I hate people who knock on Illia. I'm certain that even after a large part of her died with Sergei, she saw something in Illia and knew she could love again. And I'm certain that Sergei must smile everytime he looks down on her, knowing she's happy and greatful to Illia for what he has done for Katia and his daughter Daria.
I remember watching this on TV and just shrieking at the TV somewhere between 2:15 and 2:22 because I was so happy to see Katia in love in again and doing that pairs spiral again after four sad years. Magnificent.

My god, this is sublime but it's so jolting when they each do their separate elements like he jumps alone or she spins alone. I hope they incorporate more "pairs" moves in addition to the ice dancing components, this would be the ultimate!

I think that her relationship with Ilia is based on sexual attraction rather than affection. She was too tired of the mourning and loneliness. To me he looks a tough and selfish type and I really doubt that they are especially happy.
I used to think the same thing. It was really tough for me to get over the fact that she had replaced Sergei. But his death was a long time ago and if she finds someone she likes, she has every right to persue a relationship.
G&G were extravordinarily rare.The first time I saw her skate with Ilia on SOI, there was Wow chemistry. I also think the choreography is a story of Katia's evolution from skating alone with the absent partner of her life, and Ilia joining her and a gentle evolution of their closeness. This is absolute perfection about Katia's journey from Sergei to coping alone to finding Ilia. Magnificent choreography and impeccable performance.
I just can't forget Sergei... it has been 12 years and still...... the chemistry, the magic, and the romance that they shared(read the book) cannot be compared. I'm happy for Katia because I wouldn't want her to be alone, but it's not the same......as it was with Sergei

What a beautiful and heart-felt performance. Ilia is so tender and protective towards Katya. One shouldn't be feeling sad for Katya but happy for her. She lost one great man to find another. Many women cannot find one soulmate in their life, and Katya found two. And both of her marriages are very happy ones.
I will be a G&G fan forever, they were magical. I saw this performance and was blown away by the chemistry between Katia and Illia and what a great pair they made. The choreography from beginning to end tell the story of Katia's loss and reluctantly moving on. Absolutely a brilliant piece. I love Katia and Illia together but G&G will always take my breath away.

I love this number and I think that Ilia is a wonderful man...but.... I'm a little bit disappointed about this, becouse, when Sergei passed away, katia said she couldn't even think about skating with another partner and being touched by someone else on the ice....that she never wanted to skate in pairs again, without Sergei.... I know it's a stupid romantic idea, but I can't help thinking this way....

I have the exact opposite reaction. I think it's wonderful that Katia has found so much happiness with a great guy. This is one of my all time favorite routines, beautifully choreographed and skated and I think Katia is positively glowing.

as brave as katia is, I'm overwhelmed by the way she use to live without her Sergei.. Thanks God for giving her another chapter to involved with skating world. She is very deserving all of the joyous day she had with Sergei...but still as what Siddharta Gautama said"Life is full of suffering", I doubt it or Katia cause she had a very wonderful life with her very nice family and friends. I was a big G&G fan too, but I think Ekaterina and Ilia fit together very well. You can see the real love between them, they have a very nice chemistry on the ice. Yes, Sergei was Sergei, but life must go on, just as the show, and it would be shame to leave Katia alone so young - on and off the ice. I keep my fingers crossed for them. Lovely :)
What an exquisite performance. Katia is easily the most consistant skater I've ever watched, so sure of herself, never even a bobble, beautiful edges and lines. And Ilia was very good, too, considering pairs is not his area of expertise. Thanks for sharing :-)
It gets on my nerves also when people compare Illia to Sergei. I have been a G&G all my life but they are two different people. I highly doubt Sergei would like people denouncing Illia when he is actually a very talented skater. Although I believe the magic G&G shared when skating will never show again, Illia and Ekaterina do well together none the less. It still makes me sad knowing Ekaterina is not skating with Sergei but I know he must be glad she found love again.
Another thing I think we don't realize is how hard that footwork is together! Sometimes we think lifts are the hardest part of pairs but this is certainly not the case..Ilia did a wonderful job of keeping up with Katia's speed!

Um, maybe she don't look into it cause they weren't together then. Actually I believe this is the first or second time they skated as a pair. I guess it's when sparks flew all over. Can't understand it, though. He is SO NOT even cute!!!
I love love loveeee this program. It's so romantic!! Just to add to the conversation, G&K will never be anywhere near the technical beauty that G&G was for a simple reason: Ilia isn't a pairs skater. Of course G&K won't seem nearly as good as G&G. What do you expect when they were trained differently (singles v pairs)?
Also to add when Katia went up for a lift with Sergei she seemed more confident and safe in his arms. Also you saw their love shining through it all and that is what made them so great. While i am very happy that Katia found a new love. When it comes to G&G vs G&K, G&G was simply the greatest pair in Figure Skating History. Plus Sergei was much more Handsome than Ilia:-)
I don't consider this a pairs program - this is more what is I believe called adagio - the lifts are dance lifts... - and for a single's skater, I think Ilia does a great job. As for handsomeness, they are BOTH very handsome!!! (Lucky girl - also so beautiful. You might want to watch the other video about the making f this program with commentary by Sandra Bezic
i think they skated great but come on, you cannot compare Ilia to Sergei, they were two different skaters. G&G skated with more grace and poise, plus G&G skated as one. Technically and artistically G&K are inferior to G&G

I was a big G&G fan too, but I think Ekaterina and Ilia fit together very well. You can see the real love between them, they have a very nice chemistry on the ice. Yes, Sergei was Sergei, but life must go on, just as the show, and it would be shame to leave Katia alone so young - on and off the ice. I keep my fingers crossed for them. Lovely :)

What an exquisite performance. Katia is easily the most consistant skater I've ever watched, so sure of herself, never even a bobble, beautiful edges and lines. And Ilia was very good, too, considering pairs is not his area of expertise. Thanks for sharing :-)

It gets on my nerves also when people compare Illia to Sergei. I have been a G&G all my life but they are two different people. I highly doubt Sergei would like people denouncing Illia when he is actually a very talented skater. Although I believe the magic G&G shared when skating will never show again, Illia and Ekaterina do well together none the less. It still makes me sad knowing Ekaterina is not skating with Sergei but I know he must be glad she found love again.

Another thing I think we don't realize is how hard that footwork is together! Sometimes we think lifts are the hardest part of pairs but this is certainly not the case..Ilia did a wonderful job of keeping up with Katia's speed!

Um, maybe she don't look into it cause they weren't together then. Actually I believe this is the first or second time they skated as a pair. I guess it's when sparks flew all over. Can't understand it, though. He is SO NOT even cute!!!

I love love loveeee this program. It's so romantic!! Just to add to the conversation, G&K will never be anywhere near the technical beauty that G&G was for a simple reason: Ilia isn't a pairs skater. Of course G&K won't seem nearly as good as G&G. What do you expect when they were trained differently (singles v pairs)?

Also to add when Katia went up for a lift with Sergei she seemed more confident and safe in his arms. Also you saw their love shining through it all and that is what made them so great. While i am very happy that Katia found a new love. When it comes to G&G vs G&K, G&G was simply the greatest pair in Figure Skating History. Plus Sergei was much more Handsome than Ilia:-)

I don't consider this a pairs program - this is more what is I believe called adagio - the lifts are dance lifts... - and for a single's skater, I think Ilia does a great job. As for handsomeness, they are BOTH very handsome!!! (Lucky girl - also so beautiful. You might want to watch the other video about the making f this program with commentary by Sandra Bezic

i think they skated great but come on, you cannot compare Ilia to Sergei, they were two different skaters. G&G skated with more grace and poise, plus G&G skated as one. Technically and artistically G&K are inferior to G&G

Yes, its brilliant! and of course I know it's not the same figure that dancing....but Gwendall and Marina...are speciall for me..pity is here in Spain, they don't put a lot of ice skating on tv :-(

Thank you for your comments -- yes, that is who did the music for this. I also love Gwendal and MArina, but of course they are ice-dancers. For a single skater and a former pairs skater, I think this piece is really kind of incredible!
