ooh i didnt know the dollar stores have dvds...but i did go to a yardsale and this lady got laid off of blockbuster she was a manager, she had thousands of dvds for a dollar i bought at least 50 dollars worth not including her movie posters and cutouts
Horror express Was good I agree! Cant seem to find the DVD though the streetfighter was pretty good, its in widescreen! Try to get the Brentwood dvd's of the street fighter movies, they are really chap but have the best transfers..
Yeah those Dollar Tree DVDs have no special features whatsoever, and they are all in fullscreen format only but for 50 cents you really can't complain! After all, you have to pay a minimum of 1 dollar just to rent a movie these days!
Ive bought a few of these 2 for $1 DVDs at Dollar Tree also! I also own Sword of Lancelot and its quite good. Also own Magic Sword with Basil Rathbone, and I loved that fantasy movie too. Found some old Christopher Lee,Vincent Price, and Bela Lugosi films too-what a deal! Send me a comment if you want to chat about them. I don't think the quality is the best, but for that price you just can't beat it!
Yeah, I got these at Dollar Tree here in MN. I also have SWORD OF LANCELOT that I bought somewhere else, but haven't watched it yet. THE MAGIC SWORD is a personal longtime favorite of mine, and I am very, VERY happy to have that one on DVD as well.
Hey Greg, sounds like you are finding an interesting mix of cheapo DVDs in your neck of the woods. Congratulations.
The great thing with these orphaned films and TV shows is that they cover some very weird and wonderful genres, and many of them you have nothing to judge them by other than the cover and maybe a cast list.
It's like panning for gold or treasure hunting, I love it!
Now if I could just get around to watching the darn things once in awhile. Lol
I can't resist the cheopo slim-case EastWest and Digiview DVDs. Never heard of Real Bruce Lee, but I've got Fist of Fear Touch of Death, containing Bruce Lee Conspiracy Theory
I've picked up gems at my local ("A Dollar") like Corbucci's Samurai with Eli Wallach, Cassandra Cat a Finnish fantasy, and a Barbara Steele double feature
Animation I've picked up Bozzetto's VIP: My Brother Superman, early Anime Panda and the Magic Serpent, and Grimault's Curious Adventures of Mr Wonderbird
Terrific updates. Please keep it up MovieFiend. I'm approaching 40 and I'm really happy when I see video updates by people closer to that age. Nothing against the younger people, though. There are lots of them I watch. Must say the $1 DVD is a great topic. I don't have many of those beyond some of the collections. I have a great Hitchcock one, and a film noir boxset that were public domain but surprisingly decent quality. I love that you can find the most obscure titles. That's fun.
Hey Indie, you're just a young whipper-snapper. I'm almost forty-seven. Lol
I had to go back to the dollar store for supplies last week, and I picked up seven more DVDs for $3.50. What I really like about these cheapo discs is that you don't mind taking a flier and buying them blind and giving them a chance. Sure, some "classic" or "great" films you want remastered DVDs with all the bells & whistles and a ton of extras, but lets face it, not all movies need or deserve that.
I would go with the best of the best.I generally don't seek out movies that in the dollar or 50 cents bin because most of them are recorded on SLP speed and are of poor quality and are obscure or cult titles that I never heard of.I see them all the time in places like Walgreens pharmacy but I yet to buy one but know people who have.If something catches my eye and features an actor I like or I've seen the film and liked it I might buy it but I generally go with mainstream or indie films.
Thanks for the feedback. I have to admit that my own inclination was to get only the best for quite awhile, but then the video and DVD companies kept double (triple, etc.) dipping, and I was rebuying more stuff than buying new stuff. Lately, as I have been broke, I have been doing A LOT of digital recording and seeking out bargains.
I mean, I hardly watch anything these days, so I might as well ignore cheap DVDs rather than expensive ones. Lol! ;-)
I hate this double/triple dipping! Fox video is driving nuts by splitting Family Guy seasons in half i.e. the curent one, vol.6, contains the second half of season 5 and the first half of season 6 so if you want to get all of season 6,you have to buy season 7 when it comes out next Sept. I bought Rob Zombie's version of Halloween on DVD when it came out only to now find a Director's Cut on Blu-Ray with 4 hours of extras.Kung Fu Panda is being marketed double-dipping style too. Arrgh!
Yeah, it gets to be a real pain in the you know where.
I don't mind paying a fair price for a DVD or Blu-ray, just don't sandbag me by releasing a better version a short time later just to make some extra cash. This practice just turns people off.
The sad thing is, all they would have to do is release a bare bones version and a deluxe version on the same day, and I think people would buy A LOT more of the higher prices "deluxe" versions right away if they knew for sure it would remain the best edition available for awhile.
Hope you don't mind me commenting I am a new subscriber. Sometimes I see films in Walmart and The dollar store and check them out. If it is someone I know I pick it up. A lot of times I get cartoons for my kids they have a great selection of old cartoons and fairytale remakes.
heebieandjeebie: Yeah, I'm pretty much the same way. I mean, I love the Criterion Editions and all that, but I also love walking out of the dollar store holding eleven DVDs (13 movies) for about five bucks as well.
I love b movies...i own those in my collections.I love arch hall jr. and beatnicks...I love jd movies..i purchased movies from $ store...No prob. good quality..Bad movies i love....

Very cool!
I love when they actually have a few upper end DVDs in their stock; as opposed to the public domain fly-by-night releases.
Congrats; and Happy New Year!

Heck no I don't mind. You go ahead and comment all you want. :)
BTW: I have a stack of dollar cartoon DVDs too. They helped me keep my niece amused as she was growing up (but I love 'em also. Lol ;).
Thanks for posting a comment, and have a wonderful weekend!
