If you use a little seam tape it will make sure that your seams don't leak. Spray it with a good heavy duty silicone waterproofing and you will have a great tarp there. Great video!
Thanks for the information. I put silicon on this tarp using a mineral spirits and clear silicon recipe, it is a little tacky now but quite water-resistant. Take Care. Thanks
Kirby. Yup, the ground is a little too low for sleeping nowadays, I much prefer a cot or hopefully a hammock. (I can get to the ground easy enough but there is often some grunting and twisting about to get back up.) Take Care. Dave
Hi Dave, again good work! Keep it up! It´s a usefull hammock. If you have two of them you have a nice deal, on one side the hammock and over it the tarp and you're done :)
Thanks again. It might be a bit large at nearly 10' x 10' but I'll be assured of having a roomy hammock should I choose to use it in that fashion. I look forward to your gear video. Thanks. Dave
Sepp my friend. I've gotten to the point that I'll need to add a room to my house for storage of all my newly made gear... I have so much stuff stacked on my computer desk that my mouse is getting a bit cramped and possibly claustrophobic. Take Care. Best to you and your family. Dave
okay just rewatched and heard why you ran it the way you did....makes sense....would love to hear how you make out with this tarp after taking it into the field.....again great job and great videos....keep up the good work
Thanks for viewing and commenting. I'm anxious to see how this tarp does on a few trips too, a day with a long steady rain will be a real test of the thing. I believe I'll need to waterproof it with a silicone but I'll use it for a while to make sure. Take care.
I noticed that RaulPerez also had a similar problem with his prussik knot with some new lines he was using. both being slick lines....try adding an extra wrap to the prussik it seems to have helped him Also on a not of curiosity I am new to hammock camping as well and also like the challenge of making my own gear. Why did you choose to run your center seam the way you did? the tarp seemed to gather a bit and was curious to know if it laid better if the seam ran with the ridgeline good job!!
@ajangiuli The Amsteel is very slick, I tried some 3mm Vectran on another project as it seems less slick. The Prusiks were 3 turns on one side and 4 turns on the other as a test, once loaded well the 4 turn held marginally but the 3 turn slipped. I'll test and come up with something better. I'll make a comment in the video on the testing and progress/changes. Take Care.
Rob my friend. Thanks, I was a fleeting idea (like many of mine) that stuck around long enough to become reality -> now to see if it is of any value. I hadn't given thought to the leaf litter insulation barrier but I'm sort of confident something would have came to mind after I got cold (but that's a little late in the game sometimes). Thanks in advance for the warm night(s). Take Care. Dave
Thanks. It seems to work in its "I'm just looking at it right now" mode, A few trips out in the rain and it'll either be in the scrap bin or keeper bag but until then its a maybe item... it is sort of cute though, in a flat green kind of way. Take Care.

@bullthrush Thanks. Sewing the tarp didn't take nearly as long making and sewing on the tie points, all-in-all a few hours. Take Care.

Great idea! You can put leaf litter in between the fabric layers for insulation if you use it as a hammock.
Take care. Rob
