i started going to the college at winterhold at level 2 and haven't learned shouts yet, so when the thugs told me " we're going to teach you a lesson " i was on the roof of the college and jumped off into a river..............and survived

Easy way to beat hired thugs:

1. In Riverwood, buy the "Fury" spell tome

2. As soon as the thugs approach you, cast Fury on them and watch them fight

3. Collect the loot

@jonno050 It's not a quest. You just steal from certain merchants...or maybe kill one of their loved ones...and eventually some hired thugs come to "teach you a lesson". First time they came after me, I happened to be in the courtyard of the mage's college when everyone was outside...Suffice it to say, it did not end well for the thugs.

When I first started playing, I had some thugs after me. So if a waited in a city with no walls, they'd always be there within 10 - 15 hours. Now I'm all paranoid, because, I couldn't beat them at my old level, and I'm still worried. UGH. XD
