@wackbrownies240 Oh. I thought you might have been someone who was unfamiliar with The Muppets and was asking a genuine question. Sorry. Jokes and sarcasm are sometimes hard to pick out within a text format.
Jeez folks, some of you are taking Sam out of context. Jim Henson said himself that Frank Oz made Sam to be a parody of not conservatism, but overly stiff people who may have good intentions but end up making themselves look silly. Conservatism in general is neither right nor left, but just a way of thinking that while some things must (and should) change, the basics of a free society remain constant (freedom, security, and basic values).
I've always thought "Mack The Knife" was the best song ever written about a man who has a wife for whom he buys pillows! It's a shame McDonald's bastardized it the way they did in the 80s.
Nope, it wasn't invented by the Muppet Show writers. It's the opener from the German musical "The Threepenny Opera." The song, "Moritat vom Mackie Messer" (The Ballad of Mack the Knife) was translated into English, and was covered countless times. And Dr. Teeth is totally bullshitting Sam, BTW - The song's about a serial killer. ;)
@TheEmikodo Dr. Teeth is the hipster and Sam Eagle is the square, Sam reminds me of my pastor same conservative attitude the authoritative, booming, almost monotone voice
Sam the eagle looks like a negative.

you know since the song is from Threepenny opera, you'd think Sam would be ok with it. "Culture is culture" after all.

Honestly, I would really like to hear Dr. Teeth do the whole song of "Mack the knife" now. I was really digging it there.

Directly translated from Bertholt Brecht:
And the shark, which has teeth
And which he carries in his face
And MacHeath he has a knife
However, the knife one does not see

The Threepenny Opera was written by Kurt Weill (music) and Bertold Brecht (lyrics), both germans. So the original is in german.

Sam should have a show on Fox News he fits in with some of those guys. lol

@NJburbsSeeker wouldn't sam get a heart attack from a glimpse at half the stuff that airs on fox,
ELMATO9 1 year ago
@ELMATO9 I agree, even if he'd fit on some of the 'news' programs, he'd be JUST as unhappy with the stuff fox airs as he is on the muppet show.

okay i already found it...
but is the melody of the song invented by the muppet show or is there a "real" song too?

The Song is called Mack The Knife, I think it was covered by Frank Sinatra.

carrieko 2 years ago 5
@carrieko It was performed by Louis Armstrong as early as 1959.
But back to the original question, of COURSE it's a REAL song! ; ) Jim Henson did happen to write some great ones!
EvelTwinOfSlogmaster 2 years ago
Good ol' Louie. :)
The Threepenny Opera was first performed in 1928, though.
carrieko 2 years ago
Yeah, thanks! But I'm sure as soon as you typed that you noticed my other post, re: 1928. : )
At any rate, great song! And Dr. Teeth rocks!
EvelTwinOfSlogmaster 2 years ago 2
Wiki is our friend! ; P "Mack the Knife" was written in 1928. Eight years before Henson was born.
