what is your opinion when you compare the ubuntu studio 11.04 release and the 11.10?
I am using the 11.04 and so far I have no complaints, but if you tell me this one has a lighter and faster interface, would you say it makes sense to upgrade? or should I stay with mine?
@massiveconquistador Since the new Ubuntu studio uses a lighter interface, you can expect better performance. If you like your distribution the way it is, then you could simply update your PPA's to keep your applications fresh.
@bigvirgotube I was using KAZAM but the updqate that just came out 2 days ago is broken on my system and I was unable to revert to the prior version. I am now using "ffmpeg" from the command line to do my screen captures and I like it's performance better.
the sound is under the applications menu --> multimedia --> Mixer ... he just added it as a panel by right clicking in the upper right and hit add panel .. and yes no Software Center i've noticed that too..
thanx for the tutorial. I just installed it & it's my 1st time using XFCE environment, very light weight & fast, especially if ur using old machines. However, Software center doesn't seem to exist. I used synaptic. I dont see also sound settings. cant play sound at all.
@Mdschannel I do not think this is possible as gnome 2 will break packages on your system. I would recommend using Mint or Pinguy OS. Does anybody have any other suggestions for Mdschannel??
XFCE, Because Unity, and Gnome Shell is NOT a good interface for audio/video production.

What did you use to run your Windows programs natively? WINE? I'm reviewing this vs McInnis' Dream Studio.

@bigvirgotube I am using WINE and Vineyard is the front end.
