  • instant goosebumps, best song ending in history of music

  • I love this ending. This ending ALWAYS sends a chill and with such a feel of melancholy.

  • This ending part is one of my fav Dream Theater parts ever, great feeling to it.

  • the end of this song is so beautiful, the entire song as well, i love dream theater for these songs too, the music they`re making is awesome, hope they`ll win the grammy on sunday, they`re deserving it!!!!!

  • I swear I shiver when I listen to this...

  • Thanks for this post!

  • (lolcutoff) the point i think of this song is to tell people to not be too quick to judge people, because people are always different than what you first think of them. This idea can be taken into any situation in life, whether its that odd uncle you barely know or that popular girl you want to date. Always.

  • This song is absolutely beautiful. It tells a story (partly based off experience) about someone who finds themselves in a situation where they suddenly become afraid due to judging someone poorly and then having thoughts about that they are sure to die. This last part is when the guest pleads for his life, because he has been convincing himself about his death coming too much. The count has to then explain how this is just a misunderstanding and to tell others about this tale. The point i think

  • This song HAZ saved my life.. Literally

    Sad but true..

  • :'(( ...

  • i remember listening to it back in the days when i was a woman :D

  • "Goose bumps are the bumps on a person's skin at the base of body hairs which may involuntarily develop when a person is cold or experiences strong emotions such as fear, nostalgia, pleasure, awe, admiration or sexual arousal"

YES SIR! EXPERIENCED 'EM RIGHT HERE!

  • the song is beautiful, no doubt, but what actually happens is really anticlimactic, they spend a good part of 18 minutes building up the fact that this guy is expecting death, thinking 'am i gonna die?', in the last 3 minutes, 'nope'.

  • @UberMetallMaschine this song is based on a true event that happened to Petrucci haha

  • I remember when I used to listen to this with the best woman I've ever known, now she is gone, and all I have left is this song.

  • @januto Dude. That's brutal. Tis better to have love and lost, though. I would give a lung to be with a woman who would appreciate Dream Theater with me.

  • 3:06 is soooo orgasmic

  • I actually cried when I saw this live

  • @SwedenGnu i feel you, bro

  • @donbran92 HQ also improves sound quality man

  • This song is so special in my life

  • I love this song, is such a masterpiece!

  • this makes me wanna have to kill a bunch of people and take some serious damage to protect something very important to me...like a chick i love. or tacos or something. i know it sounds corny but my point is...epic music makes you wanna do epic things and DT make the best music for that.

  • agree with most of the guys who said that this ending part is one of the best ending parts in proggresive metal and if you hear it live its even better this band kicks ass.Let's w8 and see the new album can't w8 to hear it.

  • I think that this is the best final song ending of all time!!!!!!!

  • Every time I listen to this I think: ''Man, life is wonderful.''

  • john petrucci is the greatest guitarist on the planet....that's right, so what!

  • I'd like this a thousand fucking times if I could. So. Damn. Epic. The end is almost enough to bring a tear to my eye.

  • dream theater 's maçon...

    =/ its bad

  • Petrucci has the sweetest ever lead tone F**k YEAH!

  • Echt een super tof nummer!!

  • DT should make a movie OST....thumbs up if you agree

  • Lol HQ images really? Wooohouu... Anyway great song :) I really like it

  • You know this is quality music when it takes 5 minutes just give the song a just ending.

  • @Sproeikoei LMAO

  • You know your listening to DT when the ending is a fucking 5 minutes long epic ending.

  • I love this part!!! Just one of many great DT songs!!! <3

  • 10 people didnt meet the count of tuscany

  • One of the most beautiful pieces indeed. Chills every time.

  • The whole song is great but this part certainly takes it. It's amazing!

  • its supposed to be in the end of a movie

  • I'm pretty much in love with this song.

  • @LambofGod25041990 he only did it cause he helped the recordings after rev died and wanted to help them out. And of course Ax7 wasnt going to say no to MP, plus DT was on a break so he culd Ax7 out. It was only after the tour was over is when DT wanted to go back to the studio and now MP needed a break. Guess MP shouldve just gone on a break instead of helping out Ax7, but thats the price you pay when helping someone ot.

    No good deed goes unpunished

  • @CavemanJesus4Life I think he just should record the album with A7X, not touring with them...

  • how to reach perfection

  • One of my favorite songs ever

  • Indeed this is ONE of the most beautiful parts, but you need to include the guitar volume swells section immediately preceding this. Then you will hear the most beautiful part of this song, this album, and possibly their whole catalog.

  • the count of tuscanyyyyyyyYYYYYYYyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :)

  • ...was trying to hold it, but it made me cry. not waah waah waah cry, but you know. this group is just amazing. it's a crime that satellite radio doesn't even play them. only the great Eddie Trunk sirius channel 19, mondays 6p-10p eastern plays them. it's a crime

  • @mr198221 underground music- best music

  • This is one of the most beautiful DT songs ever...

  • did they get a new drummer?

  • By far this is the best part of the album, and that is saying something. Such a fantastic end to and album.

  • 8 people are the Cunt Of Tuscany.

  • Not gonna lie the lyrics out of context are much more powerful than if you know what the song is about :P

  • @butters226 yeaah, true : / ,the lyrics don't match the feelings of the music in this song

  • Tears. Emotions. Dream Theater.

  • Most of them are fan-pictures, not official.

  • 1:22 what's the title of that? Just "Dream Theater"?

  • this song made me a dream theater fan!!!!! awesome!!!!

  • great song, great artwork, GREAT.

  • Sproeikoei, can u name the source or link me the picture @ 1:21 with the meteor blasting through the logo? I can't find in somehow, though I seem to have looked it like everywhere. Almost, it seems, can be a fan art.

    Thx in advance

  • This is James Labrie's best performance ever. No other human being will ever be able to sing this song.

  • @ZachValkyrie Listen to Tenement Funster / Flick of the Wrist / Lily of the Valley and go to lily of the valley and listen to his voice there. (the cover by DT not the queenversion)

  • so good that mades me cry haha! and WTF in HQ if there are just images ???

  • @donbran92 HQ sound.

  • @donbran92 nope....put on 480p and listen again :D

  • @donbran92 It's actually a quite big difference in the sound aswell, listen again :)

  • @donbran92 HQ also means better sound quality, not just the video part but the audio is also HQ

  • @donbran92 HQ means high quality sound nly. good video quality is called HD,high deff

  • @donbran92 it improves the sound quality as well<3

  • @donbran92 HQ as in better quality of sound. Switch to 480p, there's a difference. It's clearer and more surrounded. Plug in your earpiece and enjoy the song :)

  • @donbran92 The HQ is for better sound quality Retard

  • @SpartanLaserCanon OK! I KNOW! DIDNT YOU SEE THE REST OF THE COMMENTS TELLING ME THAT ALSO THE SOUND QUALITY CHANGES? BESIDES, I WROTE THAT COMMENT 7 MONTHS AGO, GET OVER IT PEOPLE! AND YOU ARE THE RETARD!

  • @donbran92 Increases sound quality.

    Cool story bro.

  • @donbran92 HQ increases sound quality, not only video quality.

  • @tulvan Damn I already know!!! Dx

  • @donbran92 hq affects sound too.

  • @donbran92 Yo dude, it also improves the sound quality! Wasn't sure if you knew or not :)

  • @donbran92 with 480p is better sound

  • @donbran92 high quality sound i think it means :)

  • @donbran92 why not ? :P

  • @freddys93 what??

  • @donbran92 It's not just images,the sound quality is better .

  • I like this ending4, but it's not the greatest closing five minutes to a masterpiece ever. That mantle belongs to Octavarium.

  • @APolaris Frankly, ending of Octavarium can hardly be compared to this one

    just my opinion

  • A really really... great ending.....

  • 8 people met with the count of tuscany and he didnt give them a ride.

  • @RedTearz92 make that 10

  • i've gotten really sick of the word 'epic' lately, but i don't think there is another word that can describe these 5 minutes

  • more than words can say ... again and again ....

  • Comment removed

  • Best 5 minutes in PROG history!!! EPIC!

  • Again... almost all the artwork made by yours truly. Steve aka Stevetheater

  • Maybe the best ending I've ever heard.

  • Watch my video: Dream Theater - These Walls

  • is there anything else in the world this beautiful? besides maybe another dream theater song?

  • Once the acoustic part starts up it sounds nearly dead on to "Drown with me" by porcupine tree...then at 1:06 it sounds even more like it...just something I noticed...I love both bands way too much to care less, just something I noticed.

  • I think the best part of this song : ) !

  • Comment removed

  • i heard this and i was like holy shit this is sooooo cool the only problem i hav with this song is that im not sure wat the story is

  • @lequaie1234 John Petrucci was in Tuscany and while he was walking a young man pulled up beside him in his car offering to give him a ride a show him around. He called himself the Count of Tuscany. During the ride he explained to John the the story of Hannibal Lector was inspired by his brother's life. He then proccedes to show John all of his old, creepy things, such as a chapel, a castle and the like. When John is seeing this he is afraid that the man is trying to kill him. The Count realizes

  • @lequaie1234 this and tries to call john down and explain everything, that it is just how they act in Tuscany, it is just how they live.

    It's something like that.

  • I love this song... me encanta esta parte... thanks... Gracias por subirla....

  • Italy always is always seen bad...

  • where did you get those single covers?

  • 3:14 OH GOD YES!!!

...sorry; must have gotten carried away there...

  • WTF!!masonic symbol at 0:14

  • @darkhawk00 it's because the song "a rite of passage" is about secret societies

  • @oddtimekeeper hey dude could u please pass me that last picture of the count i really like it

  • anyone have any idea what the symbolism of the crow, moon, elephant means?...just curious..love this song,DT rocks!..my favorite band!!!

  • @oddtimekeeper Elephant in the room could be an illusion to the last song of the 12 step suite "The Shattered Fortress". DT always includes symbolism in their album art. The door is for A Rite of Passage, "Turn the key walk through the DOOR" Moon and stuff. Crows when flying in a pack are called a "Murder" could it be a reference to "The Count of Tuscany". The fear of JP being murdered? The Moon, "A NIGHTmare to Remember" occurs at night... Possible.

  • @oddtimekeeper dunno specifically but it all seems very Dali-esque to me.

  • @oddtimekeeper

    mine too

    DT 4ever !

  • che cacata...

  • Noobs, please don't compare metallica to dream theater. It's like punching DT directly in the face every time the thought even enters your mind.

  • @lavaking88988 just let me tell u that the noobs that's what they are NOOBS so and totally diferent MetallicA coff coff trash coff metal coff coff to DT coff progressivecoff metal coff coff (fu**ing cough) regards kevin

  • 1:59 that part gives me goosebumps, it's just so epic. I love this song so much :]

  • The Final's blockbuster. Hats off!

  • ymad29 - you obviously have your finger on the musical pulse - James LaBrie is Canadian...Negative comments about Dream Theater and in particular about this passage just make me feel sorry for you....DT are in my humble opinion second to none...

  • AMERICAN GAY VOICE

  • @ymad29 you're gay, stfu and listen this piece of art... instead u can go back and listen justin bieber...

  • @ymad29

    in fact he's Canadian... ;-D

  • @ymad29 French Gay Comment

  • @progrocky no dream theater is for the gays

  • @ymad29 go on your preferred "bands" videos, what the fuck are you doing here? Probably your're so angry because your're so bad at drumming that you can just pray to be as good as Mr. Portnoy, but honestly even your prayers will not help you. Don't waste time leaving stupid comments, practice drums instead, maybe one day you can do some covers of some Carla Bruni songs.

  • @progrocky mike portnoy... he left. DT will never be the same.

  • @Machiniman20 it's a change. i feared the same when Moore or Sherinan left. Dream Theater is the only band that exactly like..."a good wine improves with age". They will never be the same. Sure! It's time for a change. They will be just as they showed us in the past, better and better. This will maybe lead to a refreshing change in the sound. By the way this song was written by Petrucci. And IMO it's the best one on the last album. MP left DT. Don't care. The soul of DT is in the band not in MP.

  • @gipsyflyer But MP was just s great guy he made the atmosphere of DT great by his great humor while the rest of the band were kind of serious. MP will not be forgotten he was a great drummer. I don't think he can be replaced he was the band.

  • @DTxOctavariumx You're absolutely right. We will not forget him, never! But there's plenty of very good drummers out there and i'm sure that in any case we'll be surprised. The spirit carries on.

  • @gipsyflyer But its MP he made the band. No one can make that vibe again.

  • @DTxOctavariumx look: future will tell what will MP do and what will DT become. For now i stay with the band. DT was his band. He needs a pause? It's his job. Can you take a 1yr pause from your work just because you're tired or you find the guy sitting next to you boring? The band? Should DT stop for months waiting for MP to return? I don't think so. JLB is talented, JP is talented, JM is talented, JR is talented. They want to make a new album. They have the right to. With or without him.

  • @gipsyflyer Music is not like another job. Its an emotional investment. Without emotion, that which you would call "music" is just noise. If you don't feel the music, don't enjoy the process of creating the music, you will surely be disappointed by the results.

I hope that the rest of the band just hires a studio drummer for their next album and not a permanent replacement, at least for a while. It'd be a shame if Portnoy was ready to come back, but there was no longer a spot in "his" band.

  • damn, im in love

  • Magnificamente superlativa!

  • Dream Theater are just a bunch of perfectionists XD

But so awesome, EVERYTHING is perfect on this band! The drummer, the guitarist, the bassist, the synth guy, the singer, but this is what surprises me the most: The art. All the art on their albums are just so awesome, like 00:35, just gives me goosebumps

  • Amazing ending to an epic song. One of my favorite epic, extended songs. Great video :)

  • I've been listening to this song since it first came out, and I STILL get chills at this part of the song. It's just such a beautiful part of a beautiful song. Long live Dream Theater!

  • An Orgasm

  • @thecoroner75 an eargasm... several times in this part.

  • i'm sick and tired of people blaming JL for any of dream theater's problems... which actually don't even exist... listen to this song... he doesn't have voice problems. absolutely incredible.

  • I do share your opinion on this matter... of the upmost ultimate mega feeling ever!

  • Great great band........only band I respect as much as Rush.

  • ...I-I'm sorry, I keep seeing Master Xehanort in the background0_0 ...It is a very interesting song though!

  • Alright. Whoever said Dream Theater has written nothing good since Scenes From a Memory needs to be shot on spot. This is their best work yet.

  • @superhomsar2112

    Indeed.

I'm not really a big fan of their new album, but this song is probably their best. Just so fucking unbelieveable good.

  • Comment removed

  • @superhomsar2112 Yeah i agree, although it would be hard to call this their best work (actually maybe it is). I think the bad rep associated with their new stuff in some circles is partially due to the songs they make into singles and consequently put in music video form. I'm talking about songs like constant motion, a rite of passage etc. which are quite trite and clichéd (thts probably why their videos). Its only when u get to the epic songs that u find out how good DT can be

  • 2:52 - 4:03

    Nice part

  • best ending ever

  • One of my favorite songs by DT the ending is amazing the first time i heard it i couldnt stop listening to it and the story behind the song is funny if its true.

  • Esta banda todos los días me impresiona mas.

Están solos. Larga vida a DREAM THEATER.

God bless America especially to NEW YORK.

  • My play count on this song is currently 2384. So goddamn amazing. I am 100% certain that seeing it performed live, standing right in front of Petrucci was the best 20 minutes of my life

  • "The ending to "The Count Of Tuscany". To me it's one of the most beautiful parts i have ever heard, I hope people share this opinion with me."

    Oh yes sir I DO!

It's definitely one of my all-time favorite parts by Dream Theater. It's a huge list, but this section is included without a doubt.

  • @Arthemesic I can't agree more. :)

  • Not afraid to admit it. That solo at the end has made me shed tears. So beautifully amazing. I can listen to it a million times, and i'll never get sick of it.

  • I cry when i saw it live .... I am not kidding ._.

  • the pictures are cool dudes...

    DT till the end..

  • Best solo ever! Long live John Petrucci

  • i'm so addicted to this part of the song

  • This was always my absolute favorite part of the song. Regardless of what the lyrics actually say, this passage just evokes so much for me. Memories, regrets, all of it. And that's the sign of a band that is truly fantastic.
