  • Musical instruments of South India aren't well represented in the video, e.g, Mridangam, which is one of the important percussion instruments, is not shown. Moreover, the choice of Mohiniyattam dancer is bad, and so is the Kathakali make-up. Odissi was superb.

  • @XXXMuSiCMAnIaXXXI But it is good to see S. Balachander - a couple of years before he passed away, I think.

  • This is really sad that in a country where music was born and the land where music has kept its root rock solid, songs like "Kolavari Di" gets viral!

There are so many good musicians out there, who make real serious stuff and no one give a damn about them.

Really disappointed to see this "Apmaan" of Indian Music! :(

  • Deshraag...why cant ppl recreate such things anymore

  • An all time golden song made by doordarshan which makes me proud to be INDIAN

proud to be a part of a country which consists of such big gems.

  • its a vichitra veena.its known to be one of the most difficult instruments in d world.

  • where have gone those days?

  • Amazing ... DD1 songs and Ads were very good and memorable.

  • I think All the NRI's living outside India miss those days for sure. In pursuit of wealth we have come outside....but the question we should ask is are we really happy here when India has so much to offer...India has so much innonence and charm in it and no country can match it...It may be poor but it is rich in ancient values and heritage

  • Baje Sargam is a marvelous song, which showcases our country's rich heritage, tradition and culture.I recommend each and every person born in this great land should watch and know how the great the India is among the nations.

  • Neither We are poor Culturally nor Financially....

We just lack in moral values....We are biggest hypocrites in the world..that is why we are like beggars...

Moment we Rise above Self pity ,jealousy & Hatred....We will again Lead the world.....

    Jai Hind/

  • @abs87iitm no u r just an asshole

  • Makes me feel proud to be an Indian, as I look in awe at this rich tapestry of India's Classical Music & Dance forms. notice how the personalities of these artists is mirrored in the timbre of their instrument, they are truly one with their instrument be it the ecstatic effervescence of the Tabla or the charm of the viola or deep, solemn sonority of the No. at 5:05. Those were the good old days, so pure, unadulterated entertainment.

  • Even Today, Doordarshan shows are much cleaner and better than the so called soaps and realty shows on private channels. indeed doordarshan is a gem and true media for India. all the issues concerning our country are covered by doordarshan.

  • Just Awesome....

  • its sad that our new generations havent had the good fortune of witnessing these jewels of DD, and even more sad that DD has almost dies out in the midst of all that cable non sense we're addicted too. wish DD would make some efforst to come bac to its glory days and teach generations to come what it taught us morning n evening.

  • I am shocked to see dislikes on THIS gem of a video that can offend or displease none..where are v goin?

  • I agree with you Mukul Kedare on this view.

  • Instead of showing dirty ads & cheap numbers on their dirty channels they can show this .

(Ten sports very very worst !!!!)

  • i like this song very much . it shows the richness of Indian music . Watching doordarshan was a privilege . we were fortunate enough to see those programs as compared to the kids today.

  • I can not resists my self from commenting on this video. If some one ask "What is Indian Culture ?" , then he/ she can definitely be asked to watch this classic, evrgreen, masterpiece. Whnevr you hear this you can esly get the healing toch and you feel proud to be born in such a GREAT cntry, isnt it ? We can not get back to those days but we can try to keep the flavors intact by promoting these kind of rich videos. I'm agreed with @mukulkedare82 I HOP TDAY ALSO I WKE UP IN D TUN OF RANGOLI :)

  • I agree with you metallicindian on this view.

  • This video makes me feel Sunday : - )

Fuck cable TV.. back in the days DD was the king.. best shows ever

  • hey!!

shame!!! for not showing videos like these,,, instead showing those mimics or stupid ads or melodramatic serials...absolutely ridiculous......

    This is REAL INDIA.....

    PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN.....

  • @coolconfident19

    That india is lost

  • beautiful....good old days of doordarshan...

  • too bad sattriya dance was not a recognised classical dance then .. it wud have been nice to see a vignette of it as well.

  • Ohhhh how I miss this!!!! I used love it soo much!!!! They definately start telecasting these oldies again!!!!!!

  • I used to think classical music was boring when I was little. Now I look back and think about how stupid was.

  • Unity in diversity! guess we are now totally oblivious of this fact, and are acting selfishly and have become fundamentalists based on caste/ language/ religion and region! Pity on us as we are no more open hearted and cannot show national integrity :|

  • Can someone list out the names of all these maestros please.. with the Time in this video when they appear... Please and thanks

  • Proud 2 be an Odia ,,,

    Proud 2 be an Indian..

  • @ajitanshuray Proud to be an Indian , and then proud to be anything else ;D

  • This is what unit us as an Indian , ,

wow it's just amazing to imagine how many colours we have

  • Million thanks to imsujoy ..... really our tradition and culture is our only mainstay .. time since DD stopped broad casting these videos, no wonder the feeling of Indianness has gone far away and we are all rolling in the realm of consumerism

  • i too think that this video and mile sur mera tumara should regularly shown just once on every tv channel that would bring a good feel in everyone's heart and a love for our country and respect to our culture will continue forever which is unfortunately diminishing somewhat this could bring alittle bit change i believe this.

  • It sometimes strikes me how there's so much more cultural heritage intact in the south of India than in the north. You see it in several such videos. Kerala was represented twice, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh once; each one of these states has their own classical dance form. On the other hand, all 12 or so states that constitute North India can only lay claim to Kathak.

  • Perhaps that's because the North had to bear the full force of Islamic invasions (and its cultural effects), unlike the South.

  • @thephilosopherkartik

what about manipuri dance, what about satriya dance? and what about odissi? india is not only north or south, there are east and west as well.

but yes u r right, kathak came from many different places.

  • I really admire this beautiful composition and have immense respect for all the gifted people in this video. But, one thing that always bothers me about DD videos, are their sheer neglect of the state of Karnataka. I am not being regional-minded, but look at how Karnataka is treated in Mile Sure or other such compositions. If all south states were given a raw deal, i would at least attribute it to some snobbishness, but when Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala are beautifully represented....

  • In Mile sur Mera tumhara, No other south Indian language Except Tamil was properly represented. the rendition of Kannada was better than the miserable Telugu and Malayalam lines. Buy I agree that Tamil had an unequally high share of time and people in the video....

coming to 'Desh Raag', it is unfortunate that Kannada was missed. They were showcasing the eight dance forms which are given classical dance status. I don't know why but yakshagana is not a part of them. So the absence of Kannada.

  • Nostalgic!

  • the video seems to have some part missing earlier in the end. thanks for the upload, it's just awesome, these are the videos who grew up watching.

  • @24560086: are you sure the vocals are panditji?

  • @ piratesofjalandhar: its a veena

  • thanks i dont know if anyone plays it anyomre

  • Oh! A lot of people still play the Veena. They may not be world famous, but there are artists out there, especially in South India.

  • what is the instrument the old man playing at 5:31

  • @piratesofjalandhar It is Mohan Veena, son

  • sry bro its not mohan veena

  • How do you know, what kind of a Veena its is? It could very well be a Saraswati Veena

  • Please upload full version.

  • tabla - ustad allah rakhha and ustad zakir hussain

sarod - usatd amjad ali khan

    voice - pt.bhimshen joshi

  • can somebody say the names of these music Gods

  • these videos should still be shown on TV to keep the patriotism sky high in the country...

  • oh man....brings back memories...i can watch this video all day long...this video shud be shown everyday in parliament to our honourable MPs what it is to be an Indian...

  • Hi eequalsmvsquare she is Mallika Sarabhai famous Kuchipudi dancer in India.

  • Actually this is not the full version ... the first time around they play it slowly and the next time around they play it fast .. also lalgudi jayaraman and a rajasthani instrument is missing from this version ....

  • yeah its protima bedi ....

  • Reminded me of the good old days. Thanks for making it available :)

  • simply nostalgic

  • one of the BEST song from the BEST country in the world.... Always PROUD to be an Indian...

    Jai hind..

  • simply Amazing

  • Amazing. This brings back so many nostalgic memories. Everytime I used to see this on DD, used to feel proud and felt a sense of happiness entering my being. Still feel the same even after so many years.......I love my India

  • excellent

  • the bharatnatyam dancer is SwapnaSundari I think

  • the Bharatanatyam dancer in green, can anyone identify who that is??

  • i cry almost everytime i watch this video.

  • wow the dancers have so perfect expressions.....this suddenly made me realize how long it has been since i have actually seen a classical dance performance

  • I think these videos must be played all the current commercial TV channels , its good for the children to get the feel of our rich heritage, but these TV channels will loose lots of money if they play this for 5-10 minutes , which they earn by showing some perfume ads that makes a married women fall for a wierd guy who uses the spray .....

  • Say the TV channels never play these, I still hold parents responsible for the declining morality and lack of cultural knowledge. All Indian kids (locally and NRIs) have access to YouTube these days; parents can come here and show these videos to their kids. So parents are and should be #1 when it comes to accepting/taking the blame. Or so I feel.

  • @mukulkedare82: It is not difficult dude. But the thing is Private Channels are living in a Competitive World and they can make lakhs of Rupees in these 6.36 minutes.

  • thanks a ton !

  • Any nation would be lucky to have one or two forms of classical art that are still thriving in modern times.

    India has so many!

I pay homage to my country. She is beautiful, refined and ever-changing.

  • karnataka sangeetham, hindustani music, kathakali, mohiniyattam, kuchipudi, odissi, bharatanatyam, manipuri, panchavadyam, thayampaka, bhangda......... oh my god, we may be poor financially. But culturally, we are the richest in the world

  • @knpradeep77 : We were financially rich as well - that is what attracted all the invaders.. We shall regain the cultural and financial glory soon

  • @knpradeep77 who cares about money when you can have a good time!

  • guess it were regular telecasts of these classics (baje sargam, mile sur mera tumhara, and the other marathon one...)that made me like the Indian classical music...never realized its value as a child, but today as i watch this...i recollect this was one of my earliset encounters with Indian classical heritage...so so so touching

  • nostalgic...all the greats together!

  • Feelin' terribly nostalgic ..... the last part in which the melody goes on the jaya hey jaya hey jaya hey always gives me goosebumps ... :) Love it :)

  • Feeling myself Nostalgic...one of the DD classics..

  • My memories attached to this one has come back thanks a lot for this video... Most ppl in their 20 s and 30s have grown up with this song...Doordarshan rocks

  • Thanks imsujoy & ssen85 the invaluable video. I'm 29 and was below my teens when these videos used 2 air on DD. I think all the channels should broadcast these videos again so the younger generation gets 2 know who Pt Bhimsen Joshi, Pt Shivkumar Sharma, Ustad Allah Rakha, Pt Ravi Shankar, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasiya, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Pt Jasraj are, as they are & will always be the 24 carat true jewels of Hindustani music. Pranam & Salam 2 them.
