Depends on what you like.

BA - is most popular

XTA - is one of the first TA mods

NOTA - Large scale with more macro. Longer games though.

TA - Don't know what that is. If you are looking for something close to original Total Annihilation, BOTA(Basically original TA) is what you are looking for. Otherwise you can look up the Spring unrelated TA3D project.

Ok... it seems the installer did not provide which mod/s you want to install. Check the links in this video's description. Spring has an archive mover, in that it will move mods and maps to required locations when you click on the files.

Depends on what you prefer...

I see Balanced Annihilation as extending in micromanagement, NOTA in macro and Complete Annihilation in abundance of features that it has.

I personally played NOTA when there was an opportunity(player count).

@midget120 pheonix project is still working although the community isn't very active also you can get the warzone server i havent played on that one yet but it seems good

1) Download and install the game engine (link in description)

2) Download mods & maps for that engine. (Though the game engine installer will already provide some options)

3) Download TASClient or Springlobby to have more options for single player games and to be able to play online.

Check the FAQ (also link in description) if you still have problems.

@MegaLinuxer Not to mention supreme commander was lame due to how badly they handled tech levels. Save for the first few minutes of gameplay, tech lvl 1 units were worthless, the fact you could end up SPAMMING Experimental units every minute or so later in the game, and that the flying one was cheap as hell, AND that your commanders upgrades, and himself, were pretty worthless as anything but a powersource... ugh that game hurt my soul.

@Stchurdak I wouldnt hold your breath, phantagram were supposed to release TA2 in 2003 but dropped the project and boxed it. I have seen whispers around the net that they are releasing TA2 but they all tie back to media reports from 2002. There has been nothing confirmed about TA2 since early 2003 when phantagram went under and were bought out. Unfortunately I think some people have their wires crossed.

Well there is also TA3D. It is pretty much the same TA just in 3D. Spring is and was really meant as an RTS engine that was based on the form TA was.

I couldn't return to normal TA since Spring's interface and Lua widgets help so much. Like auto on/off metal makers, zooming, variety of ways to build buildings(with indent), custom formations and other helpful lua widgets.

@Solkovsky hell yeah the mod works, there are many different types of AI for it each with its own strategy, and about 95% of its units (well at least in Balanced Mod) are from OTA

well. first of all, this isnt one mod for the spring engine, secondly get either the spring module updater or spring downloader for automatic stuff. trust me i know how you feel about automatic stuff but honestly? do you REALLY suck that mutch at manual updating and downloading?

Its like 2 years ago that installation was hard...Now it basically download the stuff for you when you try to join a game...

Thing is, this stuff is 3rd party mods, hence they cannot install them during the installation.

Sheesh, I'd hate to see you install non-installer mods for Q2/Q3/Any CNC game/Any Warcraft game/Any UT game/HL2/Any BF game then.

Besides, that was years ago, now all you have to do is start up the Spring lobby (or spring downloader if you prefer that one), and JOIN a game. The integrated p2p system will autodownload any required mods/maps.

It's so simple even your pet squirrel could do it!

Well it will do because the lead designer of TA created Supcom. Most of the ideas in supreme commander came from TA:Spring. Its a pitty Supcom didnt use terrain deformation like TS:Spring does though and Supcoms low unit limit is pretty gay too. TA:Spring is a much better game than any of the Supcom games IMO, and its free.

Supcom's unit limit is at 1000? That's higher than any RTS i know of? (I got a mod to get it up to 2000 per player ^ ^, but again, a mod) What is the limit for TA?

Plays very nicely on Linux too, using Xubuntu 9.10.

I did like a lot from 1st Total Annihilation that I played when it was new, this Spring engine takes it to new level and I was really surprised that I could play it with this free OS that I decided to test.

I would have prefered supcom if it was more like this too. TA Spring is a much better game than any of the Supcom games IMO. TA Spring invented the tactical zoom and Supcom copied pretty much everything about TA Spring and then added limitations. There are no limits in TA Spring.
