I think there is a reason this engine is fucked. Tecumseh LEV's like this one are famous for cylinder wall scoring due to inadequate oiling of the cylinder. I had one that died this way, and I've heard of others. Their old engines were great, but the LEV's were pieces of shit, they made them right up until the time the whole company bit the dust in the Tom Gores / Platinum Equity fiasco.

you know, to all tecumseh lovers, these engines have a shty version of an oil pump, its driven on the cam and the oil housing is PLASTIC, so if you don't keep up on oil changes, VERY VERY FREQUENT they will die, end of story, what happens is the pos oil pump wears out being plastic in a hot engine and the pump over time lets oil past the surface between the pump and the cam, which results in poor oil flow and dead engine, also i tore one apart, it doesn't feed oil to the rod at ALL!!!!

My tecumseh is still running strong after 2 years of hard work everyday (4 or maybe more hours a day everyday in summer!) since you keep the oil up, never over rev it and keep the filter clean it will never give up on you!

ITS A FIRST PULL STARTER EVERYTIME AND CUTS EVERYTHING NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!

i love my tecumseh!

@seelder By using a tight spring or by over-adjusting the governer. They are made to run at 3000/3600 tops, Ive seen some going in the shop running at 4800/5000 cos people think they know what they are doing so they mess around with the throtle links and spring. The mains and rod bushes wear like crazy. AND why do I think tecumseh is SOO MUCH BETTER than Briggs...they have an internal oil pump even in the small mower engines making them much longer lasting and a Steel liner no crap plated bores!

@06mourag wait so you can revv a mower? i have a tecumseh lawn mower and its standard push mower and it has the little lever that u hold down to keep it going but at the same speed the whole time.. so ur saying if i make something on the throttel like a string leading up to the bar i can revv the mower?

@seelder No, they have a self regulating throtle that keeps the rpm steady and stops it from over reving which is operated by a gear and weights inside the engine. the throtle that you can control is only a cable which has a spring at the end which controls the tension on the governer making only small changes on engine rpm. to make a mower rev you need to bypass that spring and use the cable directly on the throtle valve on the carb which is not recomended cos it can over-rev/damage the engine
