I still think that Barragan was the most powerful Espada in the series. I don't care if it turned out that Yammy was (LMFAO, no... just, no, Kubo...), and I don't care if Ulquiorra was far more powerful than rank 4 is supposed to indicate, and I don't care if Stark was the Primera Espada (even though he's awesome). Barragan IS the most powerful Espada, if just for the fact that he can't be killed by normal circumstances AND he can make his enemies age to death in a mere second.
@xade76 I could not agree with you anymore. You are absolutely right. The only reason Yammy and Starrk outrank him, is because they have higher amounts of spiritual pressure. Tite Kubo said he ranked the espada based on the amount of spiritual pressure they had. This does not mean that rank 1 and 0 are deadlier than 2. In a bleach poll asking who the fans thought the deadliest espada was, Barragan won with over 63% of the votes. Ulquiorra came in 2nd with like 17% of the votes.
Yep, pretty much. I don't know which site or magazine had the poll you're speaking of, but I can see why it would turn out with those results. The only reason Barragan lost was because Hachi used a very clever trick on him, but no other way I can think of would have done the job, since you can't quite beat using an enemy's God-defying powers against them.

People seem to be confusing what a vasto lorde and what an arrancar is. A vasto lorde is the final evolution of hollows and is by far the strongest. Arrancar, however, are hollows that have removed their masks to gain shinigami powers. People act like the arrancar are another stage of evolution and are stronger than vasto lordes. That isn't the case. Also, Harribel was apparently quite weak by vasto lorde standards so that would also explain her defeat in her flashback for people talking of it.
First, Barragan was the King of Hueco Mundo, and he didn't build Las Notches, the whole of Hueco Mundo was his Kingdom of Las Notches. And for those saying Arrancars are stronger than Vasto Lordes, not true. Arrancars come close to their power, but VL's are stronger, even more so when they themselves become Arrancars. And I don't think Barragan was some ultimate evolution Hollow, he was just extremely powerful.

Vasto Lordes are not stronger than arrancar... please go watch harribels flashback, and you will see a pseudo-arrancar defeat her while she is in he vasto lordes form, before being arrancarinized by aizen.
@RothrilSectolith read the manga, harribels flashback is fabricated. And he built pillars around his throne, that doesn't constitute a structure in the sense of a castle or palace. Barragans arrogance made him believe the whole of hueco mundo was his palace.

Starrk outranks barragan because starrk has a higher amount of spiritual pressure than Barragan. Just like yammy outranks starrk, because yammy has a higher spiritual pressure than starrk.

So I didn't mean like I didn't know the vasto lordes were confirmed by Kubo. I already know that. For Vasto Lordes I was hoping they would be stronger like how they were explained.
@Gurimmjaw I know what you mean. But one thing to note is Ulquiorra fought in Hueco Mundo, and the other 3 fought in the real world. Hueco Mundo's air is fresh with reishi which replenishes hollows reiatsu by simply breathing. When Starrk, Harribel, and Barragan were fighting in the real world, It was kind of like fighting under water. No air. Except not with literal air, but with spiritual energy.
@RothrilSectolith Well, I guess that true, but even the captains have limits on their power in the real world. Just with the vasto lordes I was expecting something more. I hope one day we get to see more vasto lordes.

@RothrilSectolith That only works on weak hollows, and even at that the only thing it does is feed them it has no effect on the much stronger arrancar level hollows.
@amartinez97 No, it allows weak hollows to survive, thats how potent it is. The small hollow creatures that are too weak to eat spirits or other hollows survive on the reishi in the air alone. The reishi being potent enough for chad to be able to upgrade to his left arm of diablo, and have the right arm of the giant, it also increased his speed to the level where he could keep up with a form espada's sonido.

Can you maybe answer this question? My fav espada is Nnoitra and when zaraki defeated him his body didn't dissapear. So is he still alive? I mean tesla was cut in half and he was still alive aswell because he cried when Nnoitra died.
Also Grimmjow was defeated and his body didn't dissapear and later he came back.
@TyrantDNA hmmm... it is possible that grimmjow may still be alive, but im not sure. Espada 9 also died and his body did not disappear, as zommari was standing over it and talking to himself before byakuya showed up.I think it might just be a small overlooked error in the show, that they don't have all the dieing espada disintegrate.

@J3umpyJ3oObZz ulquiorra had had bad wings protruding out, which would also change his rip and spin structure. If you saw his skeleton he would look very inhuman. Barragan however is 100% human. No differences whatsoever. If you took my skin off and organs out, and left only my skeleton, am I any less human? no, Im still 100% human.

starrk stronger. he took on 4 captains, and took out three. barragan and yammy took on two. and the others esparda took on one captain if i'm not mistaken. starrk would win if he using his guns and keep he's distance using he's speed. starrk is faster than barragan.
@biggdogg33 Yes, Barragan took on two captains, and starrk took on 4 captains. Because 4 captains attacked starrk. In the end, starrk was only beaten by one captain. And that shunsui. And shunsui didn't even use his bankai. Starrk wasn't injured or tired by the other 3 captains, and was almost at full strength and still lost to shunsui. Barragan however, was defeated by his own power, cause its the only way they could win. But starrk doesn't have kidou like hatchi.
@S3aCa1mRa1n No he doesn't... Because we have never seen starrk's original form. He was already an Arrancar in his past before aizen. Look at the flashback and youll see the mask fragment of the wolf-jaw bone around his neck. When he split his soul with lillynette he became an arrancar. It never shows what his original form looks like in the flashback in the manga or anime.

@biggdogg33 I know, cause shunsui killed lylinette. Lylinette was the wolves, and as long as she is alive starrk can make unlimited wolves. But Shunsui took on starrk and lylinette, and killed the wolves single-handedly, and then he beat starrk in a one on one dual-sword fight.

The guns were lylinette and the wolves were lylinette, shunsui by chance happened to kill all the wolves whilst lylinette was in control of them, ending the production of wolves, since there was no one to control them. The wolves originate as materialized spiritual energy emanating from the bandoliers on starrk's outfit, lylinette then takes control of the wolves. He can keep making wolves until he runs out of reiatsu or lylinette dies

Tite kubo himself even stated in the bleach character databook 2 masked, that most espada were vasto lordes level. In harribels flashback she confirms she's one.
@halofreakymaster If you are referring to Ichigos 100% hollow transformation when you say "full release" Then no, Barragan would have a chance. Full Hollow Ichigo fights full term brute melee, and doesn't use intellect. More or less, full hollow ichigo would fly right into barragans respira without a second thought, and get aged to death.All that power is useless, when a deranged conscious is using it. A spherical shield of respira would make barragan impervious to any and all damage

Here's some food for thought, I think he did not have the scar during his rule over Hueco Mundo, I wont argue he is doubless one of the strongest hollows around, so something so strong must have fought him once that that Scar remained. Now as you pointed out some other time, he got killed by his own ability, who in your personal opinion could give him a permanent scar ? It is present in his Espada and his Resurection from, think it was Sosuke ?
@anbucaptain3 Perhaps the scars did not appear until his arrancarification, and were from wounds he may have received dozens or even hundreds of years ago? This is purely assumption, but I do believe that Barragan is probably the oldest known hollow in hueco mundo, near Yamamotos age, who is over 2,000 years old. So im sure in barragans estimated thousands of years, he could have gotten those wounds. Yamamoto himself is covered in scars, and we all know how powerful he is.

Therefor starrk and yammy have a higher reiatsu than Barragan does. That is all their espada ranks stand for, is spiritual pressure. It does not rank them on who is the deadliest.

@blatantlyable The hougyoku is not needed to reach vasto lordes.. the hougyoku was used to make more advanced arrancar. Vasto lord is a level of hollow evolution, not an arrancar.

@blatantlyable If a Adjunchas level hollow has a piece bitten off of him/her, than they can not evolve into a vasto lordes. Just like if a Menos Grande has a piece bitten off, then the menos grande can never become a menos adjunchas. Menos grande (gillian), Menos Adjunchas, and Menos Vasto Lordes are all levels of hollows. An arrancar is when any level of Menos removes their mask to become more like a shinigami.

Reiryoku is the power inside a person, it is 100% everything they have, reiatsu is the power they release and use. No matter how many times you transform, reiryoku levels dont change at all. Rieatsu does, reiryoku does not.
@LightningHaki Because yammy has a special ability to gain reiatsu just by merely sleeping or eating, and through this, has attained a higher reiatsu than starrk or barragan, thats why. Being 0 doesn't make him the strongest, just means he has the highest amount of spirit energy. The same applies to starrk, being number 1 does not necessarily mean that #1 can beat #2.
@regiman222 Ive never said barragan killed himself in a literal sense. I have only used it metaphorically as it was of his own actions that he died. technically, he did kill himself, cause it was his power that he unleashed, and his actions + his power led to his own death. Yes, we all know he did not do this intentionally, but to get the point across that it was ones own power that killed them, saying killing themselves metaphorically can rightfully be used.
The way you've put it Barragan is like Omega from Doctor Who, his body is only held together by the energy he exudes and his thoughs, that and he can manipulate time itself (though only forwards) which as a time lord Omega could do aswell. Also you no matter what you have to like him a little because he was the 1st Arancarr to try take a shot at Aizen.

I think the Espada were cheated... I mean come on, Not a single Shinigami (That we know of yet) has died from the winter wars? WTF, I think Ulquiorra performed well in combat and would've liked to see how he did against the Captains, Stark did extremely well taking on 2 of the strongest caps at the same time, and 2 vizard caps, but Barrgan and Halibel got cheated, BAD. Syazel got cheated but I think Ulquiorra overall was cheated the worst as he KILLED Ichigo twice yet he somehow came back bs lol
@witchboy870 His respira can expand to roughly 1 kilometer in diameter around barragan. and stay like that if he so desired it, as well, it can move at immense speeds, even faster than captain soi-fon. Also, barragan can control his repsira speed, making it slower or faster if he wishes it.

@Svartdoden I wouldn't say weak, Barragan fought 2 captain level shinigami (yes, hatchi, after 100 years of training from being a lieutenant, +his hollow powers), and struggled absolutely none. He got attacked one time, and that is because he let hatchi create that kidou cage, thinking soi-fon couldn't use her bankai again, he would have sonidod away had he known their plan. In his entire battle, he was only injured once, by a bankai thats meant to be a 1 hit killer, but it barely injured him.

@Svartdoden Yes, by his own power, because no other power would be able to harm him. Hatchi only has his specialized kidou type (referring to the teleponing of the hand)due to his being a vizard. Tessai's forbidden teleportation kidou would have taken to long to activate, the respira would have already taken its full effect. There is one other way to stop barragan.. well.. not barragan, but his respira. Orihime reverses time with her power. She can reverse the respira if it afflicts someone.
barragan is the coolest of all the espada no question about it... not even ulquiora can match him

I don't care if it turned out that Yammy was (LMFAO, no... just, no, Kubo...), and I don't care if Ulquiorra was far more powerful than rank 4 is supposed to indicate, and I don't care if Stark was the Primera Espada (even though he's awesome). Barragan IS the most powerful Espada, if just for the fact that he can't be killed by normal circumstances AND he can make his enemies age to death in a mere second.

@xade76 I could not agree with you anymore. You are absolutely right. The only reason Yammy and Starrk outrank him, is because they have higher amounts of spiritual pressure. Tite Kubo said he ranked the espada based on the amount of spiritual pressure they had. This does not mean that rank 1 and 0 are deadlier than 2. In a bleach poll asking who the fans thought the deadliest espada was, Barragan won with over 63% of the votes. Ulquiorra came in 2nd with like 17% of the votes.

Yep, pretty much. I don't know which site or magazine had the poll you're speaking of, but I can see why it would turn out with those results. The only reason Barragan lost was because Hachi used a very clever trick on him, but no other way I can think of would have done the job, since you can't quite beat using an enemy's God-defying powers against them.

People seem to be confusing what a vasto lorde and what an arrancar is. A vasto lorde is the final evolution of hollows and is by far the strongest. Arrancar, however, are hollows that have removed their masks to gain shinigami powers. People act like the arrancar are another stage of evolution and are stronger than vasto lordes. That isn't the case. Also, Harribel was apparently quite weak by vasto lorde standards so that would also explain her defeat in her flashback for people talking of it.

First, Barragan was the King of Hueco Mundo, and he didn't build Las Notches, the whole of Hueco Mundo was his Kingdom of Las Notches. And for those saying Arrancars are stronger than Vasto Lordes, not true. Arrancars come close to their power, but VL's are stronger, even more so when they themselves become Arrancars. And I don't think Barragan was some ultimate evolution Hollow, he was just extremely powerful.
Stark was stronger, by shear reiutsu alone.

@Gurimmjaw I know what you mean. But one thing to note is Ulquiorra fought in Hueco Mundo, and the other 3 fought in the real world. Hueco Mundo's air is fresh with reishi which replenishes hollows reiatsu by simply breathing. When Starrk, Harribel, and Barragan were fighting in the real world, It was kind of like fighting under water. No air. Except not with literal air, but with spiritual energy.

@amartinez97 No, it allows weak hollows to survive, thats how potent it is. The small hollow creatures that are too weak to eat spirits or other hollows survive on the reishi in the air alone. The reishi being potent enough for chad to be able to upgrade to his left arm of diablo, and have the right arm of the giant, it also increased his speed to the level where he could keep up with a form espada's sonido.

Espada 9 also died and his body did not disappear, as zommari was standing over it and talking to himself before byakuya showed up.I think it might just be a small overlooked error in the show, that they don't have all the dieing espada disintegrate.

And shunsui didn't even use his bankai. Starrk wasn't injured or tired by the other 3 captains, and was almost at full strength and still lost to shunsui. Barragan however, was defeated by his own power, cause its the only way they could win. But starrk doesn't have kidou like hatchi.

Look at the flashback and youll see the mask fragment of the wolf-jaw bone around his neck. When he split his soul with lillynette he became an arrancar. The current espada are arrancars that aizen created, aside from starrk, who made himself an arrancar by splitting his soul into two. In all the times we've seen starrk.. He was in his arrancar form. We have never seen his original hollow form.

Here's some food for thought, I think he did not have the scar during his rule over Hueco Mundo, I wont argue he is doubless one of the strongest hollows around, so something so strong must have fought him once that that Scar remained. Now as you pointed out some other time, he got killed by his own ability, who in your personal opinion could give him a permanent scar ? This is purely assumption, but I do believe that Barragan is probably the oldest known hollow in hueco mundo, near Yamamotos age, who is over 2,000 years old. So im sure in barragans estimated thousands of years, he could have gotten those wounds. Yamamoto himself is covered in scars, and we all know how powerful he is.

@blatantlyable The hougyoku is not needed to reach vasto lordes.. the hougyoku was used to make more advanced arrancar. Vasto lord is a level of hollow evolution, not an arrancar.

@blatantlyable If a Adjunchas level hollow has a piece bitten off of him/her, than they can not evolve into a vasto lordes. Just like if a Menos Grande has a piece bitten off, then the menos grande can never become a menos adjunchas. Menos grande (gillian), Menos Adjunchas, and Menos Vasto Lordes are all levels of hollows. An arrancar is when any level of Menos removes their mask to become more like a shinigami.

Reiryoku is the power inside a person, it is 100% everything they have, reiatsu is the power they release and use. No matter how many times you transform, reiryoku levels dont change at all. Rieatsu does, reiryoku does not.

@LightningHaki Because yammy has a special ability to gain reiatsu just by merely sleeping or eating, and through this, has attained a higher reiatsu than starrk or barragan, thats why. Being 0 doesn't make him the strongest, just means he has the highest amount of spirit energy. The same applies to starrk, being number 1 does not necessarily mean that #1 can beat #2.

@regiman222 Ive never said barragan killed himself in a literal sense. I have only used it metaphorically as it was of his own actions that he died. technically, he did kill himself, cause it was his power that he unleashed, and his actions + his power led to his own death. Yes, we all know he did not do this intentionally, but to get the point across that it was ones own power that killed them, saying killing themselves metaphorically can rightfully be used.

The way you've put it Barragan is like Omega from Doctor Who, his body is only held together by the energy he exudes and his thoughs, that and he can manipulate time itself (though only forwards) which as a time lord Omega could do aswell. Also you no matter what you have to like him a little because he was the 1st Arancarr to try take a shot at Aizen.

I think the Espada were cheated... I mean come on, Not a single Shinigami (That we know of yet) has died from the winter wars? WTF, I think Ulquiorra performed well in combat and would've liked to see how he did against the Captains, Stark did extremely well taking on 2 of the strongest caps at the same time, and 2 vizard caps, but Barrgan and Halibel got cheated, BAD. Syazel got cheated but I think Ulquiorra overall was cheated the worst as he KILLED Ichigo twice yet he somehow came back bs lol

@witchboy870 His respira can expand to roughly 1 kilometer in diameter around barragan. and stay like that if he so desired it, as well, it can move at immense speeds, even faster than captain soi-fon. Also, barragan can control his repsira speed, making it slower or faster if he wishes it.

I mean, aizen is a very elaborated character, very smart... why couldnt see that baraggan was superior to starrk and ranked them in that way? no sense...
that bleack wiki is filled with a lot of freaks i guess, they waste so much time thinking who beats who, when surely it took less than 1 minute for kubo to make that rank.

Well, he put yammy ahead of starrk. You know why yammy outranks starrk? because yammy has the ability to gain mass amounts of spirit energy just by eating and sleeping. Yammy has more spirit energy than starrk. does that mean that yammy can beat starrk? no it does not. starrk would beat yammy.

And You are right, Starrk is one of the more intelligent espada, along with ulquiorra and sayzel. But of all the espada, barragan has the most wisdom, and due to his wisdom, has accumulated a fair intellect aswell. even if he is arrogant. But what makes barragan the most powerful, is not necessarily his power, but it is his respira, as it is the deadliest ability in all of bleach.

@Svartdoden I wouldn't say weak, Barragan fought 2 captain level shinigami (yes, hatchi, after 100 years of training from being a lieutenant, +his hollow powers), and struggled absolutely none. He got attacked one time, and that is because he let hatchi create that kidou cage, thinking soi-fon couldn't use her bankai again, he would have sonidod away had he known their plan. In his entire battle, he was only injured once, by a bankai thats meant to be a 1 hit killer, but it barely injured him.

@Svartdoden Yes, by his own power, because no other power would be able to harm him. Hatchi only has his specialized kidou type (referring to the teleponing of the hand)due to his being a vizard. Tessai's forbidden teleportation kidou would have taken to long to activate, the respira would have already taken its full effect. There is one other way to stop barragan.. well.. not barragan, but his respira. Orihime reverses time with her power. She can reverse the respira if it afflicts someone.
