  • Sam the eagle looks like a negative.

  • you know since the song is from Threepenny opera, you'd think Sam would be ok with it. "Culture is culture" after all.

  • I wish dr teeth and the electric meyhem had more speaking roles

  • oh man he played you son.

  • Honestly, I would really like to hear Dr. Teeth do the whole song of "Mack the knife" now. I was really digging it there.

  • Directly translated from Bertholt Brecht:

And the shark, which has teeth

And which he carries in his face

And MacHeath he has a knife

However, the knife one does not see

  • On the sidewalk, one Sunday mornin

    Lies a body oozin' life

    Someone's sneakin' round that corner

Could that someone be Mack the Knife?

  • Love the muppets!!!!! Im so glad thier back!

  • Wow, THAT'S what the song is really about?

    I never knew...XD lol

    Thanks Dr. Teeth ;)

  • with Dr.teeth it's like saying a dentist is a banker

  • @AugustSpies55 they make a hell lot 'o' money lol

  • Anyone know the brand name and the model of the organ featured in this song?

  • I was hopen Sam was gonna jump in there somewhere and take over the vocals

  • dr.teeth looks like a pimp!!!

  • Haha, I love this song.

  • Dr. Teeth is fresh.

  • Is Dr.Teeth a pimp??

  • @wackbrownies240

    He's THE Pimp.

  • @wackbrownies240 No his just the lead singer and keyboard player of a band. The band's name is the Electric Mayhem.

  • @netwolfe yeah I know i was joking....cause of how hes dressed........

  • @wackbrownies240 Oh. I thought you might have been someone who was unfamiliar with The Muppets and was asking a genuine question. Sorry. Jokes and sarcasm are sometimes hard to pick out within a text format.

  • Sam is such a busybody.

  • sams got some shifty eyes there

  • Ah, a great German classic.

  • Its bits like this that make Dr.Teeth my favorite muppet.

  • Jeez folks, some of you are taking Sam out of context. Jim Henson said himself that Frank Oz made Sam to be a parody of not conservatism, but overly stiff people who may have good intentions but end up making themselves look silly. Conservatism in general is neither right nor left, but just a way of thinking that while some things must (and should) change, the basics of a free society remain constant (freedom, security, and basic values).

  • The Threepenny Opera was written by Kurt Weill (music) and Bertold Brecht (lyrics), both germans. So the original is in german.

  • Sam should have a show on Fox News he fits in with some of those guys. lol

  • @NJburbsSeeker wouldn't sam get a heart attack from a glimpse at half the stuff that airs on fox,

  • @ELMATO9 I agree, even if he'd fit on some of the 'news' programs, he'd be JUST as unhappy with the stuff fox airs as he is on the muppet show.

  • "I don't fully grasp it but I am sure it's a lovely sentiment"

ROFL - My stomach and throat hurt from laughter. :)

  • doctor teeth is "dr john"!!!!!!!!

  • I've always thought "Mack The Knife" was the best song ever written about a man who has a wife for whom he buys pillows! It's a shame McDonald's bastardized it the way they did in the 80s.

  • i like it

  • its funny how conservative he is haha!

  • XD--Sam is jamming to it at the end!

  • Comment removed

  • I thought they were eyelids.

  • Nice Yamaha organ.

  • :) VERY GOOD

  • I love Dr. Teeth's version SO much more than the original. STFU Sam, I wanna hear the rest D8>

  • Hahaha!!!!

Sam you are so gullible! XD

  • We have seen a lot of Jim Henson/Frank Oz pairings but this may be the strangest one!

  • Ah I love Dr. Teeth. xD

  • okay i already found it...

but is the melody of the song invented by the muppet show or is there a "real" song too?

  • The Song is called Mack The Knife, I think it was covered by Frank Sinatra.

  • Nope, it wasn't invented by the Muppet Show writers. It's the opener from the German musical "The Threepenny Opera." The song, "Moritat vom Mackie Messer" (The Ballad of Mack the Knife) was translated into English, and was covered countless times. And Dr. Teeth is totally bullshitting Sam, BTW - The song's about a serial killer. ;)

  • @carrieko It was performed by Louis Armstrong as early as 1959.

But back to the original question, of COURSE it's a REAL song! ; ) Jim Henson did happen to write some great ones!

  • Good ol' Louie. :)

The Threepenny Opera was first performed in 1928, though.

  • Yeah, thanks! But I'm sure as soon as you typed that you noticed my other post, re: 1928. : )

At any rate, great song! And Dr. Teeth rocks!

  • Wiki is our friend! ; P "Mack the Knife" was written in 1928. Eight years before Henson was born.

  • i think there was a german version of this video on youtube, but i cant find it anymore... where has it gone???

  • Sam's funny when he's angry.

  • Sam's always angry!

  • Not only that. Sam is also not really as "cultured" as he likes to think he is.

  • @TheEmikodo Dr. Teeth is the hipster and Sam Eagle is the square, Sam reminds me of my pastor same conservative attitude the authoritative, booming, almost monotone voice

  • The "Mmm!" sounds like Sam's gagged
