I was never a big T.E. fan, but I love this song, specifically this version which is far superior to the one they recorded for the Kilimanjaro LP. Not all of this compilation album has aged well, but it's an interesting mix.
Not a demo as such and not Peel, this may have been earmarked for their first LP entitled "Everybody wants to shag the Teardrop Explodes" but they were signed up as mentioned and a decision was made to record the set from scratch. The "Everybody..." title was later dredged up for the belated release of the (originally) abandoned 3rd LP. This version is beautifully crafted, timeless.
This version would of probably been released as a follow-up to the Zoo release of 'Treason' (1980) had Phonogram have not of snaped them up when they did. They splashed some cash and recorded a new version with Mike Howlett, which also appeared in a longer format on 'Kilimanjaro'. This is rather quaint and charming.

The only time I ever heard this song (this version) it was played on Jon Peel. Years later I finally hear it again. Good one.
