Sinaed has the most beautiful voice in folk music. There is a spiritual depth and poetic sincerity in all of her work. It is the definitive antithesis of materialistic pop culture. and is alive and well within the Celtic peoples.
oh, sinead, you should NEVER, NEVER try to sing anything that luke kelly has sung before.it´s painstaking in a high degree. open ww.youtube.com/watch?v=g43HVlRga7M to understand this (you must add the third "w" because youtube doesn´t allow links) a whole universe had to come to existence so that luke has lived, and he died much too early. and then you came and thought you could do it...
@friederich66 I truly believe Luke Kelly has the greatest version of this great song, along with the Dransfields, another lovely version. This version by Sinead O:Connor, in my opinion compares to any of the mentioned & any that I have heard. This is her interpretation, different to all others & in my opinion absolute MAGIC.,she is not trying to be anyone else, just Sinead. Brilliant.
@ijmccardle well, hear that and realize what an astonishing voice REALLY is :-) ww.youtube.com/watch?v=g43HVlRga7M . add the third "w" manually because youtube won´t allow liks
devans471, agree completely, but would add a heroine to the rest of us as well.
They tried to burn her at the stake, but how sweet that time has proved her true.
Took Ned Kelly's “sean-nós” version and added the same-sex emphasis as the "nua." Check out her documentary SONG OF HEARTS DESIRE the making of the album Sean-Nós Nua.
Sinéad, thanks for making life bearable. Agape Rabdrake
I must have heard this song a million times now and I even sang it to my daughter when she was born, but this must surely be the most beautiful version I've ever heard. Well done Sinead and thank you so much...
I love this song ! I also love this womans voice it is breathtaking. The words to this song are some of the greatest that I have ever heard, pure poetry. I play this in my car very loud !
Well, I meant... I wish she made music like this now, instead of the stuff that was on her latest CD. I didn't like it at all, it was weak in comparison to her older stuff, unfortunately.
@wrongwayup: Give her time and I'm sure she'll pack a CD full up with material you love and know she's forever capable of composing; Sinéads an exordinarily versitile artist so theres always a chance of her coming out with some albums that a completely different to the last, but I like that unpredictablility. Even on her worst albums I always find a handful of songs of Sineads I love and in time I generally grow to like the rest. Love this woman.
My concert tour is fully booked out and the sales of my cd are astronomical, none left , oh well better luck next time ,I,ll let you know when i realease the next cd so you dont miss out next time around!

Sinead O' Connor is overated as a singer....Luke Kelly's version of Peggy Gordon is a million times better than this...he was untouchable as a singer, and Sinead is nowhere near.
Sinéad's version of this song is the best one I know and better than the Dubliners' version. And saying that, I'd be more a Dubliners fan than a Sinéad one.
it was either her or Jimmy Krankie ya haggis munching dress wearing bagpipe strangling ugly fooking breed of neandrathal och aye da noooooooooo piece of british shit
The lyrics are from a Scottish song which is also known as 'Maggie Gordon' but the original tune was replaced with an English melody, 'Banks of the Sweet Primroses'. It was made popular by The Dubliners which is why everyone thinks it's Irish. But Sinead is awesome. And so are The Dubliners...
I really, really wish this was a capella.

It's actually an Irish song. How dare you criticize Sinéad. This version is the best I've ever heard.
