I kind of liked the uncivilized ones better but the 74 is a nice car. I have one of each. To answer the question - I remember the Opera windows and Landau tops as a kid and thought they looked sharp. My folks bought a new Gran Torino Brougham in 1974 and I thought it looked classy. They bought a 78 Cutlass with a Landau top. They were popular on up to around 1983 I guess. They held up ok but they ultimately held water underneath - especially on GM models.
I can't believe that the vinyl roof and opera windows were considered a selling point back then. Those features look so square and tacky today. To add insult to injury, the typical vinyl roof peeled like crazy after just a few short years. No wonder cars don't come with this tacky feature anymore.
