  • You should have never took the Notch off dude that was a bad mistake, these cars are sought after like no other and you Ruined it. I would switch it back If I were you and never tell anyone what a bad decision I made.

  • So you removed the only thing that mad ethe car worth anything, and that is a good thing? You took it from one of 624 made to one of countless clones...

  • love notchback firebirds

  • You Have a Fucking Nice Car Man !!! Really ....

  • Nice spaceship.

  • @SR3R - That transmission explanation is wrong.... First, that 350 ISN'T an LT1, it's an L98... The F-Body didn't get the LT until 93 (fourth gen). Second, trans cost wasn't the issue, in 93 on, you DID get the T-56 "corvette trans" as an option, and the price difference wasn't dramatic. Second, the L98 didn't have more torque than a regular T-5 could handle. It had to do with the fact that the vette was slow back then, also very poorly built, they didn't want the 'maro beating it out.

  • @scottyas209

    What he said - :-) Agreed 100%

  • I just bought an 87' GTA and @ cooldude79790 it was because they would have had to stuck the corvette manual transmission in it and would have been a more expensive car. So people would look at the GTA price and Corvette price and would be like.. well why get a GTA when I can get a Vette?

The 350 TPI LT1 was throwing major amounts of torque, and the regular manual transmissions wouldnt be able to handle that.

  • get a fierro if you want a notch.

  • Why are all the GTAs automatic???

  • is this an original notchbak,or did you find the hatch and simply added it. i own 2 gta's myself. 1 is a true notchbak. do you have 2 gta;s as well? both black?

  • I just saw one of these at a car wash the other day, 88 notchback, 350 tpi, Not sure if it was factory.

  • @SGTKIFEN1 post videos of it when you are done.

  • i remember seeing one of these when i was a kid(late 80s early 90s)and thought it was cool. its a aftermarket hatch rite?

  • some actually came from the factory with those hatches.

  • The notchback looks so good, I don't like the rear spoiler that is on the normal one.

    Awesome sound!

  • damn, makes me one build mine, my dad wrecked it two days after he paid cash for it new in 86, he never bothered getting it fixed cause my uncle bought on too and didn't like it

  • My friend has a 1988 Pontiac trans am similar to yours its a 5.0 with a 5 speed! I have a 1974 Chevy Vega with a SOHC 2.3 4 Cylinder and its a auto! How badly would he beat me I know its a dumb question but what do you think would be the distance on say a quarter mile?

  • Beauty..I'm sitting in mine right now

  • wow a notch back, you dont see those everyday.

  • wow it's so smooth looking

  • @87TAGTABANDIT the '86 has the smoothest look.

  • @asdfghjkl10531 There is literally no fucking difference...

  • thanks alot guys... I cant wait until spring to drive it again...

  • @FSXPilot246 so do you stil have it its awsome baeutyful piece of history

    mi dream black golden.

  • @koioo2 Yes, I still have it! However, It is not a notchback anymore. The notch back fiberglass started to crack, get ripples, made the paint get fisheyes and all kinds of nasty stuff. It looked like shit, so I put a regular glass hatch on it, with a fiberglass wrap around spoiler. I made sure it looked factory when it was done, you cant even tell the hatch was changed. I like the way the car looks with the glass hatch anyways, I always the the notch looked funny from the side.

  • @FSXPilot246 im sad to hear what happend to the notch... my cuz got a white one... bad as fuck fer real...... looks way better with the nitch back...

  • @FSXPilot246 Still have the Notch Back hatch? I'd be interested in it if you would like to sell it. Fiber glass can be repaired or, I can used it to make a mold.

  • @FSXPilot246 your right from a side view it reminds me of a fiero

  • @koioo2 amd iof that the only problem.and rest is there anny body rust problem ?

    motor run as new ?

  • WHAT A BEAUTY!!!

  • 713 notchbacks in 88. Most had digital dashes, it was more rare an option to have analog gauges. Beautiful car though, big thumbs up!

  • the Notchback is a rare Trans Am

  • Looks like a super Fiero...No offence..I like 88 Trans Ams notchbacks and fiero gts..PONTIAC RULES the 80's

  • and in really goood condition might i add it only had 118,000 miles on it when i bought it and it now has about 122,000 on it and the 5.7L 350 TPI still runs like a champ and i havent seen another notchback with digital gauges like mine either does anyone know how many notchbacks are left or how many were made with digital gauges and other features like that if so please reply.

  • I love my 88 gta notchback i didnt know they existed till i saw it on the side of the road in a new car dealership last july the good thing is the owner of the dealership hadn't heard of them either or else it might of cost me more than $2,800 dollars.

  • i want to buy the car from you

  • I have one just like that, 1988 Notchback GTA!!!

Does your notchback trunk door weigh heavy? Have you had trouble with the shocks that hold it up? Also any problem with the motor that pulls it down?

Does your car blow white smoke everytime you started up?

Does it smell like fuel/gas after driving for a long time?

Has the oil pressure indicator gone bad on you, or just red low all the time?

Please, like to hear from you...

  • looks and sounds awesome ! i have a 88 notchbak as well,,,
