  • my son asked me about the kid and i told him that's another story

  • 5 dislike!? well their getting coal this year.

  • Wow I never seen this before but it really cute

  • I luv it,not christmas without it.

  • Bloomin' marvellous!

  • @ LadyOfTheShadows19... I think the film your talking about is called "Grandad" the old guys not Santa its her Grandfather.. still an absolute childhood classic tho, and so sad at the end.. I cry ever time!

@nicog79 Thanks for posting this up.. I had it on VHS as a kid and watched it all the time but lost the tape growing up somewhere.. brings back really happy memmories so a heartfelt Thankyou for posting! :oD

  • really??? whats with the american fear of alcohol. The idea that santa doesnt drink is so ridiculous. As a kid we always left a glass of whiskey for santa. And the implication was that he'd receive one in damn near every house.... Guess they don't do that in the states. And they stereotype us as the boring ones. To me Christmas means drinking so you can't seperate the two. Lets face it... santa would be fuckin wrecked on Christmas Eve

  • I just found a version of this on the net and it was the american version. Talk about sanitised. It like hollywood wiped all over my childhood memories with disinfectant. In that version he has a posh accent, is happy not grumpy, doesn't drink and doesn't show his bum!

  • wts thw film called where i think its father christmas and ther is a little girl with him and they go to the seaside and go for donkey rides

  • Lol Uncle Bob. I see what you did there... XD

  • I live father christmas video

  • YES! THE SNOWMAN LIVES ON!!! Oh, all those years of crying for nothing :D. Although, I think that kid is taking everything for granted now, he was just like, "Hi Santa, now where's my present?!"

  • @minicolster Oh yes I noticed that. You'd think he'd be overjoyed to have his snowman back. That would be present enough for me!! Chrismas isn't even about presents, anyways! Jeesh!

  • Thanks for posting these 3 films. Now Iam set for Christmas again.

  • Happy bloomin' Christmas everyone!

  • Thanks so much - was gutted it wasn't on television this Christmas -we have had a great time watching our favourite Santa.

  • can I just say as a 23 year old who should have grown out of such things, I actually feel quite emotional that the snowman and the boy are reunited every year! Hurrah!

  • thanks so much for uploading. This used to be the cartoon I would watch as a kid to make me feel christmassy.x

  • his a grumpy santa aint he

  • So, We Learn Father Christmas is a Alcholic and heavy Smoker. Merry Christmas To All, And To All A Good Night

  • god that milkmans eager aint he? ha xmas day delivery?

  • So the Snowman didn't die?! Yay!! Ha ha.

  • That's right!

The kid rebuilds him every Christmas so they can go to this party!

I think that was one of the reasons they included this scene! To make up for all the kids they traumatized with The Snowman!

  • Hey, they don't get traumatized in real life when they (their snowmen) melt , so why do they get so worked up about a fake one? Oh yeah, I forgot! It came to life ,so I guess that would be pretty sad!

  • C'mon, were you not even a little bit sad when you first saw "The Snowman"?

    It's pretty sad!

  • Yeah ,I've seen "The Snowman" , and I was a little sad when I saw it the first time ,but now I wouldn't be so sad.

  • Same here!

Mind you, I recentley watched Granpa on Youtube! Remember Granpa?

It's been years since I watched it, and I couldn't stop myself from shedding a tear!

  • Love it! I live in Canada now and bought a copy to show my daughter and they'd Americanised it - no bloomin Christmas it was a merry Christmas. totally ruined the whole story. So now she can see what an English Father Christmas is. Makes me homesick too! Thanks again!

  • Makes me homesick too. Seems like us scousers manage to get around the world quite a bit lol. Hope you and your family enjoy christmas :)

  • Happy bloomin christmas from canada, used to live in Childwall many years ago, still get homesick this time of the year :-)

  • Yeah I get homesick too, and used to live in Walton. Will be again soon, going home in 2009 :D Hope you had a great christmas :D

  • Scouser? What does that mean?

  • A scouser is a person who was born in Liverpool in the United Kingdom.

Scouser was a nickname derived from a variation of a beef stew that was called Scouse, which was, and still is very popular here in Liverpool, hence the name :)

  • Thank you for edifying me! So you live in Liverpool, huh? Cool!

  • You're very welcome :)

Yep, I live in Liverpool again now, moved back here three months ago.

  • @nicog79 Blimey and us people in the potteries better know as stoke get to put up with clayhead lol

  • Aye why not, its not that far away now. Merry Christmas to you too, and cheers for watching :D

  • thanks so much!

  • ahhh... this takes me back to being younger.. it seemed to be on for a few years on christmas eve... it signified end of preparation start of the magic of christmas. i was devastated the year i looked through the radio times and it wasnt listed as being shown... love it, every child should see .....

  • I still adore watching this, This is by far the best version

  • I saw santa's bare botty !

  • I LOVE that line! 'Glad you could make it again! to the party i mean, not your Snowman!'

Lol! such a charming film, reminds me of being little again! Thank you Raymond Briggs, your are a VERY gifted man!

  • fluffy beard lol!

  • Despite the fact theres a number of weeks left til Christmas yet, I loved watching that ^^

  • What is that "another blooming christmas" song called am trying to find it so i can put it on a cd for my little girl

  • It's called Another Blooming Christmas - by Mel Smith. It was released as a single during the very early nineties if my memory serves me, but its very hard to find. I've looked around for you, I can't find it. There are copies for sale on ebay though, thats the only plce I can find it. I hope that helps :)

  • Loved it long ago, love it now.

     Thanks for the memories!

  • I love the song at the end with the kids singing. If anything is going to get you into the Christmas spirit, that would be it.

  • im excited for christmas ;P

  • Wow, that certainly brought back memories :D

I don't care if I saw it too early, but I want to see some of Dianne Jackson's animation contributions again. We all just gotta love this grumpier side of Santa, that's for sure :D

I don't know if you do requests or anything but I wonder if you'd do the same with Granpa? I remember taping it when I was a kid at least, no idea where the video got to and the DVD's not even out and around. I'd love to see that again, surely. :)

  • If I had it, I would certainly upload it but I've never come across it again after seeing it on tv all those years ago. I'm always on the lookout for it, so if I find it, I promise I will upload it :)

  • oh gosh, I cried every time I watched that

  • It's great to see this again, thanks for uploading it. Brings back happy memories. I remember watching this at primary school on the last day before the Christmas holidays.

  • Oh my God this takes me back, and it's so good to watch it again. :-) 5/5

  • Father Christmas was my first English book! Thx!!

  • Thanks to everyone who watched and commented on this video. I would have liked to reply to each of you but, there are far too many comments for me to keep track of. Thanks so much, its very nice of you all to take the time to comment, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)

  • Happy Christmas to all of you enjoying these videos

  • Quite simply the best Christmas programme ever in my opinion. Some great memories. Can't believe Channel 4 always put this on at 7am on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. This should be 7pm stuff even now.

  • Havent seen it since I was a child, and I can still remeber every bloomin second of it! When I was a kid I was so happy that the snowman lives (he melts in the orgianal "The snowman!") That I went straight to the garden to build me own one!

  • Thanks so much for posting this! I had it on video recorded off the tv when i was a kid, no idea were it is now..

"Happy bloomin Christmas to you n'all"

  • please can you put the embeded on, or send it to me or summin

  • lol hes nicked the towel from the las vegas hotel!!! didnt catch onto that wen i was a kid!!! luvit!

  • brilliant cant beat this cartoon..well walt disney comes close

  • I love how the flying scenes look three-dimmensional even though their done in traditional animation.

  • I'd honestly not thought about it before, but now that you mention I can see what you mean. I think the entire cartoon probably has that overall 3D feel.

  • Fantastic! brings back lots of happy memories of christmas eve!

  • It certainly does. Thanks for watching :)

  • Braw i know it in german

  • Cheers :)

  • Do 2 versions exist: ''Father Christmas'' and ''Father Christmas Goes On Holiday''? Is the one you've uploaded a combination of the 2? I did a bit of a Google search and it seems to bring up 2 versions.

  • The Father Christmas, and Father Christmas Goes On Holiday books, were combined to make this cartoon. So as far as I know, this is the only version. You can find it on dvd on most good sites. Hope that helps :)

  • That explains it then, I was confusing the 2 books with the 1 cartoon. On a different note, I love Santa's cockney voice in your version, it suits his character so much. He had a different voice in the one I saw as a kid.

  • Bloomin' Brilliant

  • Glad you liked it :)

  • thanks so much for putting that on there, im 21 now but when me and my bro was young it used to be on every xmas eve at 6pm and we were glued to tv as soon as it started whilst my mam and dad where prepin veg for next day brings back warm happy memories i love christmas so much and cant wait for this 1 too i dont live at home now but me and my fiancee are goin to my parents house this xmas so i hope its on, thankyou xxx hope you have a lovely xmas xxx
