  • Wonderful playing by the trombone, the rest of the band slowed him down far too much.

  • 技術はすごいと思うけど表現は好みじゃないな

  • Wow...this inspired me...I have to play this trombone part for my school's Wind Ensemble. I hope I can play it even remotely close to how well you did. Bravo.

  • very very good I love your sound and ur feelings for this beautiful instrament :) I to am a trombonist I am 13 and youare very goo

  • @Austin1996able learnto spell first

  • Fantastic chops! Well done!

  • Pretty good sixteenth triplets.

  • Please, search at youtube "alejandro suarez hdez solo de trombon" and see me playing this piece

  • I love Rimsky-Korsakoff and all of his work. This solo blows my minds

  • is a Christian Lindberg mouthpiece?

  • i already played the 1st n 2nd movements for my grade exams. trying to learn the 3rd one so i can complete the set n i dont c myself playing like u anywhere in the near future. besides a mispitch n some minor problems, u OWNED the concerto.

  • aÏ la justesse

  • he needs to work on his tone. sounds a little raspy. also he needs work on his lower register. other than that, nicely done

  • Is this kid double tonguing the sixteenth note figures, or just single?

  • @ATAG411 Tripple tounging. To-cu-tuh.

  • muito bom

  • Hehe not bad I'm playin' it with my Tuba kinda hard with it.

  • Где они взяли ноты? Все каденции неправильные, а ведь мог сыграть нормально. Явная недоработка дирижера.

  • All the best to the trombone king....LOVE trombone to death!!!!!!!!!

  • he's got a good embrouchure. most students I've seen of his age group don't give any attention to embrouchures and embrouchure maintenence.

  • wow, well played, especially for someone so young.

  • It might be easier with a valve trombone; that's why Duke Ellington had Juan Tizol in his band; this way the valve trombone could play more complicated section work in unison with the trumpets.

Still, this youngster is very, very impressive and so is his accompaniment.

  • @SatchmoSings the trombone is more than capable of keeping up with any other instruments. Duke Ellington didn't use Juan's valve trombone for that particuliar reason. Players like Wycliffe Gordon & James Morrison play stuff like this 10x as fast, because they have the tonguing down. It's about the tonguing techniques matching up with the slide. Never, that a trombone simply 'can't' play that. Also, a piece of music wouldn't be written and be this widespread if it was 'impossible' to play.

  • Great job! I played that solo years ago in high school and was about your age, loved that piece to death. Brought back many memories for me....

  • give the kid a break people, he's only 17! :)

  • wow, that kid's got a monster tone! I hope he's still playing

  • is he plaing on a christian lindberg mouthpiece?

  • Great performance. It definitely has helped me in preparing for my audition.

  • u should try to be a jazz player cause u sound like it

  • Nice sound but u can use work on those slurs some of them sound like you glissing! im playing this solo this year and this helped me understand it. You may want to try out jazz cause you sound like one! :)

  • Im doing this solo this year! thanks for putting this up so i can listen to it to get the rhythms right! one thing i got to say to make u even better is to work on the slurs cause some of them sound like a gliss

  • some notes played a bit sharpen or flaten...

but i like your tone color^^

    keep it up^^

  • Check your slide movements, your sort of glissing to every note. And I believe in the second movement it says cantabile (song like) so carry that theme through the cadenza.

  • Im doing this piece for solo and ensemble this year. Good job by the way!

  • lol same here good luck i hope i do good with it

  • And He use a Lindberg Series Mouthpiece by Conn :)

  • He plays at Conn 88HCL, with CL2000 rotor :) At same as Christian Lindberg plays :)

But that's bone is gold, and Christian use a silver :)

  • lifeless... good... almost perfect actually... but the next step is making it interesting. that's what separates the likes of us (amateurs) and the likes of christian lindberg

  • Where on Earth is the first movement?

  • The cadenzas are definitely too fast.

  • (it's not jazz)

    Good job.

  • Hi!! Let's say that I am a "trombonist" girl... I think it is very well, but some parts need to be a little more clear. Never the less, you have a very nice sound. Congratulations, this is very good!!!

  • okie dokie...good, but wayyyyy too fast in the cadenzas and in the last movement. in general there's no drama, no suspense...also the fast parts are kinda sloppy, a bit faked...like in the repeated Bb-A-G-F sixteenth notes...work on note lengths, like connecting phrases in the 2nd mvt...but your tone is good

  • anyone know any good tonguing exercises? i need to work a lot on double/triple tonguing

  • Remington for single tongue exercises and all of the Arban's tonguing for your double and triple. Work everything from 60-120 bpm going in 12bpm increments. It is extremely crucial that you are able to hear and do the multiple tonguing slowly so that you can build up fast.

  • im learning to play this piece atm..no way near as good as this though!

opinions please....what are the best trombones to get? i've got a Jupiter atm, but only because it was my first trombone (been playng 3 yrs) so it was cheapest...want a new one now...any suggestions?

    thanks :)

  • Conn 88H

  • If you want a great symphonic trombone for a decent price you should go for the Jupiter 1236 - O. It's got several awards and stuff.. I personaly play a 1236R - O, R = Rose brass bell, O = Open wrap. You can choose between a standard valve and Thayer valve. The Thayer one is better but alot more expensive :P Or you could go with a Bach.. I don't know thier models pretty well so i can't suggest any. Good luck :)

  • wow, thank you :) i'll check them out (Y)

  • If you play a lot of classic music of solo's of this caliber then i think you must be going for a Bach Stradivarius 42 G

    I've got self a stradivarius 42 G LT O

A allround trombone i think you must be buy a edwards of a king.!!

  • thanks :)

  • well, what do you expect? you can't exactly play with a load of water in the bottom...what's he meant to do?!

  • condensation. not water, to be precise lol

  • You have spit too, don't you?

  • what ever you do dont get a Bach Stradivarius unles its over 6 years old Bach fired all the proffesinal makers and hired un experienced people the new ones suck get a KING or a Conn 88H best trombones i ever got

  • please, is it trombone Bach 42BO Stradivarius ?

  • i think not because the open wrap tubes going round a the top and at my trombone the tubes going a littele bit more in a sqaure.

  • my favorite phrase- 4:22

  • what trombone does he play?

  • very good. i might play this for my solo competition

  • I started trombone at 17, but he accomplished trombone at 17! (In my opinion)

  • there aren't but a handful of 17 year old guys in the world that can play that well. i hope you major in music if you go to college. if not your talent is a waste. in fact, you should have a scholarship in the bag. good luck.

  • Very good performance!! Just remember to keep an eye on the written dynamics, and breathing in slurred sections is a no-no too, but again, a very good sound and good performance on the whole! Bravo!

  • Awesome. When I was at your age I performed much worse. Good job!

  • Well played:D But try keep your lips still while playing, it saves your stamina a lot:) But a pencil between your lips, and you thighten it alot:D

  • fantastic. I love your tone. And your performance quality is very impressive. I dont know if it is because you are so young, but everyone seems to want to give you "tips". Kinda funny. Keep it up man

  • I just started playing this and i never realised it was this slow. Is it supposed to be? also is this the second movement as I have another section at the start

  • the 3rd movement in my oppinion is a little 2 fast needs slowing down a tad to show good articulation and phrasing.

this is the 2nd and 3rd movents of the concerto

the 1st moventment is the allergro vivace

  • I am 15 atm i am trying to get that piece of music up to scratch, i can play most of it, but not as good as you (Y) 5*

  • 2:40 min I'm love this!!!!!!!!

  • Haha, the other kids must hate this guy, he's like the only kid who ever solos at this school!

  • @revoltingmexican i can hear why, the band as a whole sounds like ass.

  • It's a little bit to fast. I find it!

But great performance i'm doing this to for my audition by Jeugd Orkest Nederland younger orchestra netherlanths but i don't have enough breath so I could go more cycling.

    Great's Jeroen Ogink

  • Do you play an instrument? You see, if you do not take full breaths, your sound gets bad. The more air you take in, the better your sound.

  • @luverofAMVs well we are all REALLY impressed.

  • I love this song. Can you please tell me the exact name of this concerto so I can find it and buy it to play for my solo and ensemble this year. Thanks. You played it very well.

  • However, I am a trumpet-cornet player, too, and it really sounded like you accidently started single-tongueing those 16th notes. Stick to double-tonuge, sweetie; it's really alot easier.

  • Wonderful use of dynamics! I was impressed! I wonder if there is a Rimsky-Korsakov violin concerto...? I play violin.

  • my favorite part is the oiled bell

    Sounds great

  • wonderful job... great tone & great execution on an obviously difficult peice well done

  • I agree great tone

  • Great job. Your tone is great. I'll be doing this for Solo and ensemble this year and it's really helpful to hear how someone eles would play it.

  • nice job, i really enjoyed it =)

only thing was, th 3rd mov. was played really really fast, thus was much easier to get out of time than if played slower.

Also, the cadenza was played pretty fast. Remember, awesome music doesn't always have to be played super fast to be considered good. Take it easy, listen and enjoy your own music =)

I've played all movements throughout high school (started on first in year 7, went from there), and can say you did a great job!

    Keep up the good work!

  • played this in high school (back when I didn't suck)

    nice job

  • Dude, you have done your best! Just let me remember the time I used to be a trombonist!

  • Life would be better if people like TheApocalypseKid didn't exist...fix yourself man. Very well done, that is a college-freshman level concerto, get some other ones under your wing like, Morceau Symphonique and such, and you'll be miles ahead of the competition.

Keep it up! It's people like you, and all musicians, that make the world a bearable place to live.

Not to mention...I guarentee 90% of the small mistakes were due to the live performance setting, and not to lack of skill

  • Very good! You have a nice sound in your upper register. However, your lowers could use some work. Strive to keep the tone consistent through your entire range.

  • that is a good point, I think I definitely was a little rash in my postings. I definitely always appretiate constructive criticism on my playing because the over all goal is to get better. I guess I was just kinda saying, I don't have anything to say for you, because I'm only a HS trombonist, and I bet some of you guys actually have legitimate training, and it's like a mini-masterclass, for free!

  • yes, this guy is right. all you music snobs all over, that think you know everything need to shut up and just appretiate music. i play trombone myself, and being in high school (like this guy must be), I say he's pretty awesome.

  • I, - and most of us who commented this performance, I believe - don't pretend to know everything, nor did we say we did not appreciate his performance. Actually most of us congratulated him. But saying 'Good job, it was perfect' is as useless as saying 'you suck, you have no talent'. Getting comments from other people is one of the best ways to improve yourself. Those are not negative comments, they're constructive comments. What's the goal of learning an instrument if not to get always better?

  • I'm okay with criticism, but didn't your mothers ever tell you that if you do not have anything nice to say, do not say anything at all?

Anyways, I ENJOYED listening to you play. Some people act like it's making their ears bleed and that you have no talent, and it's myopic to assess someone like that, even if you have proof you can do it better.

  • dude the meaning for a cadenza is to play it how you want so lay off him. but i do agree with jojo above. you should play the music and not worry about what's in the room. focus on whats coming out of your horn. very good job. have you ever played this with the piano version? prepare to have a VERY able pianist

  • hi my friend , tienes muy buen sonido me gusta mucho ver este video felicitaciones.

  • you're like a robot, without emotion

  • I think this is good generally, but it was rushed from the mvt. 2 cadenza onwards, which affected the tone quality and tuning in some places. Also, whose arrangement was that? Those cadenzas are different to the ones I play.

  • the sound that comes out of your horn sounds like that of a professional, keep up the good work man

  • i know him

  • the third movement was so rush

  • You have a future if you stick with that great horn! Congratulations at such an accomplishment at such a young age. I know trombonists who've been playing for YEARS that don't come close.

  • I'm an 18 year old trombonist and I agree that it is a simple piece that takes years to perfect.

The music needs time to breathe in order to enhance its virtuosity and so the faster tempo doesn't lend itself to the concerto at all. Take your time on the 2nd movement's cadenza too, it shows your audience that you are in control and at ease with playing the piece, leading to a better performance.

Keep it up though, good rare breed of instrument, you'll always be wanted!

  • For me is good! I'm fifteen and for me is very good!

  • I know solfege, i'm a music education major. But the fact is #4 for F is extremely inaccurate when it comes to tuning. and it's in the key of Bb minor, not Gb. And I disagree about the first movement, I think 2nd and 3rd are the better movements because they show more virtuosity and the second is beautiful writing for trombone.

  • Why didn't you play the first movement? That is by far the best movement! It was really good but in the second movement watch the unintentional glissandos and in the third, make sure you are consistent with your rhythms.

  • Don't be a girl? Are you kidding me? That's a pretty ridiculous statement. I play trombone and I guarantee you wouldn't notice a difference between my sound a guy's at the same performance level.

Cole - I thought it was great! There were a few things, but overall very nice! At 17, that's impressive. You have a great tone quality and the triple tonguing sounded good! Keep it up!

  • another girl trombonist, yey :) aha....i only know 1 other one :O

  • Hey you!! You're not alone in the world!!, I study trombone and of my partners, 5 are girls!! This is 5 boys and 6 girls!!! Women power!!! jaja

  • I'm playing this on my bass trombone, and I think the second movement could be vvery "smouther", the third movement is very good. You're the soloist, so you decide what the tempo. Just do not play it too fast when your notes aren't very clear enough to play. Although, Very good performance. Congratulations!

  • Overall a pretty good performance. Don't me wrong. A not too difficult piece that is difficult to play musically and fantastically.

But the 2nd movement could be much much smoother, and what is with the tempo in the 3rd movement? You're sacrificing clarity, and musicality for made show off tempo, which for me takes far too much from the performance.

Is it better to play 100 notes a minute with beauty and clarity, than 200 and throw quality out the window?

  • why do you keep using #4 for high F?

  • He's playing in the key of Gb so he needs f as ti... I cant explain it really.

  • Why do u ask unrelevant questions?

Trombone positions is the least thing that matters.

  • very nice tone. very nice triple toungue but I play both mvts. a bit slower especially the third one.

    It's a wonderful concert.

  • very nice. Legato could be a little smoother, with less gliss in places, but alas, I tend to be a perfectionist when it comes to articulation, especially legato :-). good for 17 though. No trill in the beginning of mvt 3??? :-( haha it took a ton of work for me to get it, and it's still tough, no worries. nice tone in most places!

  • absaloutely excellent, as a young trombone player i know the difficulties pieces like this hold, so very well done to you. an excellent performance

  • Interesting cadenza in Mvt. 3. Its similar to the one I play, but with a lot of changes

  • at age 17?! very nice!

  • good tone

  • I'm in this... off somewhere back in the Trumpet section...
