don't recall any of that being stated in this video; not by the uploader, nor by any of the other commenters here who seem to simply appreciate an artform that was supported by a great group of artists, who were using that artform as an expression of their life's experience.
even if i were af-am it wouldn't matter- truth is truth, and for one people to continually attempt to further strip and rape an entire people of ALL vestiges of any worth and nobility is nothing short of criminally insane.
@bonpolitif No,I'm not attempting to rob anyone of heritage. Just saying that blues music uses the english language and was being rhymed and sang to european instruments a long time before blues. It is just as rooted in black music as white music. There is a racist named BantuNation who says whites stole blues, rock, jaz, and rap but that is like saying blacks stole all music using the english language and instruments. Nobody stole anything,IT WAS FREE and to say that is a racist comment.
@paulypaulification well, it's kinda difficult to imagine 'The Blues' as we know it being sung by 1st thru 17th century Europeans while playing lutes and harpsichords; pretty funny to think about though...but otherwise agreed - Peace rocks!
White people were playing guitar and puting there feeling in it before a black man ever knew what a guitar was and perhaps before a black man knew what the English language was. Blues first started when a black man started mocking his master. You would have to go to the jungles of Africa to find true black music that was not influenced by white people.
@bonpolitif Do you have proof that black people invented the english language and the use of in rhymes, music, etc? If your people are looking for something sacred it should not be in this music. OVERCOMING 400 YEARS OF OPRESSION Calling whitey a thief will only destroy that.
@326Ka Dude, not all people can let there soul out. It don't matter what color you are. all people got it. If you don't think white people have soul just listen to Janis Joplin sing "Maybe" or "Work Me Lord" or "Little Girl Blue" . I will use her as just one example of a white person with soul. She was tormented. She put her soul in it. You know why? She was tormented, thats why!! She was doing something that is just as rooted in white music as black and not all white musicians care about feeling.
Thanks for this posting Mr Yardbird. I saw this back in the day and was blown away just as I am this morning. To put old footage with the educational content Is why I enjoy this site. People like you make my journey worth the effort. Now; put this on a justin Beiber page so his fans can learn a thing or two...lol This music runs the risk of being forgotten, but not this morning. Peace and Love
Great introduction to learning the history of the blues. Currently writing a dissertation on Bessie smith and ma rainey and their help of advancement toward feminism, class, race, and domestic issues.
