  • I LOVE Bruce! I LOVE Adam. When I think of heaven.....oooooohhhhhhthunderroad We are gettin out of here too win.

  • I love Counting Crows. They are my favorite band. True storytellers. I've seen them twice in concert. They are awesome live!!! I hope to see them many more times..

  • I was at a show a few years ago and Adam did Mary Queen of Arkansas with Round Here. It was awesome.

  • this guy is one of the most talented people thats been around for years.. (my opinion) and so Underrated!!..Smart is sexy!

  • This Jersey Girl *loves*

  • capt.ainbigeyedpig.......well said and amen brother

  • Is this the one on their Town Hall DVD?

  • @thisdesertlife04 no it is not the same one

  • Great 2 songs

    amazing performance

    Bruce would certainly love this

    From a huge Springsteen fan

  • Awesome. Anyone who doesn't like this does not understand the true talent this man exudes as an artist. Too many youngsters have been brought up on idea that the studio sound/lip sync concert garbage is the norm.

  • WOW!

  • i like the springsteen-esque countoff in the beginning

  • I am a musician and a HUGE Springsteen fan.. Hes my biggest influence.. But I also listen to everything from that to the Carpenters to 2pac to eminem to TOOL to KISS etc etc.. and the Counting Crows.. I think its a BRILLIANT add on to the song.. Accept and appreciate the beauty of what is music.. Stop being so ignorant. I think Springsteen would def. play this song with the Crows.

  • Absolutely awesome - the way AD manages to seamlessly merge the 2 is brilliant, and to be honest, the lyrics could be his anyway !

    Fantastic !

  • There's such a thing as bad stage presence, Adam. Tone it down a notch.

  • Adam, you are bummed as sh*t tonight too. Rest in Peace BIG MAN

The ol' days have passed us by!

Thanks for always doing this song at shows.

  • I keep going back and forth between this version and the ella fitzgerald version as to what my favorite rain king is

  • I keep going back and forth between this version and the ella fitzgerald version as to what my favorite rain king is

  • adam duritz is the musical equivalent of chuck norris. he can do whatever he damn well pleases.

  • Nice rendition of Thunder Road by Duritz. I enjoy the way he improvises in his performances. Thunder Road is one of my favorite songs and I'd be the first to say it if he did it an injustice; but he did a fine job here.

  • I l

  • I love Counting Crows - but Bruce is my hero and Thunder Road is my all time top song - but - against all expectations it kinda works!!

  • Freakn' AWSOME!!!!!

  • two of my all time favourite songs played by a great band. thank you lord

  • This is one of the best things that ever happened

  • This is one of the best thing that ever happened

  • Oh dear Lord. As Nancy Kerrigan said, 'why why why???'

  • oh dear Lord. Horrible.

  • awesome fa sho. Durtiz is crunked fa sho

  • I've seen this version life in 2001, in Belgium. When Adam integrated the part of Bruce Springsteen it took me 15 sec's to notice that me and 2 other ppl in the audience where singing along. All my friends staring at me like "WTF is going on?" (I'm a huge Springsteen fan if you didn't get it).

Now to find it back on you tube. OMFG! Love it!!!

  • Are there people seriously comparing this to Bruce's versions? Adam is a HUGE Springsteen fan! I think you're missing the point of why he chooses to interpolate this classic into his own song. The themes are similar, and he was able to incorporate the lyrics while maintaining a variation on Rain King, musically. He gets so into his song, and then grabs a hold of another that is so dear to his heart, and expresses what he wants to say. Compare both head-to-head and I think you lose out.

  • This is no way better than springsteen

  • Wow, seamless. loved it!

  • @JenningsSK hey jennings...check out the Augustana version with the Crows...as Adam says..."this is the way the song should be played"....awesome

  • Was this version ever recorded on an Album?

  • @mowalon sort of, its on the itunes exclusive album live at soho. They did their acoustic version of the song and Adam sang the part with the Thunder Road lyrics. Its awesome you should get it!

  • I'd say Adam's phrasing on "Thunder Road" is messing with people's heads and he is over-acting it a bit : but it's kind of an un-killable song. If he wasn't trying so hard they might make a good job of it.

  • 4:15 he looks like an angel and the lyrics go perfectly with it. Adam is a genius and the band as well

  • just a joke, it happens to everybody, sorry...

  • @musicfuelsmysoul It's extremely hot on stage, and Adam as you can tell by this video moves around a hell of a lot.

  • Waiting......for The Sun...Luv bruce and...Adam...ok...Thunder/Rain King...seen this version so LIVE!!!

  • i like counting crows but they've completely killed thunder road, in my opinion

  • @OfficialSammi You can't really compare it to the original, it's not really a cover, it's just using the lyrics of Thunder Road as a bridge to Rain King is how I see it, the music is still a variation on Rain King, I love this about the Crows they throw other peoeple's songs into their own live or sometimes just improvise a whole section. I would kill to see them live.

  • @ElGoodo after having seen them three weeks ago at the Wellmont with Augustana for the 8th time...you don't have to kill...just buy a ticket...it is worth every penny!

  • Thunder Road Shatner-ized. :(

  • Just amazing...

  • thunder road has absolutely amazing lyrics

  • Thank you, Adam, for a great version of "Thunder Road"

  • My two most favorite songs together in one fabulous performance.

    Thank you Counting Crows.

  • damn great song, love the counting crows, love rain king. love this preformance

  • fuckin awesome! they rocked this show!

  • Fantastic song...one of the best versions I heard.....Peace

  • best ever.

  • 'Thank You' '4' 'Beautiful Music' 'Lyrics'. Ok' 'Love', You can 'stay' am not in the middle of moving'. You move me 'Everytime' and 'I Love You'. 'Your Soulmate. XXX

  • Both versions have there own touch of originality magic and spice there nothing alike so you cant expect the versions to be alike but both are great

  • not the same

bruce touchs audiences like no other

  • Counting Crows, I'm really happy for you and Ima let you finish, but Bruce Springsteen had one of the live performances of Thunder Road of all time.

  • hellzyeeuh

  • amazing. absolutely amazing, thunder road is one of my favorite all time songs, and august and everything after is one of the most beautiful albums ive ever listened to, front to back, every song is shear perfection. beautiful mix. love it

  • Brilliant!!

  • His songs don't have as much energy as Bruce's songs, so what makes you think the same sort of crowd would attend both.

  • i wouldnt expect the same sort of crowd to attend both, clearly i was stating my preference

  • @ckad79 Are you serious with this? It would probably shock you to know that there people out there who would go see both James Taylor and Led Zeppelin.

  • its a great song not sayin its better than bruce but also not sayin other wise.

  • @yanks0508 dude do you not see the crowd jumping up and down with their hands in the air all the time?

  • Those people have NO clue what they just had the privilage of seeing and hearing.

  • @papabear8n8 Amen

  • @HarryHood96 The KISS "destroyer" t-shirt puts it over the top....

  • I hope I NEVER cross that line from fan to critic. Even stuff i may not particularly enjoy. I will always respect the creation of it. And anybody who is a musician has at some point played something created by someone else.

  • The world needs more people with that kind of thinking, especially these days.

  • All you guys that think you have to compare this to Bruce are missing the point. Don't know Adam personally, but my guess is that he is just paying tribute to a classic song that he loves and putting his own twist on it. So relax and enjoy without fear that he is gunning for the lead in the E-Street Band. Seen CC's about 8 times and this is an amazing version of Rain King I've been lucky enough to hear live in person.

  • I DO know Adam personally and this is an amazing tribute to another amazing artist and song. Everything in the universe doesn't always have deep, mystical meaning guys. Sometimes a tribute is just a tribute. To try to 'recreate" is something else entirely. That is a cover band's job.

  • I'm an enormous fan of both but I really don't like this. He definitely takes it and makes it his own but there isn't inflection on certain lines which really screws it up. Bruce's lines in the original are so perfectly sang that it's hard to take this cover. Especially the climax of the 2nd verse when he says "tonight we'll be free, etc" Adam doesn't do anything. He keeps it quiet. It's totally different and I don't think it's good.

  • You might be right. The thing is it's not a Springsteen song anymore and it's not really a Crows song either, which is weird. It's just in between and it's incomplete.

  • haha....everybody who thinks this version is better than springsteen's (especially the versions from the late 70s) simply doesn't have any clue about music

  • 'I still 'Love' this 'version' of thunder road. 'I LOVE U'. 'UR ANGEL'. XXX

  • 'I LOVE' this version it's much better than 'bruce springsteens' one. 'I 'LOVE' 'Rain king' and 'U'. 'UR ANGEL'. XXX

  • Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen's version is much better than CC's.

    Great song ;)

  • don,t be a cunt your whole life !!

  • your off your box mate, he basically sings the words to thunder road over his music which is tantamount to butchery.

  • It's the often returning medley the Crows been doing the last few years, throw in another song after the solo. I didn't quite like this as much as I did the version with oh susannah (you can find it on youtube.) But Adam's got this way of putting so much emotion into the words. I'm a big Springsteen fan, seen him live twice although im swedish, and he has this forceful way while adam... it's different, and it's beautiful either way. really worth watching though!

  • Yes, bring back the Oh Susannah Rain Kings!!!! ;)

  • I think if you like Counting Crows better than Springsteen, then you'll like this cover, but if you liked Springsteen first it's doomed for you, because it's very obviously Adam's own version of the song. I'm sorta torn. I like what he did with the verse about "making crosses from your lovers, throw roses in the rain", but the rest of it I'm not sure about. Rain King was good.

  • I agree about the preference...I'm a huge Springsteen fan, and I like Counting Crows, but don't listen enough to consider myself a fan. But I thought this was a really interesting version. Kinda weird to listen to, but taking it for what it is, and not comparing to the original version, I think its good.

  • The BEST simply the best! Love Adam Duritz he is a genius.

  • Amazing interpretation of Thunder Road. Love it! Rocks. Hope to see him do it live if he hasn't changed it up already.

  • i completely agree with that comment even though im a huge fan

  • Because he's Adam Duritz, and he'll sing any damn song any damn way he pleases.

  • sloppy1778, if you don't like it just don't watch it, everyone has their own style

  • Can't wait 4th of July, Sioux City, IA.......... Counting Crows. Will be the Best 4tf of July ever!!!!!!!!

  • absolutely beautiful-love counting crows! great lyrics, great music! keep on rockin!

  • wishing could flow lyrics like this, where does her get them from,... a complete story....

  • her? adam is a he...

    LOL

  • If you're talking about Thunder Road, Adam got them from The Boss hiimself, Bruce Springsteen.

One of the greatest story songs ever.

  • whoooooooo hooooooooooooooo nice ..... fuck any sceptics....... thx

  • Two of my faves in one! Love this!

  • Its the my favorite band singing a song from my other favorite band! GREAT!!

  • Pure Magic :)

  • Excellent, one of a very few current bands that I love.

  • fantastic

  • amazing... amazing.. amazing... AMAZING!

  • love it...thank u

  • i love how they combine the 2 songs 2gether

  • Adam Duritz is a musical genius. I think his brain has special wiring. WOW.

  • @jjjfisher123 i'm pretty sure its partly because he's bi-polar. if you've ever seen a a guy max bemis from the band Say Anything you'll see he's similar and he's bi-polar too, although nothing compared to adam.

  • Just awesome

  • Rain King doesn't get the love it deserves.

    Great Song!

  • rock on!
