  • is this a professional band?

  • two directors with two different conducting styles....fail

  • I'm not an acoustician. This was a great concept, and maybe with proper mike placement or something, it could have challenged Barenboim/Solti. Still, "A" for effort

  • its toooo fast

  • Yer i agree its to fast and doesent sound the same

  • What a delight to hear one of my favorite pieces of music extended to include other music makers. I say Bravo to the players and also to Hallwaypro for sharing. Thanks

  • it was "raw" but it was simply beautiful. in tune (for the most part), rhythmic and to see young people of so many diverse backgrounds contributing to something so beautiful...it is simply breathtaking. thank you very much for uploading this.

  • This is... in a word... painful.

  • My band sightread better than this. We're playing it this year, and I have first part clarinet and the whole band sounded better than this.

  • Elgar would turn in his grave if he heard this shambles

  • omigash. my mistake. i on my first comment. i mean that no choir in the original score for enigma variations.

  • and also there is no piano part in this piece.

  • i agree with newbiguy. no orchestra in the original score. i was shocked that there are two conductors. whow! there must be one conductor. an orchestra conductor can also conduct the choir too for an orchestra and choral piece.

  • At the time given for rehearsal and the space provided...having two conductors was unavoidable.

  • for me, this is not a good excuse. it is the job of the conductor to guide the group of musicians.

  • There is no choral in this work. It's just for orchestra.

There is however a stunning choral arrangement made of this work, named "lux eterna".

I agree, it's much too fast.

But even then, the theme is so beatiful, whatever you make of it, it keeps its beauty.

By the way, recognise the theme of Beethoven's pathetique? Elgar used it because of his dedication to his friend Jaeger. In German jaeger means hunter, that's why the piece is called Nimrod (which is the name the mythical hunter).

  • haha we are playing this too :D its absolutely stunning...

  • Is this the choral version included?

  • Is it me or are they playing it too fast here?

  • agreed, it should be a much slower tempo.

  • we're playing this in full orchestra right now, it's a LOVELY piece
