This is an English masterpiece, which shows the xenophobia of the English in Florence, Italy and how repressed the Edwardian culture were sexually and finding freedom from a religious institution & love & the differances of English and Italian culture. Helena Bonham Carter plays Lucy very well and her confusion over her English gentleman lover. The book and film was learned in my all female English school, we really found it charming like our teacher.
