  • This guy is great

  • Timeless great advice

  • i didnt know they had fitness back then

  • better than new tv shows. no music fancy BS sets. and laughing ....stupid acting hosts. just no nonsense

  • I wish i can go to college and have a enthusiastic Professor like Jack Lalanne. I bet you a million dollars 90 percent of students attending his class would pay attention and ace every test.

  • This works. I know because I did this before and got up to over 100lbs for the first time in my life. Before this I would just eat junk, drink soda, and smoke like a pheen. And I was jobless so I just sat around on the couch all day. I thought that since I'm so skinny I don't need to exercise but when I started I gained weight fast. It's been proven that people who exercise are at a more healthier weight.

  • R.I.P. Mr. Lalanne

  • People make fun of me as well because am thin, yet I am very fit, i eat lots of healthy foods and I can lift quite heavy weights at the gym, some machines especially leg one i can set it almost to the maximum weight.

  • Rip, Jack Lalanne, Founding Father of fitness.

My dad knew his son, and had met Jack Lalanne many times... I wish I could have had the honor. :(

  • you have to work out everyday because after when you eat the food will move to the right places in ur body

  • R.I.P

  • RIP Jack, may your message live on.

  • What a nice change of pace. So many people don't realize that it can be just as hard to gain weight as it is to lose weight.

  • @healingchannel1 If not harder.

  • @Ih8thePolice lol, tell me about it. I'm starting to think my scale is broken; it's stuck at 99 pounds. :P

  • @healingchannel1 lol hes right though, eat 3 meals consisting of protein everyday and you should be gaining 10's of pounds every other month..

  • @Ih8thePolice

You've got to have a big appetite to consistently gain weight while eating only three times a day. Most people do better when eating 6 times a day, each time getting at least 20 grams of protein. Otherwise, they generally gain very little and bitch about being "hardgainers" all because they don't eat or train hard enough

  • @tgtennis Eating too much speeds up your disgestive system and metabolism making you actually lose weight. You can eat several meals a day or 3 solid ones consisting of protein and never gain weight, I take it you've never had that problem.

  • @Ih8thePolice

In my experience, it is far, far easier to eat 6 meals of 700-800 calories than to try to polish of three 1500 calorie meals per day with a decent amount of protein. Most top coaches (Rip, Tate, Dan John, etc) agree with this assessment - very, very few major strength athletes held themselves to few meals per day. An improved metabolism also helps keep the fat off you, creating a leaner bulk and very possibly funneling your calories into muscle more efficiently.

  • @Ih8thePolice

    (cont)

I'm taking you meant "too much" as "with too much frequency" rather than the number of calories, of course. Reaching a caloric excess is the key to gaining weight (carb cycling might get around this, though) so the first thing to do is find whatever meal structure allows you to eat more than your standard calorie intake (the one that maintains your current body weight - mine's 3000 calories) and work with it. For most people, that's easiest with nearly constant eating.

  • nutritionists today would tell you the same thing that jack is saying way back then.. Only difference is people are actually listening now. What a brilliant man.

  • he knew it all before everyone else did

  • Jack Lalanne + Bishop Fulton Sheen = "MAKES YOU INTO A REAL MAN"

  • Love this guy, his advice will never grow old

  • haha he said kids cut down on your smoking

  • this stuff is solid. not the crap muscle magazines and idiots turn out these days that is needlessly complex and expensive to get access to.

  • hes explains himself so well with no fancy sound effects or camera effects just pure talking.

  • This body of mine isn't made of coffee and cigarettes haha. Jack was awesome. These days they'd straight up tell you smoking and coffee are bad but back then even doctor's smoked and drank right in the office.

  • awesome

  • This guy is great. You see, he's not like these other modern fags who say, "ok here is my shake I drink for the gym everyday with 2000 calories". He applies the facts, and I'm convinced I will gain. I'm about 6'1" 180 lbs. or so and want to get up to 200 lbs.... wish me luck... : )

  • I can't believe he used to be underweight. I'm floating in the same boat and I'm going to try these tips, Jack ftw!

  • I LOVE how his demonstrations aren't some fucking CGI screen with glowing font. He wrote this stuff out with a magic marker.

  • Damn this is so good , jack rocks , nowadays u won't see shows like this :| and that sucks .

    jack ftw !

  • Jack are right. You have to eat natural good rawfood and train every day.

  • Jack is the No. 1 in motivational speaking about health and fitness. He motivates me to believe in Rawfood as the main food. Paul C. Bragg inspired him to change his nutrition from sugar to vegan rawfood for 6 years. Then he was 21 years young and looked like Tarzan.

  • @RonaldinhoC12 Rest is important for growth. Aside from possible cardio adaptations overtraining is probably what's holding you back. You break down muscle repeatedly while not giving it a chance to recover, and you're burning off the caloric excess you're trying to create. So you maintain.

  • a glass of half and half!!! Wow they loved their milk creamy back then lol

  • I was 67kg with 189cm, now alfter 4months 72kg with just smoking weed once a day and going 3 times a week to gym.

  • you, sir, are and idioit

  • I was 57 kg with 181 cm after 3 months by eating normal food and going 4 times a week to gym im 66kg..I haven't reached my goal yet -70 kg but im sure I will :D btw I'm 14 years old :D.

  • oops i accidently thumbed downed ur comment..i wanted to give thumb up :S sorry m8

  • @and1fer dont lift weights at such a young age, wait till you turn 18 then hit it hard in the gym. The best thing for kids under 18 would be doing natural excerises like swimming, pull ups etc. All the best.

  • @fIRsTRATmAN thnx a lot bro but I'm already addicted to it and i try to do all my excercises by sitting somewhere because liftin weights on my feet would also make me not grow up anymore :D

  • @and1fer No worries bro. I said you shouldnt be lifting weights, read my post - i never said anything about liftin weights on your feet. I said you need to do pull up's (chin ups) with ur own body weight. It doesnt matter whether u lift weights sitting or standing up, your putting tremendous stress on your joints when there supposed to be growing. Is it worth working out now be'coz ur addicted & losing inches on your height? i dont think so.Do push up's, chin up's, dips & swim.

  • @fIRsTRATmAN

If you're talking about the theory that weight training stunts growth, it is a complete myth and has been proven countless times, including by the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics). It will instead, do the exact opposite. It will enhance growth, because muscle adds strength to your bones and joints, allowing them to develop much faster.

  • @and1fer Part 2.Chin up's is probably the best exercise for back. I always start my back with 50 chin ups. U will have a massive thick back doing them,Do these natural excercies till u hit 18 -1.Chin ups 2. Dips 3. Push up's4.Squats.u can continue with chin ups with ur weight training later on this will give u tremendous strength & u will have a solid foundation to start weight training heavy. Do these excerices without any weights just ur own body weight.

  • @fIRsTRATmAN What's a "natural" exersize? My back workout is made from chin ups, standing barbell rows, lat pulldowns, and dumbell rows. is there such a thing as an unnatural exersize?

  • @Chaaarge well what i mean by natural exercise is exercising with ur own bodyweight eg.chips ups, push ups, dips etc if someones under the age of 18 its best to do these natural exercises.ur back routine seems pretty good, all those exercises done with right intensity, weight & form will give u good mass.Do chips with a wide grip, some with a narrow & u can move your hands towards u & away. Chip ups is the best, i had huge lats.Arnold always started his back routine doing 50 chin ups.

  • @Chaaarge sorry typo error i meant chin ups instead of chip ups...lol im really tired after a long days work. Take care if u need any advice or get stuck in let me know. Peace

  • @Chaaarge behind neck presses etc.

  • @and1fer Part 4. These excersies will not only strengthen your joints but is proven to increase height aswell. Anyway bro its up to u whether u take my advice or not. Im not here to take ur money or anything just trying to help.

  • @fIRsTRATmAN

You can lift weights at an age younger than 18, I know plenty of people who have done it and have seen only positive results. It will not affect the fact that you are still going through puberty, and it WILL NOT stunt your growh. That, my friend, has been proven to be a complete myth. The only thing you need t watch out for is overtraining, which could either be training too often or training too hard, and taking too many supplements.

  • @jreily88 - Very true! Strength training (done correctly) has been proven safe for youth.

  • im 19 weigh 95 pounds..im so smal & i hate it

  • I feel ya. Im 19 weigh 151 and Im 6' 3" (which isn't good btw). Im hoping once I get into boot camp Ill have gained some weight. I believe it to be much harder to gain weight than to lose it. Can cost a lot more.

  • I love this guys :)

  • i like this guy.

makes me wish i lived in the old days lol

  • @scjason420 i wish i was living in the old days too but because im black i wether not take that chance

  • @scjason420 he's still alive and healthy and works out every morning

  • He's got the hang bad. Good stuff.

  • this mans a genius

  • exercise burns calories doesn't gain them

  • why does his left arm keep moving up and down

  • i do stress alot at school

  • just wait till u start doing uni.

  • uni?

  • I have to accept that I'm not sleeping well...

  • i love this guy he is the best

  • This dude must be on amphetamines 24/7. He's too energetic. Very good advice, though.

  • Can u exercise too much?? I play HELLA soccer... And I'm super "skinny"

  • yea you can look up "overtraining"

  • It's not exercising too much, it's you're burning more calories than you're taking in.

  • wait.. how can he be 40 to 50 pounds underweight? Look at his size.. what he said may be a lie.

  • he was when he was 14 or so years old.

  • ignorant

  • Butter is the only healthy fat !!!!

  • no way! olive oil, fish oils omega 3's todays dairy is poisen i dont care if the cows are grain fed or grass fed even the grass is contaminated there is now need to eat any dairy theres more calcium in green leafy veggies then milk stop drinking milk and eating dairy and see how much better you feel in a month, you reduce inflammation in your joints congestion , digestion problems etc

  • How about peanut butter, a tablespoonful before bedtime?? Sometimes when I get hunger pain in the middle of the night I go for peanut butter.

  • Organic Butter from grass fed cows is excellent for you! We have over-hyped the dangers of cholesterol! Know the truth!

  • cholesterol in excess is bad

  • if you do cardiovascular exercise it's really not a big deal

  • a jump suit

  • Dude I don't think that matter

  • alot of the underweight people have problems when gaining weight because of lack of nutrition .. and they also have a fast metabelisem , but look [ breakfast ] 2 good egg sandwiches , [ with 2 cups of milk ] lunch [ banquet meals such ass bonelss pork rib with mash potatoes and corn [ quantity of them (take 2 ) afternoon [ cups of milk with bannanas and strawberry and dinner [ white rice and meat u gotta force urself sometime , be aggressive , be your own coach , force urself .

  • i went from 150 to 190 :)

he's right about excersising everyday. If i even go a week without lifting, i loose like 5 pounds

  • y does he keep saying owerweight girls or underweight girls..is dis for girls?? den i better stop watchin dis video!!

  • there is nothing wrong with caffeine in moderation. in fact, you can have EVERYTHING, including poison, in moderation.

  • A lot of people need to take it easy. I'm 5.10 and 142 pounds. Yes I'd like a bit more, maybe 15 at the most. But I'm already in the normal healthy zone on the BMI chart. Some people are just thin, desended from long distnce runners perhaps. We don't need to develop a complex just because the advertisers tell us we should be bigger.

  • no not because advertisers, its for the guy who wants to call your number cause he is a puss and knows he can take you.

  • These videos are the best!

  • wow he was really ahead of his time, Most of the things he said are very true. Anyone know how old he was in this video? His arms look great

  • I used to be underweight, too, even though I ate a ton! This is what's been helping me gain:

    1) I eat as much good fat as I want (butter, coconut oil, nuts, avocados, olive oil).

    2) I eat plenty of animal protein at each meal.

    3) I've stopped eating refined carbohydrates.

    4) I eat lots of non-starchy veggies (instead of high starch carbs).

    5) I eat raw fruit in moderation.

I hope this is helpful, and wish you luck!

  • siguencias, I replied to you, but it didn't go under your message for some reason.

  • how many times a day do u eat coz when i first started forcing myself to eat so i cud put on weight it be like 4 times a day so try and eat 4 times day big potions like in the morning i would eat 6 slices of toast and cornflakes den drink whole milk and also eat heavily before bed

  • and also if you have nuffin to do like try stay at home as much as you eat then go sleep wake eat go back to sleep it worked for me and eat foods like white rice, ptotatoes, scrambled eggs and have mc donalds with their chocolate milkshake twice a week that all worked for me beacause ive gone up 2 dress sizes

  • those ppl who are thin are often ectomorphs...its very hard for us to gain weight although its always described as very simple!

    metabolism is another big problem!

im 17 about 6 foot and weigh about 54kgs (dunno how much pounds that would be)

  • I'm 14. 115 pounds. i have very skinny arms

  • You got plenty of time, you'll get bigger. Go lift weights and eat well if you really want to get bigger... I wish I began lifting weights when I was your age.

  • jack forgot to mention another cause of not being able to gain weight is your body's metabolism

  • If you're gaining weight throughout your body, it will be distributed to your face as well.

Especially if you try his facial exercises

  • You know this guy use to bang a lot of chicks back then. Not too many guys worked out back then.

  • my body didn't finish developing through puberty considering im only 13 but is being 5'1 and 86 pounds a good weight for my age?

  • thanks

  • rice rice rice

    pasta and bread help too

  • i am 6'3 ,i am from India and i am very thin i took some supplement's but it didnt worked for me ,,, can any1 help what's the exact time when 1 starts feelin that his body has started to build i mean in the gym...... thank u

  • you dont want to be building muiscle if you arnet finished growing yet it may stunt your growth the key is what th fella in this vid is saying

  • im 15 6 foot 62kg is that alright?

  • @iluvawhip YES! im 15 155cm and 34kgs! You are NOT underweight LOL

  • Very informative video!

  • I'm 14, 210 lbs and 6 ft. and I have really strong leg and calf muscles (can squat 250lbs and 200 lbs leg extension) and a really strong upper body but not very big muscles.(in the upper body).

  • i'm 15 and way 110lbs

  • same bro.....and my favorite bike is haybusa lol

  • lmao im 15, 111 and i love busas too....gixxer fan tho

  • Jack lalane was such a pioneer. Everything hes says is still true today. You could tell he was in awesome shape. Thats the reason why hes still healthy and youthfull to this day. Yeah i use to be like most of you guys to I was like 120 pounds in highschool . I'm now 190 pounds at 5/7. It took alot of hard work though. plus you gotta be consistent or you wont see no gains period.

  • straight up

  • Listen attentively to the last 10 seconds (where he quickly tells you the main part of what to do: how to eat).

As for the rest, it's just "don't eat junkfood and be proactive"

  • Here's another reason why some under weight people don't gain weight and struggling is because they might have parasitic worms in their gut, and they doesn't notice that. It's just sitting there inside your stomach and absorbing all the nutrients that otherwise for you to use. It's really deceptive.

  • im almost five eight and 110 pounds...yea its pretty frustrating when u barely gain weight even with hitting the gym and eating more

  • I'm female, 5'7, 107 lbs :(

  • 107lbs is nothing, I'm a guy that's 5'7 and I'm about 130lbs.. Skinny as hell too, I can see my ribcage easily..

  • HA I used to be 6'1 130... Now I am about 175 - 185...

  • thats hot..what u taking abt..

  • I'm 6'7" and 104lbs are you single?

  • wow the strange thing for me is that im 106 lbs (male) 5'7" and i have no lorwebody muscle at all..Like my upperbody is fine but my waist size is 26.5 and i have no calf muscle and my shoe size is like 7.5...anddddim a freshman in highschool

  • im a female 5'6 and wat 100lbs i feel your pain=[

  • tryin eating 3,000 calores per day...u will gain weight then.

  • er...I ride my bike EVERYWHERE and need to eat 5,000 or so to stay at 180 6'2''

  • im not disapproving of you smoking and all the other stuff, thats your bitness.

  • Peanut butter with Honey, sounds great.

  • xxxclusive LMAO

  • i hope this will work for me.

  • Grilled food is good to gain weight with. Grilled chicken etc

  • 7 lbs of muscle or fat? or both?

  • 3 meals? i eat 7 and i barely gain weight

  • HAHAHA, u have a fucking tape worm helping ya

  • Jack is the greatest.

  • wow cool thanks, i been stuck at 110 pounds for 2 years now and i tried really hard to gain weight. i do exercise regularly. i also drink lots of milk, add extra saturated fat to my meals, eat lots of proteins, and sleep alot. however, i don't really gain weight at all. i guess im just not up for this.

  • Thank you Jack from one of your current students!

  • this guys a g

  • big help, this guy knows what hes talking about

  • 5'9 130lbs

  • I graduated High School at 5'8.5 133 pounds.

I'm 29 years old today and 175 lbs. I could eat anything I wanted and never gain a pound until I was about 25 or 26, that's when my metabolism slowed down. Don't worry is what I'm trying to say.

  • Alright LockoHappyday, I was 5'9 and 126 pounds before I started weight lifting. Weight lifting got me to eat more and put the weight in the right place (sounds familiar, right?) Now I am over 170 pounds.

  • 5'7, 100lbs O.O

  • same :(((( i thought im the only one ! life sucks for me....

  • 5'9" 126

  • i'm 6'4 160 wtf!!!!!!

  • he claims that nervousness is a cause of weight loss...i agree...but how the hell can you prevent that?

    plz reply

  • He stated in the video nervousness comes from poor nutrition and lack of exercise.

  • I think by nervousness he really was referring to stress. Stress causes release of the hormone cortisol into the body. It's supposed to keep you going and try to counteract the stress that stress puts on the body. Cortisol is also catabolic (bad for muscles), and tries to keep amino acids in the blood instead of in muscles.

So, get more sleep, relax, manage your time better, and eat your B vitamins. There are some anti-cortisol supplements out there, but their effectivness is debatable.

  • What kind of stuff has B vitamins? Fruit?

I always forget what vitamins are in different foods :(

  • I'm 14, I'm 95 lbs and I'm about 5 foot 7.. they say your stomach is only about the size of your fist, if i eat much more than that my stomach starts to hurt, but also im hungry more often, so i get what is nearest to me- which isn't always that healthy because both my parents and my bother are all over weight, and they dont eat as healthy as they should (yet they always say they are eating healthy) poptarts arent a food group xP is there a way i can fix this?

  • 5'11 138

  • thanks for posting this. I'm one of those underweight ppl! :D

  • 3 Meals a day is not as good as 6 smaller meals a day because smaller portions digest faster and easier and more of the good nutrients from the food will go to the correct places rather than coming back out.

  • i want to gain i'm 6'2 and 170

  • I need to gain weight...im 6"1 145 pounds

  • 5'8" and 125 :\

  • I used to be really, really, really skinny! I now eat 3 BIG healthy meals a day!!! (Breakfast is a must!!!) The healthier the meal the better cos the food will stick to ya rather than pass through ya!!! Having big meals helps to slow the metabolism!!! Lalanne knows his stuff. Plus stick to short workout sessions of only compound exercises!!!

  • How much have you improved?

Message me, dude, for the love of God. xD

  • I was 125 pounds in my early 20s i'm now 28 and 189(lb) but have been 196(lb). I'm 6". It took 3-6months to see good results. Here's some tips: 1-Stop weighing yourself all the time or just throw away the scales. 2-If you only have to do one exercise do SQUATs. They recruit the most muscle fibers so release loads of the bodies natural growth hormone. More so than any other exercise.

  • 3-Do SPRINTS (stairs are the best) for the same reasons as above. Skinny sprinters are rare. 4-Only work the chest, back and most importantly legs with compound exercises. 5-Keep training sessions short (less than 45min) and intense. So do only 1/2 sets for each of the three body parts. 6-Rest for up to 2-3mins b/w sets. 7. And as Jack says 3 big healthy meals and you can forget supplements!!! Sorry Swaldo2000. I feel like I've hijacked your video!!
