  • A wonderful improvisation, thank you. I love the low, dark sound of the bass recorder very much!

    Jo from Germany

  • When he is not blowing the hell out of the overtones, it sounds good.

  • omg must be a democrat, lets get some federal funding to force people to pay for this "art"

  • I love my bass so much, but this shames the recorder. It is a fipple flute to be played in groups, not a didgeridoo. This is not technique, this is blowing so hard it goes sharp while breathing through your nose

  • adds the dramatic character. love it.

  • perfect for the distrust chapters of horror, spy, and sci-fi! :)

  • That's actually rather interesting. I don't get why people feel such need to bring your playing down.

  • sounds more like a digeridoo!

  • i agree, you don't have a lot of melody ideas but your harmonic experiment is interesting. Just hard for ears.

  • i'm always listening to this video. Wonderful music. You inspired me to start to play bass recorder. Maybe i'll make some video in a future.

  • trippin' man.

  • terrible !

Keep this kind of thing inside your private life !

Don't bring these crazy behavior at public !

  • Que merda!!!!!kkkkkkk

  • wonderful ! 5*

  • Tenho que dizer que isso é péssimo. É repetitivo e indefinido.

  • @ ocarinaplaya

WOW! I'd dread to go to the sort of concerts you do.

Most probably the sort consisting of "actual music".

  • i think you are confusing improvisational with experimental.

in any case, this is just crap whether you call it music or not.

  • You have no idea.

  • Horrible sound from such a lovely instrument. Stop it please.

  • Are you using sound processing to get the multiphonics? Or are you singing into the recorder? Otherwise I don't see how you can do the stuff around the 5 minute mark.

  • sound like an dieing whale or somthing

  • This recorder is big, but the sound is little

  • Small nothing. Notice how the hall is filled and reverberates the rich tone.

  • Friend, you will damage your recorder!

  • It's plastic so he doesn't really have to worry about damaging it.

  • Amazing!

I hope to listen to more bass recorder improvisations from you.

  • Your altissimo register is incredible. How are you able to utilize the extreme altissimo? Love the vocalizations too. Great job.

  • nossa toca isso direito!

  • that's really bad.... bass is hard to get a good tone on, the crook style mouthpiece is better- in the right hands!

  • it destroys the poor flute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HORRIBLE.... I alsp play 5 flutes and I am able to play spontaniously without any descriptions..... he's just able to find the tones eithin a first grab.....

  • AWESOME! ONe of the next on my (long) list of instruments I'd like to own.

  • I've been playing recorder for almost seven years now (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass), and I must say I've never heard anything like this on bass before. It's very interesting, and I like it.

  • what is that

  • It looks like a huge BONG

  • Whered'ja get that?

  • But the emperor is naked!

  • I remember that short story...

    "But he has nothing on!"

It's been a while since I've thought about that.

  • It is 'improvisation' after all! ;) Open ears and an open mind are required. :)

  • Very interesting!!!

    I like it!!!

  • hot damm! nice. i miss playing the bass recorder. i got to get me one one day. but i want to learn some guitar first.

you figure all that out yourself?

  • Very nice sound, ideas and possibilities you show on the bass recorder!

If you visit brazil some time please let me know. If you have interest, i would like to make som improvised sesson with you.

Usually something like my trio TEC (see videos).

I'll send your videos to some improvisers frineds of mine.

  • Sounds like wierd whale noises. Interesting. I've been learning the alto for few days (piano player at present), but I've wondered whether I'd be more popular in my local recorder society (not a member yet) if I learned the bass. I tried the tenor for about a week and thought it might be a bit stretchy. Anyway, I think it's pretty good that you've actually produced such a long solo on the bass in this idiom (excuse my ignorance).

  • I think I found where they hid the X-Files stock music soundtrack. Or is this from Amazing Stories?

  • were you using a microphone? I hear some echo. Also, did you hum and play at the same time?

  • copy of earlier reply: I am using the little Yamaha ST5 personal studio. I finally took the plunge and drilled a hole in my Yamaha bass recorder. It's about the size of the thumbhole and on the side of the recorder at the same position as the thumbhole. Using a simple tie-clip mic I get a good signal into the ST5. I use multiphonics (fingering/breath) and the simple delay and pitch effects from the personal studio. I also sing/hum.

  • how big is that thing? you look pretty tall and yet it still looks big! how long is the thing in total?

  • It'll be about twice as long as your treble, 4 times as long as the sopranino, I guess!

  • interesting stuff to say the least and nice multiphonics...is that a Yamaha? those things are like 350 bucks! i have the entire Yamaha 300 line except bass. let me know what you think of my stuff.

  • yes it's a Yamaha. You need a bass to get good multiphonics. I also have an Aulos bass (having drilled a hole in the Yamaha!) but it's not so good. It's nice to find someone else doing something with the recorder. Do you perform?

  • Well i perform, but not in front of many other people right now. My ideas are very unorthodox perhaps like your own and i definitely don't think there would be any public demand for me to play if you know what i mean. I'm looking to get a plastic bass- have any recommendations. the Yamaha looks good but it's WAY too expensive in my opinion and plus, on giardinelli.com, the LMI bass got a better rating and is cheaper (if that means anything).

  • Go for the LMI: let me know how you like it. I only know the Yamaha & Aulos, and wouldn't recommend the Aulos!
