  • Great playing as usual. Love your version. did you read the book "Lady Franklin's revenge"? good reading if you are into this story. BTW, because you are such a good musician, I think you should invest in a better microphone system. ROCK on Mike :0)

  • Just listened to your version of Lord Franklin.. perfect start to the day. .i should invest in a better visual and vocal set up... wouldn't know where to start.. and anyway.. a better camera would show the wrinkles.. Lol M:)

  • HI MIKE ,,,KEEP ON POSTING..

  • sometimes i dream.. for months..

  • I like your version best. easy to harmonize to, as well...you're easy to blend with as well....kathy....

  • thanks.. just looked at your channel and work.. outstanding, creative and class..

  • Ichingiching, I love your guitar work on this song. May I possibly cop the tuning?

Oh yeah, your singing pretty darn good also! Do you do "Cruel Sister". Love to hear it.

  • i'm away from home so can't play but from recal i think its dropped D and capo on second.. i have crule sister up somewhere... thanks for the note and listening.. cheers Mike

You play and sing it well my friend.

  • Hi Chris.. this is my favourite traditional song.. I spent a lot of effort researching Franklin's life to give myself a sense of understanding.. fascinating life.. hope you have fun learning it.. a great addition to any repertoire.. regards Mike

  • thats very kind daaaf.. thank you .. M:)

  • Did a brief survey of the other 'Lord Franklin' versions on YouTube. Yours is quite clearly the best. :)

  • thats cool.. thanks for listening and dropping me a line.. cheers M:)

  • A great balance between the story, the singing and the guitar playing all seem to complement each other.

  • Thank you zonko.. m:)

  • Well as I said a balance is beautiful, Some dominate with guitar playing but the story and dictation are so weak, and as this is a factual story, So telling the story singing and then the guitar,,,,,,,,, well you seem to do it right for me!

  • thanks again zonko.. and for listening.. the story of Franklin is well worth reading.. this song really captures his last voyage perfectly as all good folk songs should.. cheers M

  • thanks for the reply. If you do requests may I ask for "shoals of Herring" ? Its a personal favourite. keep on pickin'

  • yes jimbo.. capo second fret.. and dropped D

  • wow!!! fantastic!!!! great playing and singing.

  • Getting chills listening/watching. I've been obsessed for years with the Franklin Expedition. Love Pentangle's version but this is equally as good.

  • yes I read about the life and times of Franklin.. very fascinating.. I love pentangle's version too.. m

  • It's so good this one that words can barely describe it. I think we should start a Lord Franklin Song appreciation club.

  • Thanks again Chris . M

  • Really cool rendition man. I'm just looking over some different versions and now and yeah yours is really nice. 1:22 to about 1:30, ah, ah so good lol. Yeah man sounds lush, and cool mustache. ;) :D

  • Thanks for your knid comments.. like the one about the mustache.. cool again. m

  • S'alright man. I'm gonna' have to watch you playing it 'til it sinks in and clicks for me so I can play the song too. Maybe a cool mustache will overnight appear above my lips in some fantastical fashion too? Who knows....

  • Very poignant. Nice guitar work!!

  • its worth reading about his life.. a very interesting character..

  • Great!!

  • Thanks for listening.. cheers

  • thanks deadwood.. m

  • Very moving. I included this song in LIVERPOOL LULLABIES, the Stan Kelly Song Book (Heathside Music 1964 reprint 1975). It was collected by the late, great A L (Bert Lloyd) from a Falklands whale-factory blacksmith called EDWARD HARPER! Honest! Bert sings it on a Topic Record anthology.

    Pax vobiscum. Stan Kelly-Bootle

  • another 5 *****'s. I sent you the Steve Gillette video. Where is Teddy?

  • thanks spcat.. teds been in hibernation.. should be out soon.. cheers Mike

  • Nice one! I also had a version posted on YouTube. Some years ago, I wrote a play, which was performed in Galway, Ireland's Punchbag Theatre, called 'No Earthly Pole,' about Franklin's doomed voyage. It did quite well and was put on during the Galway Arts Festival; I later drew up a film treatment for it and there was interest.

  • hi, a great link, It really got to me when I went to Christchurch museum and saw the original poster rewarding anyone for knowledge of his whereabouts... M:)

  • thank you for a few minutes joy of the past. The things I've forgotten. Beautiful.

  • Don't know whether you saw us then, we were five lads from Brum who had cycled up from Birmingham, and we were going on to cycle from Cambridge to Ledbury for the Big Chill afterwards. Well, music wise, Cambridge won by a good few miles. JRII

  • what a lovely version - you should've gone to cambridge this year, i love that song, and that was done excellently. Nice one. JRII

  • Hi Johnny Thanks for your kind comment. I did go to Cambridge this year but only as a steward at the Cheery Hinton camp site I'm afraid.. a star in my own tent!

  • I love your chord voicings. I'll be putting up my own arrangement of this great traditional before too much longer. Excellent job.

  • Ok, it's up! Let me know what you think...

  • Nice relaxed playing and singing sir! I love John Renbourns pick of this but find Martin Carthys version more haunting. Off to check out your others.

  • Your a star, let me know how you get on. Cheers. M

  • Beautiful song. Beautifully played.

  • Congratulations on a great version of this fantastic song. Knowing the mystery behind the disappearance of Franklin and his men... this song really encapsulates it well and you do a great job delivering it.
