I guess you've never heard of bisexuality. As well, it's possible for someone who's had feelings for the opposite sex their whole lives, really, to develop feelings for someone of the same sex (this happened to my mum), but they are not technically gay because gay, at least by basic definition, means one only has the ability to be romantically attracted to the same gender.

Therefore, supporting gay marriage is limited in a literal sense, but supporting same-sex marriage is not.

My interpretation of this is: Biden (and I assume Obama) support marriage of two consenting adults, but don't believe there should be a differentiation between straight and gay marriage. It's limiting becauase not everyone who wants to marry the same gender is gay and vice versa.
