The whole paper-signing deal is just to make it look good and legal to the public.

Humans don't suck, sometimes we are put in a situation or set of circumstances that forces us to act in horrible ways. You need to understand that just as much as everything ugly and bad in the world is an aspect of the human experience and to some extent a product of human activity, so is everything good and beautiful in the world.
If only this movie spent more screen time on Christopher than that stupid blubbering fuckhead Wikus. Christopher was an interesting character, and I truly felt connected with him and wanted to learn more about him. Wikus was annoying and obnoxious, and nearly all of his scenes are saturated with screaming, f-bombs, and over-the-top violence that splatters the camera lens.
Can't wait for the sequel. I'm obsessed with this movie, I have seen it well over 30 times, mostly I was reviewing the sub titles. People think they are repeating the same sounds but it is different. I don't even speak english to my brother anymore, we both converted what there was of a language from that movie, and we speak only that. You guys should try it, epic to go to a resturant and order a meal in it, proclaiming that you don't know english. LOL no joke, try it. :)

I loved this movie, my mom usually falls asleep during movies but she stayed awake for this one! The only problem I have with this film is the fact people always start whining about how humans are so selfish and cruel ect. Which is true, but they act as if they are so wise and all knowing but they end up being a bunch of hypocrites. But it's the only oppressed minority film that I've loved let alone can stand.
It was a great movie. A fresh breath of air. It is kind of funny because of the weird circumstances but the story has a good message in it. (satire kind of message)

Did anyone else get the impression that Christopher was female? As you said, the name is the one assigned by humans, I really got the impression, from the shape of the eyes and other physical tells, that "Christopher" was supposed to be a female and that the humans were just so unconcerned that they hadn't bothered to designate sex to the refugees. Or perhaps it was supposed to impress on us that the "Prawns" were asexual. Or perhaps I'm just reading too much into it?

@Kuya1991 Wikus can understand what they're saying, so it's reasonable to expect that MNU officials are trained to interpret their language. It's also possible, based on a few linguistic cues in the film, that the aliens speak a different dialect around humans for the sake of easier interpretation

Sharlto Copley is a damn good actor. This is his first feature film, and it is already on par with....I don't know, Heath Ledger?
Jason Cope does a good job with Christopher Johnson and other prawns. I can feel his anger at Wikus when he says "You keep away from my child!"

At this point in the movie the aliens have been on earth for 28 years, so the two species can understand each other's language.

Humans can hear prawn, prawn can hear humans. But they can't speak each other's languages since the vocal chords are so dissimilar.

@Kuya1991 Wikus can understand what they're saying, so it's reasonable to expect that MNU officials are trained to interpret their language. It's also possible, based on a few linguistic cues in the film, that the aliens speak a different dialect around humans for the sake of easier interpretation
