And there's no doubt that French for whatever reason was the chosen language of all the elites high class and aristocrats pretty much everywhere in the world (I'm talking 19th, early 20th century but in Lebanon it carried on for more than that even till today). All I'm saying is it has nothing to do with thinking we're more civilized.
and yes it wasn't a colony. But the introduction of french started way before in the 19th century when catholic and secular missions started opening schools institutions all over the country. While some of what you're saying is true, it's really a lot more complicated that just Arabs trying to be snobby and sophisticated. It also has to do with some of the ethnic tension that always existed and why some people chose french. but that's another story we can discuss later.....understand?

My mother emmigrated from lebanon because she was so close to death multiple times during the Civil War. She said that since the past 60 some-odd years that lebanon was an independant country......It only had 20 years of peace...... She still tears up when she hears what's goes on in the news or when she hears the national anthem of lebanon.

Firstly by taking advantage of the uneducated populations in Lebanon, specifically buying their votes and their honor and their freedom of expressing themselves. In second by adopting a method that is based on gaining the Lebanese sympathy regarding the fact that they are the ones who lost President Rafic-Hariri.
In third, by integrating many sunna populations into a very important Christian Area of Leabanon Called Zahle, which played a decisive role in the Latest Lebanese elections and where the opinion of the original inhabitants of Zahle was wiped out and outnumbered. Fourth, as monopolizers of the most effective media institutions or stations in Lebanon, off-course by their Economic abilities and bribes they were able to slander the reputation of other politicians and poison the Lebanese thoughts.
Last but not Least, my personal stand: i think that one politician in the 8th of march, the General Michel-Aoun, a former General but a current true leader that said and always supported the fact of uniting lebanon. By starting an alliance with Hezb-alla, where the only intention reflected is the preservation of the Lebanese Stability and the initiative to unite the most abundant population of Lebanon the shiites community with the Christian Community.
My Lebanese cry or objective is not to give thanks or promote the political side i support but mainly to send out a simple message to all those who still support the system of 14 march. Isn't the political period of the past 20 years an enough proof of failures and downfalls??? Shouldn't we as Lebanese start realizing the fact that when a system fails we move on and try a different one???

Although SINGING it would get annoying, we have to listen ( we can sing) and then take a 30 sec. minute of silence for the soldiers.

She said that since the past 60 some-odd years that lebanon was an independant country......It only had 20 years of peace...... Lebnan was formed when the French and the British occupied the middle east, and they split up all the countries from each other (making Lebanon seperate from Syria) What used to be called belad al sham was made up of Palestine Syria Lebanon and Jordan as one nation. What happened then is they split that up into two (one nation made up of Jordan and Palestine and one modern day Lebanon and Syria)

Lebanon was around a long time ago. it was occupied by Syria at one point in time but the Lebanese forced them out.
