)
And Rataxes does have a pretty good singing voice too, doesn't he? He's just full of surprises.
8 minutes into An Elephant's Best Friend, Lady Rataxes talks about how the man she married years ago (Rataxes) wouldn't have come back without searching high and low for Reggie the warthog (and finding him). She said it like they'd been married many years, so I just assumed that they married before he was king (just a feeling I get). Either way, it sounds like he was less self-centered at the start of their marriage and I thought corruption by power could explain the change.
Interesting. I'd never thought about it that deeply, but I do remember her saying that and him feeling really guilty. But since I'd always felt like he'd sort of inherited his position or whatever, so I never thought about them being married before he was king.
I likes the way you think, sailorlum. That's really interesting.
Thanks! :) Here's some more food for thought... Based on what Basil said in The Lead Blimp (that Rataxes "rose to lofty heights through twists of fate, blind circumstance, and sheer dumb luck") I think that he wasn't originally next in line for the throne (maybe he had two or more people ahead of him) but somehow managed to inherit it, anyway. Maybe the previous king was his uncle or cousin, or something. That's my theory, anyway. (cont. in next post)
Even if he was next in line, he probably spent some time as a prince, even as an adult, and could have married young. My money's on married young, as a relative of the king. ;)
well how many episodes are there actually ? I think i saw all of them :'(

And I have to say also - this episode nearly made me cry. I know it's a cartoon, but Rataxes seems like such a great dad.
And how happy they were when THEIR baby came home. <3

What did Lady Rataxes say in earlier episodes? Or, which episodes did she say them in so my lazy butt can look them up itself?
