Marduk is and always was a great band with Hakansson leading it. Legion, Mortuus or former singers Gothberg and Axelsson (does vocals on Dark Endless, one of the best Metal albums ever), doesn't matter, they always keep it on a high level. I've seen and heard Mortuus perform live and it was demonic.

I will admit that Mortuus sounds WAY evil. His vocals are so demonic sounding its insane. He literally sounds like death, if death had a voice. I just dont really think it fits too well with Marduk for some reason.... Although i know he is quite capable of performing Marduk's old stuff, cause ive seen him do it live.

Im not sure i like Mortuus' vocals..... Im slowly downloading Marduk's discography, and i absolutely LOVE their old material! But for some reason their albums with Mortuus dont seem very black metal. And i dont mean its not "trve kvlt" or any of that little kiddie bullshit. Musically it just doesnt sound like its black metal. Mortuus' vocals seem too low, and the songs generally seem pretty slow. Anyone else think this, or is it just me?

@blackpagan100 After listening to the album in full, I can say his vocals are growing on me. I still dont like any of the slow songs, although there seem to be a few really good fast ones. I absolutely love Through the Belly of Damnation, and even better is Vanity of Vanities imo. Even though i agree its nowhere near as good as other releases, Vanity of Vanities blew my balls of the first time i heard it!!!

I got this cd some time ago. Got home very late, put the CD on laying down to sleep but it was to great to even blink while listening to it. I listened to it twice and I fell asleep when the sun came out. I missed work that day but luckily my boss believed the story I made up.

Having said that, i do appreciate the original 2nd wave BM sound when it's done well. And Marduk does it well. I just feel like so many people cut themselves off from so much good music because either it doesn't fit into their idea of "cool" or, i guess, they just really like listening to the same thing regurgitated over and over again. So many people freak out when a band experiments a bit.

@mola55e5 i dont know how many people would agree with me, but i would say that a few bands have been progressing BM in to a new wave. It sort of leaves behind all the past needed elements of blast beats and brings in a new type of sound, but with a more authentic feel. The only way i can describe it is the atmosphere of early mayhem,DT etc. but with new technology and ideas. I mean Mortuus is a big player in this too. This song and "Anti Flesh Nimbus" are just signs of whats to come i hope.

if it's a prerequisite of black metal that there can't be bass, then BM is in a sad state... That's the problem with all these subgenres: If you say oh, Black metal is ONLY this or that, then you remove all room for growth, and things get stale. Burzum et al were pioneers, but i don't want to hear a bunch of bands that all sound just like them. Who wants to hear nothing but blast beats and tremolo picking album after album? People r afraid to listen 2 anything challenging.

I dont like it anymore, I only liked it because my sister made me, if I listened to anything else she would start preaching to me and wouldn't leave me alone and tell me I'm going to hell, then I got sick of it and ignored her, then changed everything on my I-pod and now I cant really stand any christian band. The only decent christian band I think out there is sacrificium, they are actually pretty good, they got some brutal stuff, they actually worry about the music before the lyrics.
