  • I'd tap that!

  • Wats the weight of the shotput ?

  • @treelizard99 12 pound for men, 8 for women

  • He is a senior at the Air Force Academy

  • You make it look like it's so easy when it's not... You have my sincere admiration!

  • This is Lohith superb, awesome, fantastic, morvolous,He has great technique plese follow it it works great.

  • wooo bozeman montana! i love it there im from wyoming!

  • this kid got 4th in state? good for him, but his technique needs alot of work.

  • nyc throw...

  • we watched this at school today.......... i was one of the 2 people who got it right......

  • i say 14 cuz i turn 14 on may 29 and i dont lift weights all normal i train with a conditioning and strenght trainer

  • i say 14 cuz i turn 14 on may 29 and i dont lift weightsall normal i train with a conditioning and strenght trainer

  • Dude today in my track meet I threw 44 but I stepped out, that would have won it for me but I got 3rd. Oh yeah I'm in 8th grade too.

  • im a freshman-an i throw 42ft! but im a lil guy an coach thinks i should change to spin-tech. anyone hav a better tuturial-vid!! ive got glide-tuturial vids on myy channel!!-peace

  • it ticks me off when i throw against some people who r not commited to shot and throw it in there running shoes r othe shoes accept for shot put shoes they waste everyones time when they barely can throw to

  • @lemuel234 On a discus video you said you were 14 you knob. 8th grade? so 13 yearolds hitting the weight room? You are a pretentious little get! what kind of weights dose a 13 year old do.

  • @curlyies I don't usually comment, but seeing this I had to. I'll be 15 in August and have been weightlifting since I turned 12. I was in 7th grade. Now I'm a Freshman and I just benched 145 in a powerlifting competition; I weigh 123. Don't judge. It's good to start early.

  • @LiftingChick74 yeah fair dues, i realise there is agreat deal of hypocrisy in my comment as i started weigthtlifting when i was 13 for rugby. Although few actualy know what they`re doing, 13 year olds that is... i know i didnt

  • 28 inches? u mean 28ft and i guess thats ok not that good. Trust me u have to get at least over 30ft im in 8th also and i throw 45. But if ur really commited to the shot i suggest hitting the weight room. i hit it every day. thats y im in such good shape haha

  • 28 inches? u mean 28ft and i guess thats ok not that good

  • Im an 8th grade girl and i do shot put and i got 28in and placed first in this event. Can someone tell me if thats good or not? I also do sprints and hurdles and looking to improve for high school.

  • i started shot put in the 7'th grade, i tried the standing/ power, andit didnt feel right, i tried the spin, and fell on my face (lol), then my friend showed me a move i hadent seen done before, the lunge, when i got in the position it felt right. this just goes to show ya the first move you try wont always be hte best so try and find the 1 that sutes you.

  • spin vs glide doesnt matter. timmerman does glide and is the second best thrower ever, and barnes does spin and is the best thrower ever but only by a little.

  • ok how do u do the glide can u make a new video or do u have one all ready

  • which head(s) of the tricep is used in shotput? and sicus? because im doing that too

  • @victor1204t

I wouldn't worry about the different heads, just get strong as hell. Although in discus the tricep isn't that important because the arm stays completely straight, it's more of a midsection movement where as shot put is more of a upper body event.

  • @victor1204t

I should add that there is still a lot of upper body involvement in the discus. If you want to be good you need to have everything strong.

  • what if ur a beginer in shot put and u need to throw the ball ferther with out sping

    please respond back thanks

  • @kable9495 use the glide it put 10 feet on my distance

  • Dude.... these guys are good but they scratched soooo much. Don't hate as I'm just observing.

  • I do shot put for jr high. I can throw 31 feet with the 6lb. :) It's not as easy as most people think it is..it involves a lot of technique!

  • Comment removed

  • i'd probly do better at shot put if i could bench more than 135...

  • @MitchH0406 It would defiantly help if you could bench a lot, but the most important thing is technique. Now if you can't bench a lot that doesn't matter as much because most of the power comes from your quads. What you need to make sure is that for whatever type of throw you are doing, you end up in your power position. And it's important that when in your power position your leg is bent enough so that if you drop the shot it won't land on your foot. The last thing to remember is a good block.

  • @willman1661

Get fucking real. Most of the power comes from the upper body. Wake up and smell the coffee.

  • @Apjooz NO, it's all about how fast and powerful you can get across the circle.

  • @willman1661

Youtube "track giants", a very good slo mo video of shot putters. Watch it and tell me when does the shot really start to accelerate.

  • @Apjooz You still can't break records if you don't have good tech

  • Its kinda pathetic on how people think that Shot Put is an easy Sport. You need to have serious muscle for this event, many long and tiring hours of practice and weight room training are a must if you even want to consider being competitive. Its very rewarding though, one of the best sports that I've ever competed in.

  • Shot put is all about technique.

I know people who are easily stronger than me who don't throw it as far.

  • @TheHolySC

1 or 2 cases prove nothing, have you ever heard about statistics?

  • @Apjooz i know that people who r stronger than me can throw further than i.

It is just SOME people who r stronger than me don't use their full potential.

They stand there and throw it.

Not even using a spin or the 2 step.

  • @TheHolySC

So shot put is not all about technique...

  • @Apjooz Technique is IMPORTANT.

The people who throw further than me use good technique.

So it ISN'T everything like i said before.

I made a mistake in my commenting.

  • @TheHolySC

Yeah ok buddy, I understand. Technique is important too. Take care. :)

  • what was this guy'z furtherest throw and with what weight and how old is he??? xD

  • @TheMrfitz1995 55'11" with 12lb for high school and it said he was a senior in HS, so probably 18..

  • glide works for me best

  • im a freashman and throwing about 35-40 ft with shotput and 90-100 ft on diskus. im glideing on shotput and pressing diskus. is this good?

  • I did it freshman year, I sucked at the disc, the shot put, I was bad in as well lol and the jav, I was...alright you can say lol. Any workouts I can do to increase my explosion and hip coordination?

  • @taethekoreanking power cleans are a great way to train your hips and also your quads. last year i threw like 24 feet with a 12. 3 months ago i started power cleaning and im throwing 30+ consistently now.

  • @suhjinko2 Yeah that's what my coach said, power cleans, air squats, and some deadlifts are good exercises he said. Does yoga help in any way as well?

  • @taethekoreanking not that im aware of... it probably helps keep your muscles loose and helps u maintain balance. your hips need to be really loose so you can get deeper into your stance if youre gliding.

  • sector

  • isnt that spin south african?

  • i love shot put and running :) its not that hard

  • I'm a freshman in high school and I threw 41' 2" today! It was a power throw, no form at all.

  • @ZSH2K10 Learn how to glide bro

  • lol ya def make sure u do this exactly bc i did somehting wrong and almost compleley destroyed my rottator in my shoulder.... and that sucks when u hurt it trust me

  • at our school our coach teaches us to "slide" instead of spin its kind of like building momentum and releasing it all into a half spin

  • @bluewaffle2014 its a glide

  • Im just now trying out for track. Im a middle school girl and how far is like the averge? My dad had the recored when he was in High School and he wants me to do shot put.

  • @xxxalliexxxx it depends on what state you're in. in my state, when I was in Middle school, I competed against some girls who got in the early 40s as their best, and they averaged around in the 30s (this is in feet btw) at meets, as did I, so I think it can vary...

  • My football coach made everybody on the team do track and I have no idea how it is but I hate him for that

  • 1:17 ,,

    you are SO bad ;D

  • People think that shot put is so esy. No. It is not at all. I would love to see you throw a 8-12 pound ball around 35-50 feet.

  • @victoriajean13 Actually, when I first started shot put (7th grade) I could throw the ball 35 feet :D

  • @iGrowlnvmbite I was saying to other people. They just think that it is a dumb thing to do. All you do is throw a ball. It is annoying. I never even said you couldn't?

  • @victoriajean13 Lol, I'm just braggin'. That's all. :P

  • @victoriajean13

People say whatever they want. But the best shot putters bench around 600 pounds so they are kinda strong I think...

  • @Apjooz True. But I'm talking about like the people who look at shot put as an easy thing to do. Like I know what the people on my high school team just do it to get out of running and other workouts. We do more work than the other people.

  • oooo great ... 5 meters =)))) you are really good

  • i hope for all the littluns that this guy never coaches

  • @Throwrw hahaha

  • his shirt says booger, teehee

  • im a sprinter but made it to state in shot put im freaken skinny ! hahah

  • shot put is alot easier when you have the techqiue

  • ill say one thing, the reporter looks extremely coordinated for his first time doing the full spin haha...

  • How long did it take u to get good???? I really cant seem to figure this quite out and I on the varsity track team?

  • in shot put my highest is 9.98m and i'm a girl :P i got into the zones in the districts athletics but lost.. i should of came first but the lady cheated and gave it to the other girl that got 8.81m i bet her by heaps!!.. then after the zones i would of went to the regionals then the states but noooooo.. >.<

  • Do you have to spin?

  • @Cameronthenerd you don't have to, but that's how to get it to go further

  • @Griff15garfield No no no. Both are the same, depends on body type.

  • @Griff15garfield common misconception...depends mostly on body type. Michael carter was a glider. and he threw 81 in high school

  • @Griff15garfield how heavy is a normal shot put ball usually?

  • @Griff15garfield That doesnt make it go further its just a different teqnique

  • @Cameronthenerd no you don't have to spin it just helps

  • First time i've touched the put i threw 7.5m, standing, no glide technique. Now i've watched some videos and i am starting to like the glide more than the spin :)

  • that guy is so short

  • 1:20 LMAO that was even shorter then my other one ahahahahahahahahaha

  • man it is really annoying how all the americans measure in feet. we measure in meters in the UK

  • Shot put is hard. I have like no technique and like only strength throw it out there and my videos are of tenth grade. I'll be a junior when the next year starts, go to my channel to see.

  • how far he throwing? im a sophmore gettin 50ft 11' in shot 143'7 in discus

  • @RealFast0Food he threw 55' 11" that year. 177 in the discus

  • im in seventh grade and i throw 25 ft:)

  • @13Mberry yea and it is also with an 8 or 10 pound shot lol i can`t remember

  • im only a freshman and in high school my first year of shotput and i can throw 29'6 feet.... is that good?

  • @buckinator95 For a freshman, that's pretty impressive. Most of the throwers on my team were junior this year (myself included), and most of them only threw 30'-31', while I didn't do much better (34'-35'.) You're on course to be pretty good.

  • shot put is more of form than strength. you can bench 50 pounds less than someone, and still throw significantly farther than them

  • Shot put's hard! I'm doing it for track, and I yell at my friends (who are SPRINTERS!) when they tell me it's easy. I'd like to see them try!

  • @SassyNinjaWolf lol I'm a sprinter and it's easy for me I sprint AND do shot AND throw discus it's all easy it just takes practice and training and you'll be REALLY good, trust me.

  • @SassyNinjaWolf shot is easy as fuck compared to sprinting and distance, it's hard to be good at but you spend a total of 20 seconds actually competing at a meet

  • @NextTooNothing Actually it really isn't. I am a 7th grade girl and i do both shot put and the 400m run. Shot put is a lot harder. No it is not just because I'm a girl.

  • wats avg for a 7th grade shot

  • 25 ft

  • @MrSausage0123 when i was in 7th i was throwing 40 but you got to have good form

  • we dont have a coach and i need to do well in this event. i can only do 27 feet with an 8lb shot. i have no routine because we dont have a coach. someone help based on my verbal description?

  • @bbaIlcaps Do you mean like a warm up before you throw or a workout?

  • @izallskilfoo no. In general. but now im throwing about 29-30 feet, not in a warm up. but i need to be able to throw 10 more feet

  • no im saying most shotputters are fat. this guy has more actual muscle.

  • finally a shotputter who isnt a complete fatass

  • What does that have to do with anything?

Fat people can be strong, dumbass.

  • James is cuuute. :)

  • im in secenth grade and i just started throwing the shotput any advice?

  • @57abcdefg : Yes, get a coach! Same goes for tehpwnerguy under here. It's hard to give advice when we don't see how you throw. Get a coach, and preferrably a good one!

  • 57abcdefg start off in power and then move to the glide... spin needs a lot of practice and is used by better putters but glide and spin are the way to go

  • im trying out out now for 8th grade shot put but im having trouble with mt technique any pointers

  • dont be lazy and do track

  • my track coach makes everybody take at least 3 events, i joined shot put and realized how much stronger i have to be haha

  • i'm a noob admitting my ignorance

can you start with one foot out of the circle

    don't laugh at me

  • no u have to have both feet in the circle and the shot has to be above ur shoulder

  • thx

  • nope.

  • wow i cant even throw that far but im only a freshman in high school im hoping to be reaching 50s by my senior year any advice please message me

  • lol

  • No.

  • improve your core muscles and work on your technique.

  • im determined to learn this lol. smh

  • im a rotation thrower and i m hitting about 58-60. <<senior

  • oh my god

i just joined track and field at my school for shot put and javelin...and i cant throw an 8 pound practice ball across my gym....im screwed for track meets

  • the guy throws as far as i throw and i a frosh

  • damn

you can only throw that far?

  • wtf is that suppose to mean

  • pusssy i through twice that far and i have one leg.....unless i have a boner then i have 2

  • that James guy is good he can help me!!! lol

  • At least he kinda knows how to do the stand throw/power throw

  • "and now u know the basics"

"and by the way,my real name is bond........."

  • I'm surprised that he only had the throw a 55 to win state. English from my school won state and his best throw is a 63

  • all states are different lol

  • u both scratched

  • this helped me break my arm....thx

  • SOOO HELPFUL!!!!

now how do i train to get extra strength in my throw?

  • My stand throw was 57 feet.

How come I didn't get my own video.. ?

  • LOL MY ASS

  • Ok.

  • Live in a small town

  • ur full of it rofl dude no freakin way u throw 12pnd shot 57 ft stand still ur are lieing out of ur ass

  • Umm.. yeah... I threw 63 feet in high school. Don't hate just because you can only dream to do what I accomplished. Come see me and I'll show you...

  • u only jump 6 ft from stand still to with spin dude i know ur lieing now or ur tequniqe just freakin sucks

  • Why don't you just like... get a fucking life?

Cause obviously all you do is sit on YouTube all day and talk shit over the computer cause you know in real life you'd get your ass beat in a second.

I'll meet you anytime. Just name the time and place.

  • lol thats funny considering u have no idea who u might be talking to that rlly shows ur probly somone who lives with their parents or just now moved out u obviously havnt had a taste of the real world at all if all u can do is threaten me over the internet get a life u sitting on youtube talking trash too way to contradict what u say looser lol ur jsut mad cause i know that u bull shitting

  • verry childish way to handle things lol go ask ur mom for money to go to wal mart ey probly only time u ever get out of the house

  • That absolutely made no sense... but sure.

  • "And now you know the basics"

    Should of done Glide....

  • yeh

  • This guy has sloopy technique and he still throws pretty far

  • Well, this is called the "Spin" as you can tell, maybe you can do a video on the other shot technique called the "glide." The glide is an easier technique for beginners, and it's the better of the 2 techniques for most people.

  • thanx im going in a state comp n this should help alot

  • Idea for a new Basics? Post it here...

  • @Griff15garfield javelin :)

  • @Griff15garfield what about excersizes you can do to train for the shot put?
