I'm sure many people have probably already said it but if you do it on the rocky side of the ramp up towards the Spiral Mountain entrance you can actually access water, and if you're skillful enough from there you can actually check out what is outside showdown town - unfortunately only as far as a couple of meters but still, better than nothing :D
