A truly wonderful song. I'm studying French A-Level at the moment and didn't realise how beautiful the language was until I listened to french songs + it's really helping me to grasp the language!
It's a beautilful song but and it's very well translated but i'm french and when Zazi say:"je suis un homme au pied du mur" it mean "i'm a man at the feet of the wall" (i don't if it's a right sentence) but "in front of" is said "en face de" in french
Okay, I Love this song and wish to find more like it. Meaning a song with powerful lyrics and good music. nothing to fast about at the pace she goes is good. I been trying to find some but it is hard. So if you know some please tell me. much appreciated thanks.
@Apocalypsekid96 I would advice you "une mère" or "la centenaire" by lynda lemay. That's beautiful too. There are a lot of songs of the same artist whom made "je suis un homme", like "zen" or "pleure" by zazie. But I could quote So many songs by georges brassens who's my favourite french singer "toi l'auvergnat". :)
And who [in this general carnage] will exterminate him who exterminates all others? Himself. It is man who is charged with the slaughter of man... So it is accomplished... the great law of the violent destruction of living creatures. The whole earth, perpetually steeped in blood, is nothing but a vast altar upon which all that is living must be sacrificed without end, without measure, without pause, until the consummation of things, until evil is extinct, until the death of death."
'Proud and terrible king, he wants everything and nothing resists him... from the lamb he tears its guts and makes his harp resound... from the wolf his most deadly tooth to polish his pretty works of art; from the elephant his tusks to make a toy for his child - his table is covered with corpses...
"Man's destructive hand spares nothing that lives; he kills to feed himself, he kills to clothe himself, he kills to adorn himself, he kills to attack, he kills to defend himself, he kills to instruct himself, he kills to amuse himself, he kills for the sake of killing.
I have already been through mexicos, korean, japanese music...a little bit of arabic..now im going to search for some good french songs :)..I enjoy international music :) just love to listen to different types of styles
@Peri1992010 i would recommend you MC Solaar, which may be difficult to understand because his flow is fast and he 's juggling with the french language but you don't seem to care about it ; )
Daniel Balavoine is worth to listen to (L'Aziza, Ma Bataille, Tous les cris les SOS, SOS d'un Terrien en Détresse)
@pinkhighlighterful To me, It feels like she's trying to tell a story about a man who can't control himself around other women and he knows it's wrong, but can't find the willpower to make it stop. That seems like it to me since I take french and understand it and the actual french lyrics has more meaning to it then the english.
@FABUL0OSDiVAS yeh, i always took it to be a kind of homage to french modernism (like Joyce was), and critiquing the way man bends the world to his own will, and how the world becomes shaped by the ideologies of man - and yet the existence man creates for himself is usually his destruction. And I always translated 'moi je tourne en rond' as I go round in circles
@pinkhighlighterful The lyrics are in English... It's about how mankind (men AND women; humans) have a nature to destroy and want things, since we believe ourselves to be "kings" ruling the planet. Then she sings about how we could be natures mistake since all we do is walk around killing things out of our way.
This song caught my attention when I first heard it. Now that I know what the lyrics mean, it amazes me even more. What a fantastic piece of music. It redeems my faith in human beings.
From my minimal French experience (meaning level 1 unit 1 of Rosetta Stone), I can understand poisson and je suis un homme, and that's about it, but gosh darn it, someday I will understand this whole song written in this beautiful language <3

Njsellars = You're a GREAT man for posting french songs with english subtitles. I'm french and would like to make discover our singers to foreign friends... and I do now, thanks to U !! A huge kiss to you from Paris ;-)
Am i hearing something wrong or is the part translated as "Yes I am doomed, I am doomed" translated incorrectly?.....what i actually hear there is "Mais mon compte est bon, mon compte est bon." ...Meaning "but my (bank)account is OK."
...this actually would make more sense to me in the context of that particularpart of lyrics and sadly it would make this awesome song even MORE awsome and true :)

@NintendoMaster098 bonjour, i found it easier to understand the song in french by having an online translator, u can just google one, i just typed in the english sentences then u can catch the words when she sings them in french. cause the first time i heard the song i didnt understand much of it, and my french is a little rusty ... :-/
Well you made a few mistakes, like "J'etudie le francias dans mon ecole" it's francais and not francias, and you don't say "dans mon ecole" it's "j'etudie le francais a l'ecole". Also, you said you're Canadian BUT you live in ontario ? i think you meant "je suis Canadien ET j'habite en Ontario."
Last, but not least, you can't say "je suis en classe de dixième. " That's the only think that made absolutely no sense. Try to fix it :)

@xboston1 it'd be C'est tres bien (Le cinema est tres bon?)
@roric33 Your sentence is not perfect but i've understood, and for *time* it's in French *temps* the correct sentence is: (Ma professeur n'est pas Français mais elle a vécu un peu de temps en France. (For that: Mon Professeur is not correct because ur teacher is a woman so u must say: Ma professeur) but don't worry my English is bad. :)
@SkillzMan1027 Hey!!! I'm french and maybe i can answering to your question. Did u know one of the title of his song? And maybe it's "Faudel" but i'm not sure. (Sorry for my bad American :)).
@MrSpencerJay Thanks I found it it was "Mon Pays" by Faudel I misread it. Thanks for the help. By the way, not to be mean or anything, but in America we speak English not American. But don't worry it was a good mistake to make. Thanks!
@AutumnGracy um.. no she isnt? I could see someone thinking that if they only listened to the first verse, but since she clearly contrasts man to woman in the second it cant be a reference to the human race. She is making a reference to men, as in males. She is saying that men destroy the world, they are bound by their own chains, they treat women like commercial products, and that they act like kings though really they are only pricks. glad i could clear things up for you :)

Try to fix it :)

roric33 1 year ago
@roric33 Your sentence is not perfect but i've understood, and for *time* it's in French *temps* the correct sentence is: (Ma professeur n'est pas Français mais elle a vécu un peu de temps en France. (For that: Mon Professeur is not correct because ur teacher is a woman so u must say: Ma professeur) but don't worry my English is bad. :)

@SkillzMan1027 Dont use Google translate on whole sentances, it can screw things up (Tip from French teacher)

@SkillzMan1027 Hey!!! I'm french and maybe i can answering to your question. Did u know one of the title of his song? And maybe it's "Faudel" but i'm not sure. (Sorry for my bad American :)).
MrSpencerJay 1 year ago
@MrSpencerJay Thanks I found it it was "Mon Pays" by Faudel I misread it. Thanks for the help. By the way, not to be mean or anything, but in America we speak English not American. But don't worry it was a good mistake to make. Thanks!

Zazie is a woman (even if it's not the best picture of her).
When she talk about monkey and fish, it refers to Darwin evolution ...

@antonbuckley She's trying to say that humans are just another animal.
AutumnGracy 1 year ago 38
@AutumnGracy um.. no she isnt? I could see someone thinking that if they only listened to the first verse, but since she clearly contrasts man to woman in the second it cant be a reference to the human race. She is making a reference to men, as in males. She is saying that men destroy the world, they are bound by their own chains, they treat women like commercial products, and that they act like kings though really they are only pricks. glad i could clear things up for you :)
