  • qualifies as CLASSY!!!!!! Unlike all the sleeze of today. +++

  • The Go Gos were new music at the time and so very sweet!

  • belinda -- i LOVE how she dances

  • Belinda was hot and the 80s were the best.

  • These gals could beat the runaways to DEATH. Still not as good as the Bangles though.

  • Belinda was an all american cutie pie. And I do agree that she was a little thick in her younger days but when she went solo and slightly aged she blossomed into a ravishingly beautiful woman and still looks great to this day. Hey I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers.

  • Belinda looks chubby.

  • Music died can we really get it back?

  • our lips are sync. disappointing but sync was the 80's.

  • Go Go's did alot of coke

    and

    rode alot of pole

    way to go, girls.

  • Lip sync... its a shame.

  • belinda looks like the little angel on a valentines card!!! love her!!!

  • 口パクきたこれ

  • I was so hot for Belinda and Jane. I miss those days.

  • .....Alex the Seal!!! A friend of mine misquoted the lyrics! lol

  • The name of the song shoud be "OUR LIPS ARE SYNCHED !"

  • Turns out--those chicks were tanked!

  • I saw these girls years ago in Cleveland Ohio at "The flats" (a string of bars) by the river. They were fantastic. Belinda was hot. In fact... the whole damn band was hot in person/concert.

  • I like belinda's moves

  • 1:28 to 1:43 best part of song

  • our lips are syncing...

  • @geojorge1369 duh...musicians lip sync quite often so they can dance and give a good show as well. It isn't always entire lip syncing...but they are jumping up and down and bouncing around...why do I even bother? lol.....just duh...quit whining.

  • Back then tv shows refused to let the bands play live.

  • @takerdust the video of the UK Tube appearence was played live. They had to play live unless they were not allowed on. I recall a few bands asking to mime to backing tracks and getting knocked back.

  • That "Count Down" font reflects the popularity of Pac-Man at the time. :)

  • @pannoni1 Actually that font predates PacMan.

  • @highlands LOL. Too right.

  • lisa where are you I miss these days ----MISS YOU MORE

  • Live? hehehe

  • Really a very under-rated band

  • omg jane wielden looks awesome. i think i'm gonna look like her for school tomorrow (was having trouble coming up with a look)

  • Belinda looking yummy here.

  • Coke heads ROCK!!

  • Excellent stuff, can you spot the giant yetii at around 45 seconds, Yes it exists!

  • Great memories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good Times! Fast Cars! Wild Times! lol lol

  • 6.00pm every sunday , loved countdown on channel 2.

  • jeaslous games people play..WOW..I HAVE LOVED GoGo's for a long time...25ish.yrs. shh no age hmmm Our Lips Are Sealed...

  • Wow, I can't believe this song is already 29 years old! Where has the time gone?

  • Way more better than the Duff sisters.

    :)

  • @0:51 bottom right corner of screen, la la la then BAM!!!! she snaps that move

  • *sigh* this was when people could actually sing without the use of auto tune. These girls were amazing!

  • Jane was so beautifull

  • Could be Clout. They were an instrument playing all girl band from South Africa who had a hit with Substitute.

  • Sorry Belinda, I have told only one other women that she is the most beautiful woman i have ever seen. But it wasn't true. You are simply perfect to me and you are the benchmark or for every woman i have ever met in my life. a tough act to follow for them darling. Woooh wiii!!!

  • @viera4 ditto! what a stunna!

  • Countdown was famous for that - the best one for me was when Human League were "live" and the audience were screaming and grabbing, and Phil Oakey stopped "singing"and just started laughing, but the vocal continued. Much lower electricity bills too for our national broadcaster if the instruments weren't plugged in I'm sure - my 6 cents a day being put to good use.

  • The first all-girl group that made it big playing their own instruments. YOU GO GIRLS! ! !

  • @tjrxk7 except not in this video lolz.

  • no there was a an all girl group in the 70's i have just forgotten there name.. also Bannana rama were an all girl group and they were big before the Go Go's

  • *their... and they were the Runaways

  • Sister Sledge...(Fire and We Are Family were a couple of there hits in the 70's)

  • @Munyuck Nope...Bannana Rama was after the gogos.

  • @Munyuck I said "PLAYING THEIR OWN INSTRUMENTS".....Bannana rama did alot of jumping but what instruments did they play???

  • @Munyuck might have been The Waitresses who sang I Know What Boys Like and Christmas Wrapping.

  • Belinda invented the "chubby cute" look

  • If that qualifies as "chubster" then I'd take chubster any day of the week.

  • totally

  • @highlands yeah bands back then didn't play live....the studio's didn't want to have to pay them....bastards...they are so much better live...not quite so poppy...they rock it out!

  • I almost forget the music, but the last days I listen a cover and I believe "That music remind me the 80's", and It's true, 80's rules!

  • Valentine drives that bass and they pretty much ignore her.

  • 1:30 to 1:40 is the best part of the video

  • i love you belinda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How can you not smile when listening to this song.

  • Jane Wiedlin is the cutest thing.

GREAT tune...cool memories from the early 80s.

  • I always wanted to bang the drummer

  • Excellent pun!! :))

  • i wanted to bang all of them lol....mostly jane wieldlin.

  • @ManPigApe

My friend, I think SHE would be the one doing the banging..........not that there's anything wrong with that.

  • @ManPigApe You could if you were a woman.

  • I LOVE YOU FOREVER!!!

  • Hi! Thanks for uploading this great video! The Go Go's is my favorite girl band of all time. I'll never forget the photo on the cover of their album showing them on waterskis.

  • i used to think they were saying "

    "honest i feel"

  • Written by Jane Wiedlin and Terry Hall. One of many reasons why Jane's my favorite Go-Go.

  • i hate getting old! this was yesterday!!

  • Welcome to the club.

  • this is like the ultimate teen song - all about gossiping each other in high school..

  • This and we got the beat are my two favs from theme such a cool laid back sound dont get that much these days Darella you have some devoted fans on your channel I think "pay no mind to what they say" is good advice!

  • goshhh memoriesss

i use to think of this song for confidence

"pay no mind to what they say, doesn't matter anyway"

  • ha ha ha they forgot to plug there instruments in, Countdown was the best mime show on Aussie TV ...thanks Molly.

The Devo clips are the funniest.

  • im an ass!!

    BC looks a little chubster!!!

  • @karlmarx71 there's no looking like....she WAS a chubster...she even jokes about her issue with weight...

  • but for all the good folks out there who may be curious as to the answer i believe to be extremely accurate ,,,,,on day at the Tropicana motel on Santa Monica blvd in west hollywood,,,there was a party going on at the pool area,,,,and out came these girls with guitars and my friend johnny nation of the Bag's anounced they were going to play a few song's......they played 3 song;s,

,,,,one twice....people really didnt care,,,cause they were girls..

    .the rest is history.

  • Man this rocks...for all you who don't get it, well that is just fine. You were not there but trust us....it was a great time.

  • funky!!! i love the back round! SWEEEET!!!

  • they ruled the 80s.i live in hollywood. i got 2 meet belinda nice lady i told how much i loved the go gos,she singed my alumb

  • This is a really nice song , I am doing this song for airband! :D

  • Back then it was common for them to lip sync on TV. TV had crappy speakers, stereo TV was not common till the late 80's and to allow them to do a live performance would have yielded a very low quality output to the viewers. So it was very common to have them "perform" the song, but for the audio of the actual album/CD to be broadcast. Give the viewers a nice show...

  • That's not exactly why they would avoid live performance. Lip syncing to a song is not the same as a live performance from a rights/permissions point of view. And if they actually performed on the show, the producers would have to pay performance fees and possibly additional Union fees to the stage hands for having to work a live performance.

But whatever. This is great. One of my fave songs ever.

  • i live in hollywood. i got 2 meet belinda, nice lady, i told her how much i love this song, she singed my pic

  • Belinda and the bass player are more beautiful at this 2000s... how can it beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

  • They laid off the drugs??? LOL

  • a classic=)

  • Man, Belinda was so cute.. and she thought she was fat. She's perfectly adorable. Jane's voice is lovely, too. Fun, energetic performance.. they were pretty good in concert, too. I prefer the Fun Boy Three version, personally, but this is good!

  • This song is one of my faves. The entire Beauty and The Beat album was hot!

  • belinda was hot!

  • That sucks ...such a nice set and forced or agreed tolip-synch !

  • Yeah, that's the first thing I noticed. A supposedly "live" performance, and it's obviously just a lip-synch to the studio version of the song. LAME! :-(

  • Comment removed

  • @milesco...we're the same age....EVERYTHING was lipsync'd back then....no need to be an ass

  • Hey, I'm not being an ass -- I love the Go-Go's and this is my favorite Go-Go's song. I'm just saying that going in front of an audience and dancing and shimmying energetically and pretending to perform a song "live" when it's painfully obvious that they're just mouthing the words and pretending to play their instuments is lame. The fact that everybody did it back then -- and yes, it's true, everybody did -- doesn't make it any less lame. Sorry.

  • The finest song they ever did, beautifully sung by Belinda, with Jane doing the bridge. Of course its really Jane's song, inspired by a boyfriend's letter. MTVs Behind The Music even has some of Jane's vocals from a tape recorder when she was literally creating the song. A real classic, capturing the Go-Go's at their best. Don't miss Jane's Rush Hour video. She is absolutely scrumptious in that. And MTV's video of this song captures Belinda at her best -- beautiful and fun in the fountain!

  • ACTUALLY, the song was co-written by Jane and Terry Hall (Specials & Fun Boy 3) vocalist, allegedly they were having a bit of a fling whilst on tour together in the UK. Check out Terry's version with Fun Boy 3, it's a lot darker but still great.

  • Yeah, it definitely IS their best song. Great tune. Too bad this "live" performance is just a lip-synch, though.

  • Sorry to burst your bubble....but this was so NOT the first song they ever did...Fun with Ropes, Living at the Cantebury, We Got the Beat, Screaming, Fashion Seekers....those were the first songs they did....WGTB was the first song to hit radio...

  • okay you know so much......tell me where and how many songs they did the first time they ever played together...i'll give u a clue,,,,it wasnt a concert...or show im talking about..where did they first play for a bunch of people,,,and how many song's did they do. let see how much u really know.

  • Settle the hell down Chucky...I never said I know everything. I don't know where they first played together but they did 11/2 songs...Don't try and get all high and mighty....makes you look like a punk assed bitch

  • i am a punk ass bitch.when i see u have written a whole bunch of coments here telling people whats what first.....and as for ur impolite response to my tongue in cheek question to you...u will never know the answer now....and keeponwith ur telling other's how smart u r...cause it;s always those who think they know the most..when they really know the least...i only know i what i know having been their friend,, im guessing b4 ur mom had and her accident.

  • [fab:song] it's why they were all virgins... ~ their lips were sealed

[just an old joke form the 80's] much:respect

  • worst....joke....ever

  • Ha, her hairdo seems to be reflecting Olivia Newton-John's "Let's Get Physical", which came out around that time.

  • Belinda looks even hotter today at 50.

  • From my perspective, THE best band of the 1980's.

Their music and their looks were great. I've seen them three times in St. Louis within the last year - and they're STILL wonderful. They really 'defined' the decade.

  • the Bangles came in at 2nd.

  • i adore them.

  • Our lips are synced.

  • Yeah, guests on these kinds of shows were asked to lip sync. It's not like they can't play on their own.

  • Heh yea, "live in the studio"

  • Belnda looked so Madonna

  • Esencia de los 80s. De lo mejor con ALPHAVILLE, THE CARS, BILLY IDOL SANDRA.... me dan ganas de salir a la calle y ponerme a bailar como un loco, esto es musica!!!! GREAT

  • Always fun to discover old clips of the girls. Too bad this is NOT live....

  • I meant LIVE as in 'appearing in person'.

  • he means Live as in Not Dead.

  • perfect pop..absolutely perfect

  • very underated bass player!

  • They're so adorable.

  • Especially Belinda with that cute hair! What a gorgeous gal...

  • Love the song but it's not a live proformance. At least the audio track is'nt.

  • Go-go's BEST SONG!!!

  • top song, sublime bassline that carries it along. excellent lyrical song... and all that crumpet on one stage! cor.

  • like the song it rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome.hilary ad haylie duff sing this song now.both versions are good [:

  • Amazing AMAZING song

  • I was 12 then, damn the girls look hot and Belinda too !

  • god shes got the cutest nose ever belinda!

    best version of this

  • Belinda 4 ever !

  • I've admired Belinda many years (LOL).

Watching Jane jump up and down makes me tired.

  • 80's New Wave

  • I loved Belinda when I was like 12. She

is still so beautiful and talented.

  • what???????????

Do You prefer those plastic girls? These ones made their own songs, all girls, all girl power! Who cares about today's phony plastic girls????

  • i think it's just cuz i heard that one first. like i heard bon jovi's you give love a bad name and i heard atreyu's version and i didn't like it. it really just depends on which one you heard first.

    no offense.

  • That's because you're slow. The Go-Go's are lightyears ahead of any of these crappy girl bands nowadays.

  • I agree completely. The Go-Go's were - and still are - so much fun...even for women now entering their fifties (!)

I remember when 'Beauty and the Beat' came out in late 1981. I was a sophomore in college; to me it was the equivalent to someone listening to 'Meet The Beatles' in 1964 when the Beatles invaded America....the record was that good!

  • c'mon now, "live"? can you say "overdub" ?! this sounds just like the studio cut. catchy little song though

  • Okay, okay. By 'live' I meant 'appearing in person'

  • Also I wanted to add that when I look at this video, I can understand why when I was a kid I thought Belinda Carlilse was so pretty.

  • man, her and punky brewster really stole my heart.

  • Check out how Kathy Valentine and Jane Wiedlin look these days -jawdroppingly good.

Not that I know her, but I've always thought Belinda is rather stupid.

  • To me - this is HEAVEN. I wish I had been there, dancing.

  • Great video! Too bad it's lipsync!

  • I love The Go-Go's!

  • yay i loved it!!
