Cold calling is bullshit and is for the birds. Its also a sign of lazy managers who dont have an idea on how to generate and get access to quality leads.
My name is Tim Seitz, and its been three years since my last cold call. I stopped cold calling the week I joined BNI, and I never will go back to the cold call,. Its a lot easier to GIVE a referral to someone else, and let both people know how you can help them or someone they know, than try to sell to someone I've never met! If you want help, feel free to message me on youtube and I will tell you how to be free of cold calling for good!
Let's see..Gitomer endorses a book on cold calling on Amazon.com ""If you make cold calls, and want to make them smarter, better, more fun, and actually convert them to sales, THIS IS THE BOOK! Buy it to increase your call to sale ratio, and your sale to bank account ratio."
—Jeffrey Gitomer, - and then tells us that it's pretty much useless to cold call. Did he tell that to the author of the book he endorsed?
One other thing is when starting in new business venture you need to let others know about your product and/or service. If you don't have the bucks guess what? Cold calling is the starting point. It has been very effective for me for the past 5 years! Is warm lead or a referral better? Of course. But in order to get to that referral you gotta stick your hand out and tell another human being what you can do for them. (cold call)
I am amazed at how what you would think are normally intelligent people still believe cold calling is worth the effort. You would think a sales manager of all people would know how inefficient it is. But most of them would fight you over it. I have asked several of them when was the last time they themselves stopped what they were doing and took a cold call. To the man not one ever did. So they want their people to cold call, but wouldn't take a cold call themselves. I rest my case.
How right you are. When I was younger (much younger) I tried selling cars and did just OK. So we were given the Tom Stuker course on cold calling. Scratch your fingers on a chalk board. That was about how total strangers to you and the dealership feel about that "cold call". I research my prospects here in North Carolina NCLive Database. Fellow Tarheels go to your local library and they will hook you up for FREE. Once researched I go around to the businesses, prepared to open that sale.
