Note the Harmony H44 Stratotone Marc Rebot is playing....-seen best at 2:15- made in the fifties....I have a couple...not the Korean remakes...they play like butter...big thick necks, light body. Plop in a chair, no strap, and you never get tired...hours can go by. Thank you Sarah.
@dhatadi LOL. I don't know what it is about this set of videos that makes everyone want to argue with me about who is in the band. I saw five shows on this tour, including this one. I have no idea what would make you think it's Smokey Hormel...
waits is one of those artists who carved out an identity early on and stuck to it for decades. watching him perform, it's as if he hasn't aged over the years.
Amazing ! Nice feel to know .. the music dosent lost or not yet . Sadly Tom is an artist from the last generation whos shit to the celeb life and the media . Great video!
Yo ppl, talkin' about rap, yes tom did rap and yes as you know Tom did a bunch of hilerious and outstanding bit-boxes. Just when Tom does rap it doesnt sounds like rap, it sounds like good old TOP CAT TOM!
Watching this makes me want to start eating sandpaper and smoking just to get that Tom Waits husky sound. I'm curious if he's ever experimented with any rap because that stuff would be pure audio gold.
By covering things like saturdday night fishfry, and changing the way how to sing Psties ans G-string e.g. Tom has indeed done rap... besides, the roots of rap are Walking Blues, and Tom is as much of a bluesman as a traveller... old enough to be able to make his music sounding like Hank would have composed it, and Kerouac written. Kerouac is unbeatable, though.
Exellent... Thanks for sharing you video... I was lucky enough to see him in concert but I still feel the need to see more of his performances... more! more! I just can't get enough! thanks again.
thank you so much! Mr. Waits doesn't come 'round minneapolis, mn very much, for reasons all his own, so this really....I can't say actually, just thank you, you're awsome and what ever you do, don't get shot.
That's because Russell Simins and Judah Bauer from the Blues Explosion are playing drums and guitar on the Letterman version. It's got more feel. The drummer in this one is playing too rigid. Like a metronome.
Yeah no kidding, the drummer really sucked on this one. The worst part is thats his son! HA! He has no feel for this music, rigid and lagging. Tom has to grab maracas to give the kid the tempo, its good after that. That would really piss me off to finally get to see my first Tom Waits performance and have to put up with his douchey son behind the drums.
Did you comment on the wrong video or something? That's not his son... it's "Brain" Mantia. I'm sure Brain is flattered that you think he's young enough to be Tom's kid though ;-)
I have 12 or 13 of Tom's albums and love every one of them. One of my favorites is his latest. Can't wait (no pun intended) for November. His next comes out on my birthday!
i personally love the albums Mule Variations and Rain Dogs -note on rain dogs Keith Richards from the rolling plays/sings backup on the song "blind love"
I think the Heart Attack and Vine album is deffinetly up there with his best... can't think of another song in the world that hits me as hard as On the Nickel...
I perform both of these songs with my band. Y'all have no idea how funky "MAKE IT RAIN" is/can be. It never fails to kill. "JOCKEY" is a classic from the "RAIN DOGS" LP. I never feel better than when I'm interpreting Toms music.
I love the line in the song where he says, "....what she does, you can't give it a name....". Do you have the CD "REAL GONE"? If not pick it up it's great!!!
@SarahV What you've done, I can't give it a name. Absolutely priceless, thank you!
