@Mr1wd That's because the trucks have to move about inside cities. You can't use a long nose, extended cab Peterbilt or Scania V8 in Europe, it wouldn't fit our curvy mountain roads and tight cities. Some people do have them, I've seen 2 or 3 Peterbilts and Freightliners and quite a few Scania V8's (what an amazing sound they make...), but they are only for highway use and taking cargo to shipping docks and the likes.

Reversing a truck isn't that hard. i am 17 now, but when i was 14 i already drove trucks.

also the thing about steering the opposite way you want to go is wrong. you got to PUSH a trailer so when you want to straighten out but not go backwards you just steer in all the way and gently lift the clutch. and when you want to turn it 90 degrees you just angle the tractor the same way as for straightening it out and PUSH it.

@MrAspect5 The long hood makes easy for access the engine with out tilting the cab. Also the sleeping compartments are much roomier than a euro truck.. Streets in America are wider so turning radius is not as critical. When I drove trucks here in America I would see home about every 18-21 days. I don't know where you get your info. In Europe the streets are narrower and I'm sure most countrys there are about the size of one of our states. You can cross one in about 4-5 hours on a Expressway.
