Now, *yes* there are some Christians who think that if they only believe in Jesus, then they can do anything they want.
However, the Bible talks about believers yielding "the fruit of the spirit" - being love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and gentleness - and if a person is a "bad tree" they're thrown into the fire.
I agree that many people's theology is not that simple, but this guys is. I think it's a function of his brain power.
Jesus was not actually that nice of a guy. He likened God to a King who will take everything you own and kill those that will not obey him. He trashed a church - something our society would certainly frown upon and probably charge you for. Jesus said you must hate your family in order to follow him and sell everything you own - but no one does these things. Etc.

Now, *yes* there are some Christians who think that if they only believe in Jesus, then they can do anything they want.
However, the Bible talks about believers yielding "the fruit of the spirit" - being love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and gentleness - and if a person is a "bad tree" they're thrown into the fire.

I agree that many people's theology is not that simple, but this guys is. I think it's a function of his brain power.
Jesus was not actually that nice of a guy. He likened God to a King who will take everything you own and kill those that will not obey him. He trashed a church - something our society would certainly frown upon and probably charge you for. Jesus said you must hate your family in order to follow him and sell everything you own - but no one does these things. Etc.

And I realize that. This guy's theology is quite simplistic. I'm not sure to what degree he'd represent the Christian population. About Jesus saying you must hate your family, from what I've heard in Christian circles, he's merely differentiating between the degree one should love Jesus, and love his family - that in comparison to how much you love Jesus, it'd be like hating your family...this is where those claiming "interpretation" get quite slippery.

um, gifts are earned! you have to earn love, respect, sympathy, trust to get it. And after a recent conversation with a theist, he said that our morals (killing is bad, etc) are irrelevant to God. God says whats right, and if he says killing is okay, then it is. So I asked him if God told him to kill a child, would he? He said yes...THEN said that its okay because God said so, I asked I killed him bc god told me to would that be ok, and he said no because killing is wrong. I walked away dizzy.

When I had those JWs come over to my house, I was almost exactly like that guy in the house just nodding and "hmming". I was more agnostic back then.
If they ever come back now, I will just shut the door in their faces after blurting something out.

I've actually printed up little tracts with questions for believers. I tell all the JWs and LDS folks that I'll take their literature if they'll take mine. So far, the Mormons have taken it, but only one JW out of 6.

This preacher said from the pulpit that he hates Obama and prays for him to die. Obama visited his town the day after and members of his church showed up at the rally carrying guns.
