I don't think we want to meet aliens. The universe is around 13.7 billion years old. Our solar system around 4.6 billion years. What if the aliens are from a solar system that is 8 billion years old? How much will humans achieve in 100 years. How about 1000 years. How about 10,000 years. What about a million years? If they come here they have either achieved wormhole technology or have found a way to go faster than light. Either way they are going to be much more advanced than us.
Intelligent life has not visited here. I know this because that would contradict them being intelligent life. No form or being would travel the great distances we can prove have to be involved, just to dissect a cow (again?) or sexually mollest some redneck. He bases his conjectures on things that he can observe, measure, or quantify in some way. He can observe, measure, and quantify life on Earth, thus hypothesize life is elsewhere.

So you think there's life on other worlds? If life on Earth came into existence spontaneously then you would think it could happen elsewhere. I don't think we want to meet aliens. The universe is around 13.7 billion years old. Our solar system around 4.6 billion years. What if the aliens are from a solar system that is 8 billion years old? How much will humans achieve in 100 years. How about 1000 years. How about 10,000 years. What about a million years? If they come here they have either achieved wormhole technology or have found a way to go faster than light. Either way they are going to be much more advanced than us.

I'm not sure what your point is. You asked why Hawking is more inclined to believe in aliens rather than a deity. He is a man of science. He bases his conjectures on things that he can observe, measure, or quantify in some way. He can observe, measure, and quantify life on Earth, thus hypothesize life is elsewhere.
There is no quantifiable way to tell if a deity exists. Outside of space and time? Is he just supposed to take your word for it?

IF aliens ever attacked, it probably wouldn't be a Hollywood 'Independence Day'-style event, they would most likely just do it with biological warfare. Like spraying an ant hill with Raid. The idea that we would stand any type of chance against such an evolved species is laughable. And Hawking isn't the only genius who has advocated NOT to attempt any contact with extraterrestrials for the same reasons.

Aliens are just other people on other planets. A broader sense of other people who live in other countries. But hey, what proof is there that people exists elswhere on this planet? I've never seen them except on T.V., and you can't believe anything you see on T.V. or these wild stories you here about people visiting us; landing in these long flying machines that have come from some mythical make believe places called Europe and Asia and those who claim to have actually been taken there. For the aliens to come up with the technology to get here, that is so far superior to ours, they must have demonstrated working with thy fellow alien. So aliens if your listening and thinking about land on earth, don't go landing anywhere near the usa they might try blowing you out of the sky before you even get a chance to touch the ground and say I bring you peace

On the other hand, they might be more warlike and aggressive than human beings. Many technologies develop from wars and conflicts, the constant desire to create an advantage over the enemy whether it be weaponry, medicine, transportation, etc.

@dunnono00 Yes I aggree with our conflicts,wars we have pushed the development of our technology.Just as the internet,created by military and its architecture designed like a net to withstand war.I believe if they have the technology to travel vast distances to get here,they also easily have the technology to destroy themself and as you say being be more warlike and aggressive than humans,then they have very high probability of destroying themselfs before they get the chance to visit.

War, secrecy, suppression, denial, propaganda, brainwashing.. there's a lot of evils that come with the urge to bring children into this reality. The entire realm of existence we inhabit is capable of levels of intellect which would definitely reach parasitic levels of insanity. The greatest scientific exploration deals with what happens to us after we die, from the perspective of the dead.

There's enough trouble on Earth to deal with without worrying about aliens. We are quite horrible. If more capable aliens exist, they might be wiser beings that know how to live peacefully, and wouldn't care to go through the trouble of invading Earth. If they are belligerent ones that are as greedy as we are, then well, it should not be treated as a bigger issue than one country waging war on another. We are the scary aliens with the power to blow up the whole planet.
