Girl Guides and Girl Scouts

I've been in Girl Scouts since I was a tag along, I'll be bridging to Senior this fall, and I love it. My troop does so much fun stuff, like planning our annual spa day, singing Christmas carols at the local nursing homes, and seeing plays. We clean up at the park, do a Christmas shopping babysitting service, tour places like radio stations, and are the leaders of our community. Can't wait for Scouts to start back up again. Have been in guides since I was 6 years old and still am. I am in the bay-to-bay district (formally the 32nd cedar). Our unit is doing a big thinking day celebration and I was watching this video trying to find items of importance to show my unit, this is very cool!! I have always found a special bond with girl guides, and it helps that my birthday happens the be on february 22nd!! Happy 100th and happy thinking day!!

It reminds me of my childhood. I joined the girl scouts in my country when I was little, it was not long after I left it that I began to miss it GREATLY. I even regretted that I wasn't interested to learn the skills at all (maybe it was because I was shy and didn't like to play with other people). It was after I left that I found how I actually love it. When I returned I didn't manage to re-learn the skills (which I desperately want to). So everyone, cherish your experiences as a girl scout!

girl scout= north america. girl guide= uk.

there are other names in other countrys. some are called in some countrys girl scouts because the parents didnt mind that but girl guides were the first names given because boy scouts was created first.

The reason they are different is so there are no distractions, so you don't have to worry about your hair or what you wear on camp. And it is proven that both sexes work better in same sex environments anyway.

I don't think so. Boys need to hang out together & do "guy stuff" & girls need to hang out together & do "girl stuff". There are plenty of other organizations & activities that they can do things together. I hope it's always Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts. Scounting in many countries is co-sex, but Guides aren't. Girl Guides in England, Ireland or anywhere else aren't mixed. Any member of WAGGGS, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts do not have males. The American version of Girl Guides are called Girl Scouts.

And though it's sexist Guides is a fantastic opportunity for girls to grow and development without having to compete against (or for) males.

As for those who are girls in a scouting movement, all the world to you, it's not segregation, it's a choice. For those of you who know the Baden-Powell story, you'll know that girls weren't originally allowed into Lord Baden-Powell's scout movement, so Lady B-P stepped in, now girls are free to pick as they wish. I recently went to Our Cabana in Cuernavaca, Mexico, its one of the four World Centers and it was the experience of a lifetime! We did tours around different cities and had lots of fun around the Cabana also! You should definitely take your troop!
