  • I love how this clip includes such sinister sounding music.

As if there is something disturbing about the views of these thoughtful (not to mention, cheerful) individuals.

  • Will Provine accepts life and existence for what it is. He is so honest with himself and others. I respect him a lot.

  • What an insult his being is Provine !

  • @exchangeisno Yet the atheism outlined by Dr. Provine cannot pass judgement on genocide. He claims that ethics have no foundation, argues that morality is meaningless, emotions are meaningless, and reason is just genetic and environmental programming. There is no meaning, no good, no evil.

If that is the ultimate truth of atheism, as Dr. Provine believes, then atheism can do nothing in the face of genocide; it cannot pass judgment as ethics are an illusion, they don't really exist.

  • @Satarack You're exactly right. Morality must boil down to opinion, and the morality of genocide becomes subjective.

  • why does ben stein sound like he is retarded?

  • Athiest suck of that there can be no doubt. Religion helps millions of people so does science but science has gone off the deep end with the assurtion that macro is real when there is no proof.

  • @glendaweil I rely on neither religion or science. Just me and the meaning I've created for myself. :)

  • @MrMiriland How very humanistic of you so you are your own god good one hows that workin for ya.

  • @glendaweil No, you misunderstand. I don't accept the concept of god since there is lacking evidence. I don't think a god could possibly exist.

So I am definitely not my own god. My reality is the day that i awake to every morning, My friends, family and passion for art. And that is working just perfect for me.

  • @glendaweil

Macro is real? If you mean macro evolution let me stop you right there. Macroevolution is a straw man invented by religious people to attack evolution with a non-argument.

  • @SSTTEEAALLTTHH No you have it backwards press any of you macroevotards and its well micro mcro ar thsame oh golly gee it just has to be true we got all this micro happening it just has to lead to macro no it does not.

  • @glendaweil

If you care to retype that comment in understandable English, preferably with punctuation, I might be bothered to address whatever it is your claiming.

  • @SSTTEEAALLTTHH Kiss my A you know what I said or are you to stupid to read.

  • @glendaweil

The problem rather seems to be you are too (yes, that's with 2 o's, not one) stupid to spell or use proper grammar.

  • 4:20 Perfect Answer ! If there were more people like this the world it will be a smarter and more brighter world.

    "Correction"

  • 4:40 Perfect Answer ! If there were more people like this the world it will be a smarter and more brighter world.

  • @exchangeisno I do agree that much of the so-called "Abrahamic Religions" of Orthodox Judaism, Orthodox Islam and Heterodox Christianity are by no means a great idea for an absolute foundation for morality and ethics. It is a sad reality of the religious legalism and fanaticism of these religions, which have nothing more to offer, in terms of good morality and ethics, than naturalism and nihilism do.

  • Comment removed

  • @exchangeisno Exactly. People think atheistic evolution is so awful but the alternative (Abrahamic religion) is no better.

  • whats disturbing about Provine's belief's? ben stein is a muppet.

  • You ask why scientists (only few anyway) reject god? It is easy to answer: Because there is no evidence for this hypothesis at all. So provide this evidence or shut the hell up with your silly god!

  • @atheistfromaustria Yea you can't prove love with science I guess by your standards it does not exist either how very sad.

  • @glendaweil of course love exists. Love is psychology and biochemistry. Maybe an inconvenient approach but that is the truth. Ask your loving god about Auschwitz where he did nothing except watching or the biblical genocides he committed for example...

  • Ah I'm not alone in what I think.

  • Love you Will, the only honest atheist.

  • Rodolfo Llinas already proved that free will is neurological phenomenon.

  • The view of these guys is just so sad, my heart brakes for them.

  • @stephjh2006

Wow, you probably have no idea how arrogant and self-centered that sounded, do you?

  • Why is this vilifying this Provine guy? He is absolutely right.

  • @uiruu Well not exactly. Evolution is indeed right, but this bs he is spewing about evolution meaning that there is no purpose or ultimate foundation to ethics or meaning for life is purely philosophic speculation. There is nothing in evolution -or for that matter in science- that says anything about this one way or the other. (though it can be suggested that evolution may be teleologically driven -ie like Chardin's "Omega Point" concept)

  • @JohananRaatz Well, yeah, but I meant in the "Evolution" thing, which as you said was correct. I know the specifics of what he's saying is wrong, dead wrong, but evolution is absolutely right. Perhaps I phrased my last comment wrong...

  • @JohananRaatz I tend to take the position that no scientific theory can make statements about ultimate meaning or purpose, as scientific theories are necessarily incomplete and approximate. No matter how much we know, there is so much that we still do not know, so an ultimate purpose or supreme being cannot be excluded as impossible.

  • @ClamCrunchy Well ok, yes there are some things -foundational things, that are not at all empirical. To get a complete picture of them we need something consistent with science that will merge the gap between empirical and phenomenal -that way we can mesh physics neatly with metaphysics.

All that said, as it turns out quantum gravity due to background independence, must construct space time and energy (and all other physical units) from something more fundamental than the physical!

  • Amazing. I hope he defies the odds of nature and lives a very very long life.

  • Well, that's because THERE..IS..NO..EVIDENCE..FOR..DESIGN..WHAT-SO-EVER!!

  • @jerico641 - That should be an epic internet meme

THERE... IS... NO... EVIDENCE... FOR... DESIGN... WHAT-SO-EVER!!!!

  • @ChurchOfArceus

Yeah, and we should tattoo it on Ben Stein's forehead one night while he's asleep lol.

  • @jerico641 - He'll probably say it's an atheist evolutionist conspiracy. Which it's not, it's just for the lulz.

  • @ChurchOfArceus

I'm sure he would; after all, he once said "Darwinism leads to Social Darwinism", so anything he would say wouldn't surprise me. It would make me sad, but it wouldn't surprise me.

  • Will Provine should read another atheist, Albert Camus' and he might find that his decision to shoot him self in the head if his tumor came back was perhaps one of the most powerful arguments FOR freewill.

  • @Wretchedvideos Crocoduck

  • This guy is fucking awesome!!!

  • How is free will consistent with an all-knowing God who created you to do exactly the things he has known you would do before you even existed? If you deviate from what he knows, then he's not all-knowing, because you've surprised him, and he didn't know what you were going to do after all. But if you can't act despite what God knows, then in essence you're just an actor following a script.

  • Was it Illegal in Tennessee because of the Scopes Trials in July of 1925?

  • bwaha stein sounds so depressed! lmao

  • Why do scientists renounce God? Because he doesn't (nor has he ever) exist. He's an imaginary story, a figment of some bizarre men looking for an answer. He doesn't exist, never was, never will be.

  • @Relax0802 I agree, even though the thumbs down rating seems to indicate that it's an unpopular stance. Religion inspired 9/11, religion is what wars are fought over. The bible advocates stoning children, and raping women; People just pick and choose verses from it to justify their insane actions. The major thing to fear in this world, is holy jihad. It's ridiculous space god belief, and it's utterly bullshit and is poisonous for humanity.

  • It's just sick and SAD.

  • @geisler78 Keep this up. It's good to be able to post this in debates. Thanks.
